Assignment 1:Speech Acquisition

Assignment 1:Speech Acquisition

(Assignment 1:Speech Acquisition)

Speech acquisition, the process by which humans learn to understand and produce language, is a complex and multifaceted phenomenon. It begins in infancy, with babies recognizing sounds and intonations from their environment. By around six months, infants can differentiate between the phonetic contrasts of their native language. Early speech acquisition is facilitated by a combination of innate biological mechanisms and environmental exposure.

The critical period hypothesis suggests that there is an optimal time window in early childhood for acquiring language. During this period, children are particularly receptive to linguistic input, allowing them to learn vocabulary and grammatical structures with remarkable speed. Social interaction plays a crucial role, as children learn language through communication with caregivers and peers.

Theories of speech acquisition include Noam Chomsky’s concept of an innate “universal grammar,” suggesting that all humans are born with a predisposition for language learning, and the social interactionist theory, which emphasizes the importance of social context and interaction in language development.

By age three, most children have a substantial vocabulary and grasp basic grammar rules. The process continues to refine throughout early childhood, with increasing complexity in sentence structures and conversational skills. Understanding speech acquisition provides insight into cognitive development and the essential role of early experiences in shaping language proficiency.

Assignment 1:Speech Acquisition

You have learned about the different aspects of memory in the previous modules. Language is critical not only to communicate with others but also to memory. Many memories are encoded using language. Memory is much more rudimentary when language skills are not present.

Research some of the general characteristics of language and the concept of speech acquisition in infants using your textbook, the Internet, and the Argosy University online library resources before responding to these questions:

  • Researchers describe language as having six different properties. Describe the six properties. Which two properties do you think are the most important? Explain your answers with reasons.
  • Jim and Sue just had a baby, and they are interested in learning more about the process of language acquisition. They have heard about the controversy surrounding the view that speech is special. Do you think speech is special or is it processed like other auditory stimuli? Explain your answer with reasons.
  • Several African languages use clicks as consonants. Jim and Sue, who are English speaking, cannot hear the difference between the different types of clicks and have a difficult time learning one of these languages. If they were to move to Africa when their baby is about one-year old, do you think the baby would be able to hear the difference? Why or why not? Do you think she would hear the difference if they moved to Africa after her tenth birthday? Give reasons for your answers.

Write your initial response in 4–5 paragraphs. Apply APA standards to the citation of sources.

Guiding Theories in Nursing

Guiding Theories in Nursing

(Guiding Theories in Nursing)

nursing career as guidance on how to deal with patients and other nursing professionals

Question description

As I take another look at the syllabus for this course, it does appear that most of the objectives have been met. Prior to taking this class, I could not say if my nursing practice was guided by any specific nursing theory. The associate’s degree program that I completed over 22 years ago never made any mention of the many theories that could explain the care that I would give. Now, I have a much greater understanding of all the foundational theories and the conceptual frameworks that each contains. All the assignments completed allowed me to delve deeply into the history of the theorists and their inspiration. Each theorist had their own unique viewpoint on the practice of nursing and each theory has its own unique perspective on the definition of the concepts of person, health, nursing and environment. While doing research on the theories, the application to current practice, education, research, and leadership were revealed.

I now have a greater understanding as to why nursing theories were created. These brave theorists knew that if they took the precious time to completely and meticulously define what nurses do, then the profession as a whole could be taken more seriously. We are not just doctor’s helpers. We are much more. As nursingjournal.org (2017) suggests, the future development of nursing theories will lead to better patient outcomes and satisfaction, and evidence-based practice can be facilitated by research and the creation of new theories. Administration, education and direct patient care can always benefit from the discovery of middle range theories (para. 4).

The study of these theories has allowed me to analyze my own nursing care and to understand my own values, beliefs, standards and ethical principles that guide my nursing practice. Many of the theories seemed extreme and incredibly unconventional, but as nursing has a myriad of practice areas and every nurse approaches their job with their own set of beliefs and values, I can appreciate the unconventional theories as part of that diversity. The theories I gravitated and related to were those that were very simple and defined nursing care in simple terms. Katherine Kolcaba’s Comfort Theory is exactly my style of nursing. From the beginning of my nursing career, I have always felt that my job was made much easier if all the comfort needs of my babies and their families were met. Making sure they had everything they needed, both physically and emotionally to feel at ease with their stay in the hospital was the concept that has guided me. As Smith and Parker (2015) relates it is the interventions that are “small, nontechnical, but very comforting acts of compassion and understanding” (p. 387) that matter most, and it is these acts that have the most positive effects on our patients and their healing (p. 387). I cannot say that I will strictly consider any of the theories learned as I progress in the coming years of my career, but I will be much more conscious of their existence.

Wishing all my fellow students great holidays and a very Happy New Year!!

~Amy Matthews

Theorist’s Journey: Crafting Theory

Theorist’s Journey: Crafting Theory

(Theorist’s Journey: Crafting Theory)

Where did theory came from, health and medicine homework help

Question description

Where Did the Theory Come From

This Assignment addresses this course outcome:

MN502-2: Explain how theoretical frameworks influence advance.

PurposeThe purpose of this Assignment is to explore how a theorist explicates his or her philosophy and thoughts behind a theoretical field. As in other fields of study, nursing has a plethora of theorists and theories. These theorists have developed their paradigm over time enriching it with research and dialogue with other theorists.

DirectionsYou are going to explore how a theorist of your choice created his or her theory. Did it develop as an acorn becoming a mighty oak over the decades? Did it arrive as a burst of light like the big bang as some believe created our universe? Was it developed from a blueprint like a spaceship where thousands of scholars worked together to create a rocket to the moon? In point of fact, how is a theory developed? This is what we are exploring.

You will pick a theorist who interests you (VIRGINIA HENDERSON OR WHICH EVER), it does not have to be a nurse theorist. You may also choose from other disciplines such as: behavioral, leadership, business, education, technology.

You will become the theorist immersing yourself in the writings from the earliest mentioned to the most current.

As you read, look at how you (taking on the persona of the theorist) developed the theory.

In the first stage, theorizing occurs. This is where you, as the theorist, identify the concepts of what nursing is and is not. Perhaps you questioned what concepts were guiding those in nursing practice and then started to question your role. You started asking yourself, “Where am I in nursing, and where the profession is going? Is there some overarching concept that guides the professional in his or her practice?” This is where you recognize that a theory is needed.

In the second stage, syntax is developed. This is where you will define the terms. Look for changing definitions of terms. Consider, for example, Jean Watson. She starts by defining the word “caring.” Within the last ten years she has refined her terminology changing the term caring to caritas. This demonstrates a growth and maturation from decades of research she and other scholars did to produce the theory of caring.

The third stage is theory testing. Defined as the phenomena behind the theory that are exposed through research. The definitions of terms are refined. The theorists and other researchers consider whether this theory helps answer questions that arise in practice. This is where your theory is used in by a widening group of researchers. For example, graduate nursing students request the tool you developed while testing your theory.

The fourth and last stage is evaluation. This is where philosophical debate occurs as the concepts are applied through evidenced based practice in the act of providing nursing care.

Assignment DetailsFor this Assignment, you are going to write an article for a nursing journal explaining how you developed your theory through the four stages (theorizing, syntax, theory testing, and evaluation). Your paper must be 3 to 5 pages, not including the title and reference pages.

Enhancing Nursing Practice

Enhancing Nursing Practice: Conceptual Model Analysis

(Enhancing Nursing Practice)

Enhancing nursing practice involves a multifaceted approach, often guided by conceptual models that provide a framework for understanding and improving patient care. One such model is the Neuman Systems Model (NSM), which emphasizes the holistic perspective of nursing care, considering the interrelationship between the client’s physiological, psychological, sociocultural, developmental, and spiritual variables. By utilizing this model, nurses can assess stressors affecting the client’s stability and develop interventions to maintain or restore their optimal wellness.

Another influential model is the Transtheoretical Model (TTM), which focuses on behavior change by identifying stages individuals go through when modifying health behaviors. Nurses can apply this model to tailor interventions based on the client’s readiness to change, thereby promoting long-term adherence to health-promoting behaviors.

Furthermore, the Nursing Process Model (NPM) provides a systematic framework for delivering individualized care, encompassing assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation phases. Through this model, nurses can collaborate with clients to set goals, implement evidence-based interventions, and evaluate outcomes to ensure the provision of high-quality, patient-centered care.

In conclusion, conceptual models such as NSM, TTM, and NPM serve as invaluable tools for enhancing nursing practice by providing a structured approach to understanding, assessing, and intervening in patient care, ultimately contributing to improved health outcomes.

11 unread reply.11 reply.

Your initial discussion thread is due on Day 3 (Thursday) and you have until Day 7 (Monday) to respond to your classmates. Your grade will reflect both the quality of your initial post and the depth of your responses. Refer to the Discussion Forum Grading Rubric under the Settings icon above for guidance on how your discussion will be evaluated.

Treatment of Schizophrenia and Depression

Prior to beginning work on this discussion, read the required chapters from the text and review the required articles for this week.

Taking on the role of the expert in the treatment of schizophrenia or depression, you will prepare a presentation for a group of physicians who are seeking your opinion on the treatment of patients with these disorders. For this interactive assignment you will create and upload a 5- to10-slide PowerPoint presentation as well as a five-minute screencast of the presentation to share with your peers.

For this presentation, select either schizophrenia or depression as the basis for your presentation. Begin by creating your PowerPoint presentation. In the presentation, include information which explains the neurotransmitter theory behind the disorder and how the drugs used to treat the disorder affect those neurotransmitter systems.  Evaluate the risk and benefits of treating a patient with the most common type of medication and of not using drugs to treat the patient. In your evaluation, examine issues such as the rate of success with the most common drugs used as well as the incidence of side effects with these same drugs, including mortality associated with drug use. Then consider not using medications to treat the disorder. Take into account the natural course of the illness, the rate of spontaneous recovery, and the rate of mortality when untreated. You may also incorporate the use of other modes of treatment into your evaluation.

Your PowerPoint must include your presenter notes in the notes field to indicate what you intend to say during the screencast and well-chosen images to enhance the understanding of your audience. Remember that your screencast will be a maximum of five-minutes, and use your speaker notes to ensure that you will be able to present your materials within this time limit. (You may access Garr Reynolds’s Top Ten Slide Tips (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site. for additional assistance in creating an effective visual presentation.) Once you have created your PowerPoint you will create a screencast presentation of up to 5 minutes in length using any screencasting software you choose. Attach your PowerPoint file to your intial post and include the URL for your screencast in the body of the post before submitting it.

Note to Students: This assignment requires that you produce a visual presentation, supply a spoken audio narrative, and to listen the audio narrative of others.  Note you are also asked to provide a transcript of your presentation.  If you have a documented disability accommodation that might interfere with your ability to complete this assignment you may contact your instructor to develop a comparable alternative assignment.  If you have other issues that you feel may be a barrier to your ability to complete this course or this assignment please contact the Office of Access and Wellness at: access@ashford.edu.

Guided Response: Review several of your colleagues’ video presentations and respond to at least two of your peers by 11:59 p.m. on Day 7 of the week. You are encouraged to post your required replies earlier in the week to promote more meaningful interactive discourse in this discussion. In your responses to your peers you will take on the role of one of the physicians in the audience. In your responses, consider two of the following aspects from the presentation:

  • The content of the evaluation: Was it sound, well-reasoned, and based on substantial evidence?
  • The format of the presentation: Was it easy to understand? Was the sequence of facts well-constructed? Were the visual aids helpful in understanding the meaning of the content?
  • The video presentation: Was the verbal presentation clear? Was the pacing appropriate for the material(s)? Was the video helpful in understanding the meaning of the content?

Please use your research to support your assertions. Continue to monitor the discussion forum until 5:00 p.m. Mountain Standard Time (MST) on Day 7 of the week and respond to anyone who replies to your initial post.

Biopsychosocial Model, Person-in-Environment (PIE) System, and Bronfenbrenner’s Ecological Theory

Question description

FYI:::For this assignment it must be submitted through wayfair… I need a freash paper, not a copied assignment! someone has done that to me from here and it almost cost me everything. Thanks.

Biopsychosocial Model, Person-in-Environment (PIE) System, and Bronfenbrenner’s Ecological Theory

Prior to completing this assignment, please review the Week 1 required readings (textbook, articles, videos, and Instructor Guidance) that cover the three theories used for this assignment. When researching journal articles for this assignment, please use these search terms for best results: Biopsychosocial Model, Person-in-Environment system, and Bronfenbrenner’s Ecological Theory or Bronfenbrenner’s Ecological Model. When preparing your PowerPoint presentation, you may want to do a Google or YouTube search for How do I ____ (add Speaker’s Notes, quote in APA, change a design, change colors, etcetera) in PowerPoint.

Scenario: You have been asked to speak to an audience on the importance of the social factors affecting one’s experience of life. For this presentation, create an interesting and educational PowerPoint presentation, which contains a critical narrative that integrates aspects of the various theories with your individual sociocultural experiences.

To begin, create a PowerPoint presentation of 10 to 12 slides (excluding title and reference slides). Research each theory fully so you can effectively synthesize information relevant to these topics. Your presentation must include three scholarly sourcesPreview the documentView in a new window that are cited in APA format as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site.. For help with finding scholarly resources for your presentation view the tutorial on searching for articles from the Ashford University Library.

Please include the following in your presentation.

  • Include a succinct thesis statement for your presentation.
  • Choosing one of the SOC313 Family membersPreview the documentView in a new window, provide a thorough description of the health condition, and describe how the condition affects the person physically and mentally.
  • Provide a thorough explanation as to how the condition affects their meso-level and exo-level interactions.
  • Compare and contrast the three developmental theories in your presentation. Discuss the similarities and differences in each theory. There will be three comparisons (Bronfenbrenner to PIE, Bronfenbrenner to Biopsychosocial, and PIE to Biopsychosocial).
  • Incorporate appropriate images, tables, graphs, or other visuals as necessary.
  • Must end with a conclusion that reaffirms your thesis.
  • Follow directions below regarding information to be placed on the slides versus what is included in the Speaker’s Notes section below each slide.

(Understanding Life’s Social Fabric)

Please observe these general guidelines for your visual presentation. This link Preview the documentView in a new windowcontains tips for basic guidelines of slide presentations. Additionally, this website (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site. offers tips for creating effective and interesting slide presentations.

  • Slides should be sequenced and organized clearly.
  • Slides should show a clear and logical progression of ideas.
  • Slides should include a maximum of five bullet points or short sentences, not dense paragraphs. The information that explains each bullet point is conveyed via Speaker’s Notes. Speaker’s Notes are the typed notes that appear in the box below the slide that complement the presentation slides. Whereas the slides have short bulleted items, the Speaker’s Notes will contain more details. They are essentially what the presenter will say during a presentation to an audience to explain the bulleted points and any images, graphs, data summary, and/or animation on the slide. It is important that the Speaker’s Notes are concise and detailed when explaining the points.
  • Slides should include relevant visuals such as images, graphs, tables, data summaries, sound, and/or animation that enhance understanding of concepts, ideas, and relationships.
  • When using sourced material, follow APA as you would for discussions or other written assignments, using quotation marks at the beginning and end of verbatim material, a citation, and a corresponding reference on the reference slide.
  • The presentation as a whole should include a consistent theme, format, and font to assist with readability.

The slideshow needs to be visually engaging. For assistance with designing the visuals for your presentation, view the PowerPoint Best Practices tool.Preview the documentView in a new windowRemember, this presentation is for an audience. You want to include far more details in the Speaker’s Notes section than on the slide so the audience members focus on the presenter, not the presentation.

All sources used within the presentation must be cited properly within the slides and included on the required reference slide, which will be the last slide of the PowerPoint presentation. You must include a reference slide when you submit your PowerPoint presentation.

Creating the Presentation(Understanding Life’s Social Fabric)
The PowerPoint presentation:

  • Must be 10 to 12 slides (excluding title and reference slides).

We now have options that take learning to an entirely different level. Technology has now soared to a level of advancement. You have the option of signing onto a computer and sitting in a virtual classroom. Students are required to be computer saavy and keep up with podcast and web based classes (Campos-DeCarvalho, Railka-DeSouza, & Coelho Ramalho Vasconselos Morais, 2017). When dealing with on-line class settings the instructor is able to reach all learners as they are usually taking the courses at their own pace and assuring that the assignments are turned in on time. Does this type of learning continue with innovative processes? I believe so it allows for a more structured learning experience and the individual to be structured and it welcomes autonomy but at the same time it forces the student to learn and inspire on individual basis.

Faculty Experience(Enhancing Nursing Education through Technology)

The faculty experiences collective and collaborative learning. While many classes are conducted on-line the instructor must have the potential to get the information across without face to face meetings and sometimes that can be difficult depending on the type of learners that are assigned in the on-line classroom setting. If the students are geographically dispersed it is not always apparent to the other learners and should not be pointed out. All learners should be treated equal and made to feel like a part of the group. As technology continues to advance the instructors are recording lectures and allowing the students to view in the privacy of their home (Billings, & Halstead, 2016). The students that may have issues with having the technology available in the homes still have the option of attending classes in the face to face setting. The use of blended learning has become relatively important and as we move forward with technology things are going to continue to advance.

How do information and distant learning technologies allow for innovative and extended experiences for faculty teaching to a group of geographically disperse students?

When faculty are teaching distant learning students it is helpful that they have the technology to use the information they have to share with the students. When the faculty can share information about the topics and objectives for the week through the learning services this is amazing because students in the group can be from all over the world. Since in different countries and different cultures we perform and value different things in different manners it is important that we share this with each other. When students from the different geographical locations work together it helps from them to figure out how to manage time better and make sure they are making the best out of their resources. According to Massy (2015) “Across American higher education the lure of the new information technologies remains as uncertain as it is unsettling. While few doubt that information technology (IT) has the potential to enhance teaching and learning, there is no agreement on how that technology should be used to boost academic productivity–or whether such an increase is in itself a valid goal if its enhancement means substituting technology for the more traditional, labor intensive rhythms of higher education.” This information is huge because with technology the sky is the limit as to how we can get the students to interact and be able to offer them more opportunities.

I do agree with the statement about the different use of technology and helping individual learners meet their needs of their learning styles. I think because people can remember information in different manners that is a huge part of the teaching process. Some say that it is more convenient which in some ways it may be, but the educator still must put the presentation together on the materials presented. According to the US Department of Education (2015) “Used to support both teaching and learning, technology infuses classrooms with digital learning tools, such as computers and hand held devices; expands course offerings, experiences, and learning materials; supports learning 24 hours a day, 7 days a week; builds 21st century skills; increases student engagement and motivation; and accelerates learning.” This is important if we need to get our students engaged in the learning process then I do not think it is a bad thing at all. As the world continues to change so does the health care system. Electronics are here to stay and if we can find interactive materials for students to use which will help them to retain the information then I do not see a problem with this. In an article from Laura Devaney (2016) states “Using smartphones and tablets, educators and administrators have at their fingertips a variety of tools, strategies and digital coaches designed to make their instructional and organizational goals a reality.” I think if we can push our students and hold them accountable but still give them the resources needed to make education successful for them that is what is most important.

agree that technology has the potential for making the teaching-learning process more convenient, stimulating and accessible. Students today are comfortable with technology and have access to technology. Students today have and know how to use laptops, Ebooks and IPhones and often have more than one device. Having these devices allows the learning process to be more accessible. Students also stay up-to-date with the newest technologies that come available. Technology can connect the student and faculty through virtual classrooms, webinars, podcasts, apps for their phones, reference software and numerous drug guides (Billings & Halstead, 2016). According to Bastable (2014), more than 2500 colleges and universities in the United States offer online courses in the health profession and related higher education programs. These different devices have improved accessibility and also provided a more stimulating learning environment because of the variety of tools available.

I also agree that different technologies assist the teacher in meeting the individual needs and learning styles of the student. In a research study by Schell, (2004), software was introduced to facilitate the learning needs of the student. The project allowed students, as future educators, to individualize their teaching based on the learning styles of the student. Using this computer program as a supplement to the classroom helped accomodate more students and multiple learning styles even when faculty was limited.

Technology can meet individual styles of learning in several ways. For example, the linguistic learner would benefit from online recorded lectures and the posting of comments like in a discussion board. Computer simulation programs of critical thinking exercises benefit the logical learner. Naturalistic learners benefit from the variety of technology available because these learners benefit from learning environments that offer variety and change within their environment (Reynolds, n.d.).
