Suicide and euthanasia Comment

(Suicide and euthanasia Comment)

Comment1

Suicide and euthanasia are extremely sensitive topics for the majority of individuals including health care workers. According to the Christian belief, it is considered a sinful act and therefore goes against Christian beliefs. Meilaender (2013) states that “Christians have held that suicide is morally wrong because they have seen it in a contradiction of our nature as creatures, an unwillingness to receive life moment by moment from the hand of God without ever regarding it as simply “our” possession” (Meilaender, 2013). He goes on to say that our life is not something we own and that by committing suicide we are essentially playing the role of creator. We need to remember that life is a gift from God and to take one’s own life is a selfish act and disrespectful to God for the gift of life he gave to us.

Suicide and euthanasia are controversial topics. I don’t whole heartedly agree with Meilaender. I believe that if a patient has a chronic illness that is causing them to have a very poor quality of life and/or chronic pain, then that person should be allowed to decide if they want to carry on with life living that way. What a bleak existence it would be. My husband and I have had numerous discussions about this very topic. We both agree that if either one of us were extremely ill, we should find a way to put that person out of their misery. On the flip side, if a healthy person were to take their own life, then I totally agree with Meilaender and that person is selfish and not following in the footsteps of God.

Comment2

Based on Meilaender’s (2013) perspective of suicide, it is morally wrong because there is an unwillingness to receive the life given, by our creator, moment by moment.  Suicide
is not God’s will, it is the irrational desire of a man to be in control and a repercussion of sin with man acting as the creator, instead of the created.  Meilanender (2013) contends that life is not “our” possession, nor ours to take whether by suicide or euthanasia.  I appreciate his comparison of our lives to being characters in a story that God created while God gives us the freedom to act according to the nature he provided.  However, I don’t believe that it was ever God’s intent to allow us the freedom to rationally take a life by suicide.

MN502-2: Explain how theoretical frameworks influence advance, health and medicine homework help

Question description

Where Did the Theory Come From

This Assignment addresses this course outcome:

MN502-2: Explain how theoretical frameworks influence advance.

PurposeThe purpose of this Assignment is to explore how a theorist explicates his or her philosophy and thoughts behind a theoretical field. As in other fields of study, nursing has a plethora of theorists and theories. These theorists have developed their paradigm over time enriching it with research and dialogue with other theorists.

DirectionsYou are going to explore how a theorist of your choice created his or her theory. Did it develop as an acorn becoming a mighty oak over the decades? Did it arrive as a burst of light like the big bang as some believe created our universe? Was it developed from a blueprint like a spaceship where thousands of scholars worked together to create a rocket to the moon? In point of fact, how is a theory developed? This is what we are exploring.

You will pick a theorist who interests you, it does not have to be a nurse theorist. You may also choose from other disciplines such as: behavioral, leadership, business, education, technology.

You will become the theorist immersing yourself in the writings from the earliest mentioned to the most current.

As you read, look at how you (taking on the persona of the theorist) developed the theory.

In the first stage, theorizing occurs. This is where you, as the theorist, identify the concepts of what nursing is and is not. Perhaps you questioned what concepts were guiding those in nursing practice and then started to question your role. You started asking yourself, “Where am I in nursing, and where the profession is going? Is there some overarching concept that guides the professional in his or her practice?” This is where you recognize that a theory is needed.

In the second stage, syntax is developed. This is where you will define the terms. Look for changing definitions of terms. Consider, for example, Jean Watson. She starts by defining the word “caring.” Within the last ten years she has refined her terminology changing the term caring to caritas. This demonstrates a growth and maturation from decades of research she and other scholars did to produce the theory of caring.

The third stage is theory testing. Defined as the phenomena behind the theory that are exposed through research. The definitions of terms are refined. The theorists and other researchers consider whether this theory helps answer questions that arise in practice. This is where your theory is used in by a widening group of researchers. For example, graduate nursing students request the tool you developed while testing your theory.

The fourth and last stage is evaluation. This is where philosophical debate occurs as the concepts are applied through evidenced based practice in the act of providing nursing care.

Assignment DetailsFor this Assignment, you are going to write an article for a nursing journal explaining how you developed your theory through the four stages (theorizing, syntax, theory testing, and evaluation).Your paper must be 3 to 5 pages, not including the title and reference pages.

Technology And Development

Technology And Development

(Technology And Development)

Prior to beginning work on this discussion, please read the American Psychological Association (2010), Ching-Ting, Ming-Chaun, & Chin-Chung (2014), Kirkorian, Wartella, & Anderson (2008), and Paediatr Child Health (2003) required articles for the week.

For your initial post, you will describe the positive and negative influences of technology on human development during childhood (ages 3-12) or adolescence (ages 13-18).

Using the Ashford University Library, research at least one peer-reviewed article that describes the way(s) in which technology has either positively or negatively influenced physical, cognitive, and/or psychosocial development within childhood or adolescence (e.g., the effects of media violence on aggression or educational products on learning).  Describe factors which may mediate the effect(s) of technology within your selected stage (e.g., education, gender, socioeconomic status, culture, or family/parenting). Strive to find recent work, but seminal research on the topic should be considered as well.  Evaluate the unique scholarly perspectives found in your research and interpret the implications of technology on human development.  Support your perspective(s) with references from the required or peer-reviewed resources. Additionally, conclude with a consideration of relevant ethical concerns (perhaps with regard to policy decisions).

Guided Response: Review several of your colleagues’ posts and respond to at least two of your peers by 11:59 p.m. on Day 7 of the week. You are encouraged to post your required replies earlier in the week to promote more meaningful and interactive discourse in this discussion.

Do you agree or disagree with your colleague’s conclusion(s) regarding the positive and/or negative effect(s) of technology within his or her chosen developmental periods? Whether or not you agree with your colleague’s conclusion(s), describe how one of your colleague’s stated advantages may actually be a disadvantage in the chosen developmental periods or vice versa. Speculate regarding relative advantages and disadvantages in another developmental period (e.g., infancy or adulthood). Suggest mediating factors for the influence(s) of technology             that might have been overlooked by your colleague. Continue to monitor the discussion forum until 5:00 p.m. (Mountain Time) on Day 7 of the week and respond to anyone who replies to your initial post.

Carefully review the Discussion Forum Grading Rubric for the criteria that will be used to evaluate this Discussion Thread.

Impact report to senior leadership

Impact report to senior leadership

(Impact report to senior leadership)

Question description

Write a 4–6 page impact report to senior leadership that identifies a nursing-related challenge, analyzes how it affects the organization from a nursing perspective, and details the new position.

Each organization has a unique structure that impacts the behavior of the organization. In health care organizations, this impact is on the ability of the organization to deliver quality patient care. Nursing is an essential component of any health care organization, and nursing leaders must understand the role of nursing and nursing leadership within the total organization. Understanding basic organizational structure, mission, vision, philosophy, and values will better prepare nurse leaders to improve quality and patient outcomes.

By successfully completing this assessment, you will demonstrate your proficiency in the following course competencies and assessment criteria:

  • Competency 1: Identify nursing leadership priorities using a systems perspective.
    • Identify a nursing challenge and its impact from a nursing perspective.
    • Identify key leadership skills, knowledge, or abilities required for the position.
  • Competency 2: Apply systems theory and systems thinking to facilitate health care delivery and patient outcomes.
    • Explain how the nursing challenge creates a gap or conflict between the organization’s statements and practice.
    • Identify organizational factors that impact the situation using a SWOT analysis.
  • Competency 4: Evaluate how power relates to health care organizational structure, behavior, and leadership.
    • Assess how the new nurse leader position will have power and influence and impact patient outcomes.
  • Competency 5: Communicate in a manner that is consistent with the expectations of a nursing professional.
    • Write content clearly and logically, with correct use of grammar, punctuation, and mechanics.
    • Correctly format citations and references using current APA style.

PREPARATION

Use the Suggested Resources for this assessment to study systems theory, SWOT analysis, and shared governance teams, as background for an Impact Report to Senior Leadership. The report includes a SWOT analysis. The SWOT Analysis Template is linked in Required Resources.

  • Study a facility in your area and examine its Web site and any available public documents to aid you in completing this assessment. You may wish to examine an organization where you work, where you have worked in the past, or where you did your clinical work.
  • Do not name the organization in your report; instead, identify the type of facility and location. Example: A rehabilitation center in a midsize Midwestern city.

Use the following scenario as the basis for your report:

Scenario

The unit-based Shared Governance Council of the organization where you work has identified a major nursing-related challenge (patient/staff safety, confidentiality, management/staff conflict, poor patient satisfaction survey scores, or nursing staff shortages) within your health care organization.
In an unusual move, your system administrator is considering creating a new nurse leadership position that would have the responsibility and authority to address this specific issue. As a member of the shared governance council’s subcommittee, you have been asked to write the committee’s final report.

DELIVERABLE: IMPACT REPORT TO SENIOR LEADERSHIP

Write a 4–6 page impact report to senior leadership that identifies the challenge, analyzes how it affects the organization from a nursing perspective, and details the new position.

  • Use systems thinking and leadership theory as tools to approach this problem.

Construct the report with the following headings:

The Nursing Challenge:
  • Identify the nursing challenge and its impact from a nursing perspective. Choose from:
    • Patient/staff safety, confidentiality, management/staff conflict, poor patient-satisfaction survey scores, or nursing staff shortages.
The System/Organization:
  • Explain how the nursing challenge creates a gap or conflict between the organization’s statements and practice.
    • Identify the organization type—that is, specialty hospital, teaching hospital, major health care system, et cetera, and summarize the organizational structure, its mission, vision, and philosophy statements.
    • Use systems theory and systems thinking to explain the gap or conflict.
SWOT Analysis:

Use the SWOT Analysis Template linked in Required Resources and include the SWOT analysis table in your paper.

  • Identify organizational factors that impact the situation using a SWOT analysis.
    • For example, a budget cut may cause short staffing, which relates directly to the problem.
  • What factors within the system may facilitate a solution for this problem?
The Position:
  • Assess how the new nurse leader position will have power and influence and impact patient outcomes.
  • How will this position affect change within the organization?
  • Identify key leadership skills, knowledge, or abilities required for the position.
Additional Requirements
  • Written communication: Written communication should be free of errors that detract from the overall message.
  • APA formatting: Resources and in-text citations should be formatted according to current APA style and formatting.
  • Length: The report should be 4–6 pages in content length. Include a separate title page and a separate reference page.
  • Font and font size: Times New Roman, 12 point, double-spaced.
  • Number of resources: Use a minimum of three peer-reviewed resources

To deepen your understanding, you are encouraged to consider the questions below and discuss them with a fellow learner, a work associate, an interested friend, or a member of the heath care community.

  • What is the relationship between an organization’s structure, mission, vision, philosophy, values, and policies and procedures?
  • What strategies does your health care organization (or one that you are familiar with) use when making changes within the organization?
  • How do you see nurse leaders participating in the process of organizational change?
  • How are changes made in organizational structure, and when are they typically made?
  • How do transformational and transparent nursing leadership fit in the organization’s power structure?

Developing an Evidence-Based Practice

Developing An Evidence-Based Practice (EBP) Project Question

(Developing an Evidence-Based Practice)

Developing an Evidence-Based Practice (EBP) Project Question

Consider issues related to your nursing practice. What stands out to you about your specialty area? What questions or concerns do you think are especially in need of attention? Why? How would you most like to contribute to the knowledge base of your profession?

The EBP Project provides a significant opportunity for furthering the nursing profession. Formulating a specific, applicable question is a necessary first step for developing your project. The question defines the focus of the EBP Project and guides your selection of research methods and tools. Think about aspects of your specialty area and begin to formulate a question that relates to your nursing practice.

The primary purpose of this Discussion is to provide a forum in which you and your colleagues can support each other in cultivating a practice-related question.

To prepare:

  • Develop      your EBP Project question using the PICO (patient group, issue      or intervention, comparison, outcome) method as described in Chapter 2      of Clinical Research for the Doctor of Nursing Practice (p.      29) and other resources. Depending on your specialty area, you may modify      the PICO method as necessary to be appropriate for your target population.
  • Begin      to complete the “Literature Review Matrix,” reviewing at least four to six      research articles relevant to your specialty area and      your EBP Project question. Note any areas of difficulty that you      encounter, as well as any strategies or insights that might be beneficial      to others.
  • Reflect      on the information presented in the McCurry, Revell, and Roy article      listed in the Learning Resources.
  • What      questions or concerns, if any, do you have about how to develop your      project question and/or expand your expertise in your specialty area?

By tomorrow 08/28/18 10pm write a minimum of 550 words in APA format with at least 3 scholarly references from the list of required readings below. Answer the questions as numbered below:

Post a cohesive scholarly response that addresses the following:

1) Share your project question, as you have developed it thus far (Write the questions exactly as the PIICOT Template provided in the attached file area).

2) Discuss salient elements that inform your project question: theory, current research, nursing practice, and specialty knowledge.

3) Pose any questions or concerns you may have related to developing your project question or literature review. You may also include any other issues related to expanding your expertise within your specialty area.
