In this Discussion, you examine quality improvement models and evaluate how they could be applied to address specific issues within health care organizations.

To prepare:

  • Review the improvement models presented in the Learning Resources.
  • Evaluate each of the models and select two on which to focus for this Discussion.
  • Consider how each of the two models could be utilized in a health care organization to promote quality and safety. Think about the following:
    • How does the model bring together research and evidence-based practice to facilitate quality improvement?
    • How does the model contribute to a culture of quality and safety?
    • How does it address changes in process?
  • Reflect on the quality improvement issue and the health care setting that you are addressing for your Course Project. Of the two models that you have selected, determine which one you, as a nurse leader-manager, would use to address this issue. For this discussion, you will take on the role of an industrial-organizational psychologist recently awarded a contract to evaluate potential police candidates. The purpose of the evaluations is to determine the psychological capability of the applicants to be certified as police officers in your state. 1-In my own opinion, I think it is in the hands of the husband and wife to make the family function as one. I am from a polygamous family myself and we all tried to function as one even though there are sentiments within the family. My siblings and half siblings fought so hard to make everyone function as one. I am the third of sixteen children my father had, meaning I am role model and a mentor to my younger ones. I can say a polygamous family is in a way similar to couple who had kids in previous marriages in the sense that it involves women and half sibling trying to function as one. In the case of a couple with previous marriages have a great deal of responsibilities on them. Both husband and wife must be willing to totally accept the kids from previous marriages. Accepting and loving the kids from previous marriages will bring peace and harmony to the family.

2-I agree, divorce is devastating. Children can have an extremely hard time adapting to their new home life. It is very import for the parents to establish some type of stability as well as frame work and guidelines, as you have stated. This will offer the children support and structure that is needed during the deveopmental years.

3-Respect and understanding there will be difficulty is a great point to make when discussing role changes in a family.  Communication between parents and children in the case of divorce is also very important to help the children adapt to their situations.  Disruption of family because of death is also a situation when these same interventions come to mind; emotions run wild for all family members and coping is hard.  In these circumstances it’s important to focus on the members as individuals in their coping so that they are able to overcome and begin to function as a unit of the family again.

This data set represents hypothetical data from a study that examined how well some core personality traits predict a person’s level of popularity. Personality was measured using the “Big 5,” which is a very commonly used measure of personality. In fact, a Big 5 personality scale was included in the Module Two discussion.

Here is some more information about the variables in this hypothetical data set:

• Number: This is the ID number of the participant

• Sex: Participants’ sex, with “1” standing for male and “2” standing for female

• Age: College year of the participant, with “1” standing for freshman, “2” standing for sophomore, etc.

• Popularity: Popularity measured with a questionnaire that could range from 0 to 100, with higher numbers indicating more popularity

Although some states and cities have passed laws to ban texting and using handheld phones while driving, there is no current law to ban all cell phone use while driving. However, according to the National Safety Council (2009), 28 percent of all crashes—1.6 million per year—are caused by cell phone use and texting by drivers. The mission of a new national nonprofit organization called FocusDriven, patterned after Mothers Against Drunk Driving, is to make phone use while driving as illegal and socially unacceptable as drunk driving. US Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood supports FocusDriven and its efforts: According to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, LaHood said this movement will become “an army of people traveling the countryside” to push for bans on cell phone use and tough enforcement (Schmit, 2010).

As a political advocate interested in this issue, you will be writing a policy proposal that utilizes the current research to propose a solution to the issue and submit it in this assignment.
