In Sullenberger’s case, he upheld his duty as a pilot to ensure the safety of passengers above all else. His decision to land on the Hudson wasn’t motivated by the end result (the teleological approach) but by his adherence to moral duties such as safeguarding lives, following aviation protocols, and acting with integrity regardless of personal danger. Deontologists believe in actions being inherently right or wrong, irrespective of their consequences. Sully’s commitment to his duty, despite the unknown risks, aligns with this view.
