Participant Observation: Gender Roles Study

Participant Observation: A Study in Gender Roles

(Participant Observation: Gender Roles Study )

Have you ever thought about how much of everyday life is organized by gender? When you stop to think about it, much of what most people do during the routine of a normal day is categorized as either masculine or feminine. From the soap you use for that morning shower to the restroom you use when are work, much of what we do is influenced — even dictated — by what society says is appropriate because of our biological sex.

To explore this concept of a gendered society in more depth, you will use the Participant Observation Checklist to organize and conduct your research to identify and explain two examples of how society is segmented by gender at any single location in your community. You might choose a park, a grocery store, your favorite pub or fast food restaurant, a department store, or the local hardware store. Remember that you should be acting in both the participant and observer roles. Look around to see if there are obvious signs that gender determines some aspect of how people act in that location. Then, use the structural functional theory to explain how separating events, actions, or even merchandize by gender works to keep the overall society stable.

For example, if you chose to observe as a casual shopper in department store, one obvious sign that gender is important in how the store is organized is that there are likely two different departments for women’s and men’s clothing. That same department store would likely have restrooms designated for ladies and gentlemen, too. The structural-functional perspective would suggest that separating the clothing by gender makes it more convenient for shoppers to find what they want, and separate restrooms for men and women are thought to be necessary for reasons of modesty that are part of stable cultural patterns of behavior within this society.

Instructions:

Complete the Participant Observation checklist to assist you with organizing your research and to take notes during your observation. Then, using your observation notes, write a paper that has these elements:

  • An introduction that explains the research conducted and the purpose of the paper
  • Detailed descriptions of the two observed instances in which gender influenced the actions of people in the real world. Be sure to address these questions: Who? What? Where? When?
  • An explanation that incorporates the structural-functional theory to explain how gender was at work to keep society orderly in the social setting that you chose.
  • A summary that restates the main points of the paper and suggests one lesson learned from the observation that is applicable to your own life in a gendered world.

Your paper should be between 4 and 5 pages, plus a title and reference page. You should include in-text citations in APA format for at least one academic source in addition to the course text. You should include the Participant Observation Checklist when you upload the Assignment into the Unit 4 Assignment Dropbox.

methods of research design.

GEL-6.1: Demonstrate knowledge of various methods of research design.

(methods of research design.)

GEL-1.1: Demonstrate college-level communication through the composition of original materials in Standard American English.

As you have learned during this class, the many methods of research available make it helpful to think through the different options prior to determining which research method is appropriate for your study. It is important to think of what is most needed from your study results when choosing what method to use. If a researcher wants to study an exercise intervention for reducing depression, s/he might study this approach in depth with one person using a single case study, s/he might try to study this by watching people and collecting observational data, s/he might survey people on their rates of exercise and their moods, s/he might collect data from people who regularly use their gym membership and people who do not in terms of their mood, or s/he might randomly assign people to receive or not receive an exercise intervention. Different research designs yield different data. The data obtained, in turn, impact the conclusions that can be made and the implications of study results for professionals working in the field.

For this expository essay, you will identify uses, strengths, and limitations for main study methods discussed in class for a topic of interest (ideally the topic you have used for the course learning activities, but this is not required). You will then choose which of these methods you think is best for studying your research question and design a study using the chosen method. You will present hypothetical findings, discuss limitations of your study, discuss areas for further research, and discuss how your study findings could be used by professionals in the field. Please see the Unit 9 assignment template for more information.

He is married to PL a 49 y/o Caucasian female with a history of generalized anxiety disorder and depression they been married for 20 year. They have two children an 18 y/o male that just graduated from high school and 16 y/o female that is currently a junior in higschool. Then have been coming to therapy for 6 months, the initial reason for coming to terapy is due to RL iniciated to have an explosive disorder his temper and anger outburst as well as challenges with substance abuse. His drug of choices is alcohol, he admitted to drink about two cans of vodka everyday and her wife feels that he is more explosive whe he drinks and he does not believe that he has a drinking problem and is not willing to go to a rehab or alcoholic anonymous. PL saids rhat RL has been physically, emotional and mentally abusing her in the past last time she was physicaaly abuse was 4 months ago which police was called but she did not want to persue any charges at that time in hopes  that he would improve. the expected outcome was less explossive outburst from RL, beeter insight about his drinking problem and better communication between the family. The therapeutic approach that is been used for this couple and family  is the existential therapeutic approach which this approach all member of the family are encourage to speak honestly on what he orshe see and hears feel and thinks. Wife and kids are afraid of him because they think that he will get easilly angry. Homework assignment has been given to RL to help to manage his anger as deep breathing and relaxation techniques and exercises. Perhaps narrative family therapy could be a better option for this family, narrative therapy helps peopleto sepatate themselves from problems and saturate stories.

Standardized Terminologies : Health Care Databases

Standardized Terminologies : Health Care Databases

(Standardized Terminologies : Health Care Databases)

Question description

To prepare:

  • Review this week’s Learning Resources focusing on the significance of standardized terminologies in health care settings. Consider how standardized terminologies are important in the development and use of databases and clinical information systems.
  • Explore the websites of major health care organizations to determine their recommendations on acceptable standardized terminologies.
  • Determine the standardized terminologies currently used by your health care organization (or one with which you are familiar).
  • Consider the standard terminologies (recommended by a major medical organization or based on your experiences) you would like to see incorporated into your organization’s databases and clinical information systems. What would be the benefit of using these particular standards? How might this impact the quality of the information retrieved from databases within your organization?

THEN

Post a description of at least one standardized terminology that is recommended by a major health care organization. Assess how or if this terminology is incorporated into your organization’s databases and clinical information systems. Identify at least one additional standardized terminology you would like to see incorporated into the organization’s databases. Analyze the importance of incorporating this terminology and how this could impact the quality of the data retrieved from the databases. Justify your response.

Critical Burn Care: Learning Amid Crisis

Critical Burn Care: Learning Amid Crisis

(Critical Burn Care: Learning Amid Crisis)

Recall a clinical learning experience you enjoyed. Describe the experience and identify specific aspects such as educational setting, motivational strategy, learning theory, and delivery of content (how was the material presented).

I have worked as RN in a level one trauma center for about 3 years now, working in the Burn ICU has been one of the biggest challenges I have faced in my nursing career. Some people may assume that the Burn ICU does not care for very sick patients like other units, but in actuality it is so specialized that a well-trained CTICU nurse would struggle. One of the biggest learning experiences I faced since being in the Burn ICU was during a horrible burn trauma activation involving 6 male individuals that were burned while working at the local power plant. It was about 5:45pm, when the charge nurse pager went off with a burn trauma alert. Yes, I happened to have taken over charge nurse at 3:00pm, while managing one patient in the ICU. Back to back the pager went off 6 times, with different burn trauma alerts. Before I knew it, my charge phone was ringing and it was the hospital supervisor informing me that we were going to be transferring out all the patients in our 6 bed ICU to other ICU’s to make room for the 6 burn victims arriving. Suddenly, before we knew it we moved all of our patients and the new burn victims came rolling in. All of the burns were ranging from 60-90% total body surface. I individually managed one of the patients while navigating the unit and med-surg burn floor. It was about 6:30pm, I called in 4 nurses to come in early to help assist with debriding these patients. By the end of the shift at 7pm, all 6 patients were being lined and started on CRRT, along with arterial lines placed and central lines. I somehow had to manage my nursing skills appropriately and take charge of the entire unit. At 7:15p, I lost pulses on my all 4 extremities and my patients bladder pressure was sky rocketing. After about 10 minutes, the plastic surgery team was at the bedside performing fasciotomies and trauma surgery was opening up my patients’ abdomen at beside to help relieve bladder pressure.

During this one individual experience I learned so much about myself. My time management, assessment skills, nursing knowledge and team leadership skills were all put to a test. Thinking back I thought I would have fallen apart, I had only been a RN for a little under two years at this time and I was still questioning all of my skills and abilities. Walking out of the hospital that night I could have not been any more exhausted and discouraged, wondering if I had messed something up or forgotten something. I tried my best to think to myself “you are leaving and you kept this 90% full thickness burn victim alive, that is what you are here for.”

evidence-based practice proposal.

evidence-based practice proposal.

(evidence-based practice proposal.)

Throughout this course you will be developing a formal, evidence-based practice proposal. The proposal is the plan for an evidence-based practice project designed to address a problem, issue, or concern in the professional work setting. Although several types of evidence can be used to support a proposed solution, a sufficient and compelling base of support from valid research studies is required as the major component of that evidence. Proposals are submitted in a format suitable for obtaining formal approval in the work setting. Proposals will vary in length depending upon the problem or issue addressed; they can be between 3,500 and 5,000 words. The cover sheet, abstract, references page, and appendices are not included in the word limit.

Section headings and letters for each section component are required. Responses are addressed in narrative form in relation to that number. Evaluation of the proposal in all sections is based upon the extent to which the depth of content reflects graduate-level critical-thinking skills.

This project contains seven formal sections:

  1. Section A: Organizational Culture and Readiness Assessment
  2. Section B: Problem Description
  3. Section C: Literature Support
  4. Section D: Solution Description
  5. Section E: Change Model
  6. Section F: Implementation Plan
  7. Section G: Evaluation of Process

Each section (A-G) will be submitted as separate assignments so your instructor can provide feedback (refer to applicable modules for further descriptions of each section).

The final paper will consist of the completed project (with revisions to all sections), title page, abstract, reference list, and appendices. Appendices will include a conceptual model for the project, handouts, data and evaluation collection tools, a budget, a timeline, resource lists, and approval forms.

Use the “NUR-699 EBP Implementation Plan Guide” and “NUR-699 Evidence-Based Practice Project Student Example” to assist you. Also refer to “NUR-699 Evidence-Based Practice Project Proposal Format.”

Question description

I had another tutor complete this paper and did not follow through with the edits for this assignment and I need someone to fix it ASAP. Please read the instructions for this paper below:

This week you will submit your instructional unit, which should include three lesson plans: one focused on patient education, one on family education, and one on staff development. Remember, your plans should demonstrate a logical approach to teaching, communicate what is to be taught and how, and outline how objectives are to be evaluated. Click here for a refresher on what each final lesson should include.

Building on the work that you started in Week 2, for all three groups of learners:

•Write several broad instructional goals for the educational experience.

•Write several behavioral objectives based on Bloom’s taxonomy.

•Describe the lesson content.

•Provide a sequence for teaching activities.

•Describe instructional methods.

•Indicate time allotted for each activity.

•Identify and describe the instructional resources (materials, tools, etc.) and technology to be used.

•Describe how the learning will be evaluated.

On a separate references page, cite all sources using APA format.

Submit your response in a 6- to 7-page paper

Here is the feedback from my instructor on what needs to be fixed:

Please redo the objectives  – you need to identify which ones are cognitive, affective and psychomotor domains. Also you need to have objectives for EACH learner.

The learners consist of adolescent, young adult and older females on various aspects on early detection of breast cancer.

I have attached the original paper that the tutor completed ( that needs to be edited), as well as the first paper that I completed.

Stereotypes And Biases Paper

Stereotypes And Biases Paper

(Stereotypes And Biases Paper)

It will need to be 12-point font, double spaced. You do not need to cite references for this paper OR put it in APA format.

For the first part of this assignment, you will describe the community you grew up in, specifics about its ethnic/cultural/income/political makeup, and your introduction to the notion that others are different from you. Go back as far as you can remember and come forward, thinking about events and people in your environment that may have shaped any biases or stereotypes that you hold (1-2 pages). (I have done this part) just check the grammar and rewrite it in your way.

For the second part of this assignment, you will have a conversation about biases and stereotypes with someone who is different from you in some way. You decide how to interpret “difference”. They can be from another part of the country (or a completely different country) from you, a different race or culture from you, come from a different socio-economic background, come from a family with different political viewpoints than yours, have differing abilities from you, be part of a different generation, etc. The conversation should last at least 15 minutes. The topic of conversation will be about personal biases and stereotypes that you hold. In the conversation, you will. . .

1) Describe the biases/stereotypes you hold about others (and where you think they came from) to your conversation partner and ask your conversation partner to describe the biases/stereotypes they hold about others to you.

2) Talk about if you feel your biases affect your behavior in any way and have your partner do the same.

3) Reflect with your conversation partner about biases/stereotypes that you feel other people hold about you (so both of you will talk about this from your own perspective).

4)  Decide whether you alter your behavior when you are around people whom you believe hold a bias/stereotype about you.

For the final part of this assignment, you will reflect on the conversation you had (2-3 pages).

1) You will explain how you are different from the person with whom you had the conversation.

2) You will summarize your own thoughts about the biases and stereotypes that you hold and how your thoughts compare to your conversation partner.  How were they similar? How were they different? Reflect on why this might be the case.

3) You will summarize the biases and stereotypes that you feel others hold about you. Also summarize the biases and stereotypes that your conversation partner felt that others hold about him/her and describe how your behaviors and those of your conversation partner change as a result of the perceived stereotypes that others hold.

Identification And Discrimination

Categorical Perception: Identification and Discrimination

(Identification And Discrimination)

Across the United States and the world, people speak English with many different accents. How is it that we can understand what is being said whether one speaks with a Southern “drawl,” a New England “clip,” or a Western “twang?” Categorical perception may be one of the ways that our perceptual processes help us understand words spoken with different accents.

Access the following CogLab demonstrations and follow the instructions to complete both demonstrations (these are listed under the Speech & Language tab).

  • Categorical Perception: Identification
  • Categorical Perception: Discrimination

Using the textbook and module readings, the Argosy University online library resources, and the Internet, research the effect of training on one’s ability to make perceptual discriminations.

Based on the demonstrations and your research, address the following:

  • Define categorical perception. Differentiate between identification and discrimination.
  • Explain whether your personal experimental results for both demonstrations follow patterns similar to the predicted experimental results.
  • In many situations, you may be forced to make categorical judgments. Name a job in which someone has to categorize people or things that actually fall on a continuum. Describe the categorization this person would have to make.
  • Describe your views on why it is useful to have categorical speech perception.
  • Experience and training can affect your ability to make perceptual discriminations. Explain whether you agree or disagree with this statement.

Support your answers with adequate reasoning and scholarly research and references.

Write a 2–3-page paper in Word format. Be sure to include a title page and a reference page. Apply APA standards to citation of sources.

Week 6 – Research Proposal

Week 6 – Research Proposal

(Week 6 – Research Proposal)
Research ProposalThe written research proposal will be created based on a narrowly defined aspect of the topic selected in Week One. A research proposal is a detailed plan for a specific study to be conducted at a future time. It is the document which potential researchers typically submit to an institutional review board (IRB) for ethical review and approval, and/or to funding agencies to secure financial support for a research effort. Because it is a plan for research which has not yet been conducted, the Methods section should be written in the future tense and should not contain any hypothetical results. The paper must address all of the components required in the Methods section of a research proposal. The following actions must be completed.

  • State the research question and/or hypothesis.
  • Briefly compare the characteristics of the major research paradigms used in previous studies on the chosen topic. Introduce the specific approach (qualitative, quantitative, or mixed methods), research design, sampling strategy, data collection procedures, and data analysis techniques to be used in this study. Provide a short explanation as to why the selected procedures are more feasible than other alternatives for the research topic.
  • Describe any relevant variables, measures, and statistical tests.
  • Apply ethical principles and professional standards to the proposed psychological research. Provide an analysis of any ethical issues that may arise and explain how these issues will be resolved.
    (Week 6 – Research Proposal)

The following headings for the required sections and subsections must appear in the paper. In accordance with APA style, all references listed must be cited in the text of the paper.

  • Introduction
    • Introduce the research topic, explain why it is important, and present an appropriately and narrowly defined research question and/or hypothesis.
  • Literature Review
    • Evaluate the published research on the chosen topic including a minimum of three peer-reviewed articles. Summarize the current state of knowledge on the topic, making reference to the findings of previous research studies. Briefly mention the research methods that have previously been used to study the topic. State whether the proposed study is a replication of a previous study or a new approach employing methods that have not been used before. Be sure to properly cite all sources in APA style.
  • Methods
    • Design – Create a feasible research design that incorporates appropriate methods to address the topic. Indicate whether the approach of the proposed study is qualitative, quantitative, or mixed methods. Identify the specific research design, and indicate whether it is experimental or non-experimental. Evaluate the chosen design and explain why this design is feasible and appropriate for the topic and how it will provide the information needed to answer the research question. Cite sources on research methodology to support these choices. Include a minimum of two peer-reviewed sources.
    • Participants – Identify and describe the sampling strategy to be used to recruit participants for the study. Estimate the number of participants needed, and explain why this sampling method is appropriate for the research design and approach.
    • Procedure/Measures – Apply the scientific method by describing the steps to be taken in carrying out the study. Identify any test, questionnaire, or measurement instrument to be utilized. If an existing published instrument will be employed, briefly describe it and cite the source. If an original questionnaire, survey, or test will be created for the project, describe the types of information that will be collected with it and explain how the validity and reliability of the instrument will be established. If such an instrument will not be used, describe how the data will be collected for the study.
    • Data Analysis – Describe the statistical techniques (if quantitative) or the analysis procedure (if qualitative) to be used to analyze the data. Cite at least one peer-reviewed source on the chosen analysis technique.
    • Ethical Issues – Analyze the impact of ethical concerns on the proposed study, such as confidentiality, deception, informed consent, potential harm to participants, conflict of interest, IRB approval, etc. After analyzing the ethical issues that apply to the project, indicate what will be done to handle these concerns.
  • Conclusion
    • Briefly summarize the major points of the paper and reiterate why the proposed study is needed.
