Week 4 Journal

Communication Skills Test

Good communication is an essential tool in the 21st century. Employers across the United States consistently rate communication as one of the top priorities for securing and retaining employment. Part of the career counselor’s role is assisting clients in this area. Communication is multifaceted, in that it incorporates writing, speaking, non-verbal skills (i.e., body language and facial expression), and listening. How we communicate is inextricably linked to our level of emotional intelligence. In order for clients to be adequately prepared to seek employment and meet other career-related goals, they must have an understanding of their communication strengths and weaknesses.

Take the Communications Skills Test (see instructions under required readings for this week). After taking the test, address the following questions in your journal submission:

·  What where your scores?

My scores were exceptionally high at a  (91)

·  Did your scores align with how you perceive your communication skills?

Yes! They did.

·  Was the feedback received after taking the test helpful? Why or why not?

They feedback that I received after taking the test was quite helpful because it showed me where I was located on the level of communication with others

·  Can you think of a specific situation when utilizing this tool or the extended version with a client would be beneficial?

Maybe if a client is having relationship difficulties or not able to communicate with others or misunderstanding what others are trying to relay to them.

·  How might this tool help clients meet their career needs?

It would show them where they needed help in their communication with others

Your journal should be a 700- to 1050-words (2- to 3-pages) in length,

Health Care Quality DB 5

Health Care Quality DB 5

(Health Care Quality DB 5)

Title: Enhancing Health Care Quality through Performance Improvement Initiatives

In the realm of health care, ensuring and continuously improving the quality of services is paramount. Performance improvement initiatives play a pivotal role in achieving this objective. One key aspect of health care quality involves meeting performance benchmarks mandated by local, state, or federal health care laws or policies.

Firstly, identifying the current benchmark for the organization and understanding the numeric score for underperformance is crucial. This sets the foundation for recognizing how the benchmark shortfall affects the quality of care and organizational operations. It is imperative to analyze the potential repercussions of not making any changes, emphasizing the significance of meeting established standards.

Ethical and evidence-based strategies form the backbone of any performance improvement initiative. Delving into the evidence-based literature to explore potential strategies for the targeted benchmark is essential. These strategies should not only ensure improved performance but also compliance with health care laws and policies. Moreover, applying these strategies in a professional practice setting requires ethical considerations and cultural inclusivity to guarantee equitable care delivery.

Environmental factors, including regulatory considerations and organizational resources, must be thoroughly analyzed. This involves understanding how regulations might impact the recommended strategies and evaluating the practicality of the proposed policy and guidelines within existing organizational constraints.

Engaging colleagues, stakeholders, or stakeholder groups in the development and implementation process is vital. Clearly identifying the importance of their involvement, ensuring guidelines are comprehensible, and illustrating the potential benefits of collaboration contribute to better organizational policies and smoother implementation.

In conclusion, a well-crafted policy proposal, supported by evidence-based strategies, ethical considerations, and collaborative efforts, can significantly enhance health care quality. The effective communication of these proposals is essential for garnering support, and adherence to professional writing standards ensures clarity and credibility in conveying the message.

(Health Care Quality DB 5)

At this point, you should be able to, at a scholarly level, be  able to respond to these questions based on learning and materials from  this course since it began.  Therefore, no reference is required.   However, evidence of understanding quality in health care must be evident in your answers. Respond thoughtfully to the following questions:

1. How does quality in health care setting differ from quality and expectations of consumers in non-health care settings such as restaurants, clothing stores, automobile purchases, etc.

2. How is the long term care setting unique from other health care  settings (such as acute care or physician practices) when it comes to  the populations it serves and when measuring, evaluating and  continuously improving quality?

3. What will you require and expect in your own health care settings/services to believe that a facility/provider and their services are of high quality?  What are your expectations?

To receive full credit you must:

A. Provide a meaningful, thoughtful and scholarly initial  post that is supported by fact/evidence and not just opinion.

B. No reference is required.

C. Proofread and correct any grammar or spelling errors.

Disorder Case Studies 2

PCN-529 Week 6 Assignment Disorder Case Studies 2

(Disorder Case Studies 2)

Max Points: 80
Details:

Part 1: Case Studies

Identify the DSM-5 diagnostic criteria that you notice in the case studies below and explain how the client meets the criteria. Include the diagnosis that these symptoms are related to. Your response to each case study should be 50 to 75 words.

  1. Allyson is a 25-year-old who works from home. She is happy with her work-at-home job, because she prefers not to be around people. She is afraid she will say or do something that is embarrassing. She has seen a therapist who referred her to a psychiatrist who prescribed antianxiety medication. More recently, she has been taking more than prescribed and continues to increase the dose a little each week because she finds that she does not feel as good with less.
  2. Karen is a 35-year-old wife and mother whose husband has become concerned about her drinking. He has noticed that she always appears to have a drink in hand, and when he asks her about it, she says that it is ginger ale or a coke; however, he believes she is mixing vodka with those drinks. Just recently, she had a DWI, and he confronted her about her drinking, after which she promised that she would stop. However, when she did stop, he noticed that she was constantly worrying, restless, and irritable.
  3. Mary is a 25-year-old single woman who currently is in a doctoral program. Mary has developed an extreme fear of germs and she is afraid of getting sick. Mary washes her hands 10-20 times per day. There are times when she is late for an appointment due to her needing to ensure that her hands are clean. She cleans her house constantly and often does not have time to complete her studies as a result. She experiences a great deal of anxiety when she is in situations where she is not able to control the environment. Some of her family and friends have commented on her behavior, which she admits to being a bit excessive, but she also states how easy it is to get sick and how many germs are out there.

Part 2: Treatment Scenarios

Provide a 50- to 75-word response to each of the following scenarios:

Imagine that you are working with a client who has been diagnosed with an anxiety disorder. Select an anxiety disorder from the DSM-5 and discuss the approach you would you use for treating this client.

Imagine that you are working with a client who has been diagnosed with obsessive compulsive disorder. What approach would you use for treating this client?

How will you determine if a client is suffering from an anxiety or obsessive compulsive disorder, rather than a substance-induced disorder?

Include at least two scholarly references in your assignment.

While APA format is not required for the body of this assignment, solid academic writing is expected and in-text citations and references should be presented using APA documentation guidelines, which can be found in the APA Style Guide, located in the Student Success Center.

As an emerging health care leader, the senior management has requested that you independently research and explore one of the economic opportunities that may be available in your care setting. This may be offering a new service line, working to improve a service line already offered, retiring an outdated or unprofitable service line, or any other economic initiative that you believe will be of benefit to your care setting in the short and long term. One example of this is a recently launched partnership with a local bicycle sharing company. Your care setting partners with them to host healthy community events that offer free screenings for early detection of various health issues.

This helps fulfill some of your care setting’s preventive and healthy lifestyle initiatives, while also potentially driving referrals to other services provided by your care setting. You have been asked to submit your proposal in the form of a 3-page executive summary that includes your proposed economic initiative, supporting economic data, and an analysis of the proposal’s benefits for your department and for the care setting overall.

DirectionsYou have been asked to ensure that your report addresses the following. Note: The bullet points below correspond to grading criteria in the scoring guide. Be sure your work is, at minimum, addressing each of the bullets below. You may also want to read the scoring guide and the Guiding Questions: Executive Brief: Proposal of New Economic Opportunity document, linked in the Resources, to better understand the performance levels that relate to each grading criterion:Propose an economic initiative that presents an opportunity for your care setting at both the micro (departmental, neighborhood) and macro (organizational, community) levels that you believe will provide ethical and culturally equitable improvements to the quality of care.Analyze the supply and demand for your proposed economic initiative within contexts relevant to your care setting.

Explain relevant economic and environmental data that support your proposal and analysis.Communicate your economic proposal in a logically structured and concise manner, writing content clearly with correct use of grammar, punctuation, and spelling.Effectively support your proposal with relevant economic data and scholarly sources, correctly formatting citations and references using current APA style.

Health as a Human Right

Health as a Human Right

(Health as a Human Right)

Health as a human right underscores the intrinsic value of well-being and access to healthcare for every individual, irrespective of socio-economic status, race, or geographic location. Rooted in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the World Health Organization’s constitution, and various international agreements, this concept recognizes health as a fundamental aspect of a dignified life. It embraces the idea that everyone has the right to the highest attainable standard of physical and mental health.

Essential to this right is the principle of equity, demanding that health services and resources be distributed fairly. Governments bear the responsibility to create policies that ensure universal access to affordable and quality healthcare. Recognizing health as a human right also emphasizes preventive measures, addressing social determinants of health, and tackling disparities that affect vulnerable populations.

The realization of health as a human right necessitates international collaboration, domestic policy changes, and public health initiatives. Advocates argue that empowering individuals with the means to maintain their health not only fulfills a basic human entitlement but also contributes to social stability, economic development, and global well-being. In essence, health as a human right signifies a collective commitment to creating a world where everyone can lead a healthy life with dignity and without discrimination.

Article 25 of the 1948 UDHR and the Constitution of WHO are examples of positive expressions of health as a human right.

Using South University Online Library or the Internet, search for  “health as a human right, a perspective from the WHO,” put forth in the  UDHR. Conduct a research on this topic. Your research should include key  features of the decisions, investigations, and laws you analyzed during  the research.

Your research should also include answers to the following questions:

  • Analyze the purpose of Article 25 of the 1948 UDHR and the Constitution of the WHO.
  • In your opinion, do these two positive laws contradict the no-duty principle in the United States? Why or why not?
  • The term “the right to make informed health care decisions” is an  important health care right of patients that have the right to make  informed decisions about the direction of their care, including refusing  treatment. Give your views on this statement and support your answer  using relevant references.
  • Compare and contrast the terms “the right to make informed health care decisions” and “the right to health.”
  • In your opinion on life or death situations, do you think individuals should be allowed to refuse treatment? Why or why not?

After answering the above questions, read the following statement:

The Emergency Medical Treatment and Active Labor Act (EMTALA)  protects the rights of the poor and uninsured by stating that a hospital  cannot refuse emergency treatment because of the patient’s inability to  pay (patient dumping). Based on this statement, answer the following  questions:

  • Explain and analyze two key duties of hospitals under EMTALA.
  • What do you think would happen if a hospital administrator directed  an ambulance to take a patient to another hospital because the  individual is uninsured?
  • Explain what impact this act might have on private hospitals. How  does this act impact other publicly funded programs in the state?
