You are a Human Resources Manager of an expanding technology company consisting of 170 employees that develops and distributes small electronic devices. Over the past two (2) years, a research group formed, designed, and built prototypes of small remote surveillance cameras used for security. Recently, your company won a contract to build and provide these remote surveillance cameras to various government agencies. The contract will begin with your company supplying these cameras to agencies within your home state. If all orders are fulfilled sufficiently, the contract will be expanded to supplying agencies outside of your home state.

For the immediate future, you will need to secure a larger facility and hire more staff to sustain the first part of the contract. You are a former certified education administrator who departed your former position to become the owner of a small, in-home day care consisting of you and a part-time assistant where you care for children from age three (3) to age ten (10). Over the course of time, your demographic population has increased due to significant business growth that has resulted in many families relocating to your area. With more businesses projected to move to the area and the building of new housing developments, it is projected that this growth could be long term.

You have decided that this is a good opportunity to expand your day care business as you have received many inquiries for childcare. In order to comply with your home state regulations, you will require a larger facility and will need to hire additional staff in order to sustain the larger demand for day care. This staff will consist of five (5) Certified Day Care Professionals, one (1) Registered Nurse Professional, five (5) After-School Assistants and one (1) Office Support Paraprofessional. primary intervention in disaster planning is the planning prior to the disaster (Davis, et al., 2010). In the case of the Haiti earthquake the disaster was present prior to the actual earthquake. The country was already stricken by poverty. This national poverty lead to infrastructure problems that were difficult for disaster response to overcome.

Managing the problem of impoverished nations infrastructure prior to a disaster would slow the progression of disease after disaster strikes. The healthcare needs of Haiti were not being met prior to the disaster. Hospitals were underfunded and when disaster struck the hospitals and medical facilities that were not built to be earthquake resistant were severely damaged. Funding of proper facilities and education of disaster planning of healthcare workers and the community would have gone a long way in easing the extent of the Haiti disaster.

Tertiary interventions directed at managing this disaster would be funding of programs to improve the economy and lessen the impact of poverty for Haiti. Once immediate healthcare needs are met, the process of rebuilding with a focus on overall improvement of economy so that it is sustainable for the future is needed.

There are many organization and charitable foundations involved in improving the economies and infrastructures of countries to lessen the overall impact of poverty. International Action is a charitable foundation that currently has a focus on bringing clean water to Haiti. They are building sustainable supply of clean water. The organization is working the local population to provide affordable clean water. I would choose to work with this organization because they are making an improvement in an infrastructure that improves health and safety of a basic necessity, clean water.

COMMENT 2

Primary prevention with patients who experienced the 2010 earthquake in Haiti, would focus on preventing disease from occurring. For Instance, the community health nurse could attempt to prevent patients from breathing in dust, and air contaminants by having them, and staff wear masks. Medical staffing was somewhat scarce, however staff available are to make sure to use universal precautions to ensure that patients are not exposed to illness, and disease, from other patients, by staff who did not take their time to wash their hands properly, and Don gown, and gloves when necessary.

An example of a Secondary Prevention, would be to require staff keep all patient wounds covered and clean. Patients that may have suffered injury, or loss of a limb would need proper wound care.  Although, water supplies were limited, making sure that patient wounds are cleaned with peroxide, or betadine, and keeping the wound covered with clean bandages so that patient’s wounds wont’s become infected. Also, if patients skin has been exposed to foreign objects (such a wood or nails) if the patient is not up to date on their shots they may need a tetanus shot or booster. Tertiary intervention would focus on reducing complications of disease. Patients that were suffering from Sepsis would need to be monitored closely, and treated with antibiotics or Patients with fever would be treated with antipyretics.

All three of the proposed interventions listed above fall under the Post Impact Phase. “The post impact phase has to parts, the emergency phase, and the recovery phase” (Mauer, & Smith, 2009 All the above listed interventions happened during the Post Impact Phase. The disaster had already occurred, and these are the steps to be taken after. In a disaster situation, I would work with organizations such as FEMA. FEMA’s (or the Federal Emergency Management Agency) “mission is to help people before, during, and after disasters” (FEMA, 2018)

Some patients develop the ulcers at the hospital before they come here; we try our best to take care of them, and I have explained to the families what we are doing. I think firing me is unfair, but it is your decision.” Before the new DON, James Osterwal, was hired for the job, Reba had mentioned to him that looking into the pressure ulcer problem would be his first priority. Reba arranged for James to attend meetings of the local chapter of a national quality improvement organization for nursing homes. Based on some of the information presented at the meetings, James quickly settled on making pressure ulcer elimination as his primary goal. James was quite familiar with the PDSA quality improvement cycle. He discussed it with the charge nurses, decided how data would be collected, and started a campaign asking all nursing staff to adopt the motto: “We will eliminate pressure ulcers at Lakeview.” The associates liked the motto because it gave them a specific goal to work toward. At James’ request, Reba approved hiring an RN nurse coordinator to float between the three shifts. The charge nurses asked their nursing assistants to report to them right away all cases of skin breakdown. James trained the nurses in best practice protocols to treat pressure ulcers. Complications of asthma can be sudden. Consider the case of Bradley Wilson, a young boy who had several medical conditions. In another case, 10-year-old Dynasty Reese, who had mild asthma, woke up in the middle of the night and ran to her grandfather’s bedroom to tell him she couldn’t breathe. By the time paramedics arrived, she had passed out and was pronounced dead at the hospital (Glissman, 2012). These situations continue to outline the importance of recognizing symptoms of asthma and providing immediate treatment, as well as distinguishing minor symptoms from serious, life-threatening symptoms. Since these symptoms and attacks are often induced by a trigger, as an advanced practice nurse, you must be able to help patients identify their triggers and recommend appropriate treatment options. The purpose of this assignment is to evaluate intimate couple relationships in your film of choice.  You will write on the film “Brown Sugar”.   You will be required to apply concepts, theories, and terminology from the textbook Intimate Relationships to conduct your evaluation.

Throughout this course, we will be thinking about the dynamics of intimate relationships, and learning what scientific research on intimate relationships has to teach us.  But science is not the only way to learn truths about relationships.  Although the science of relationships is relatively new, intimacy has been a theme in fiction for centuries.  The pioneering marital researcher Neil Jacobson suggested that scientific research has yet to catch up to the wisdom about relationships contained in the best fiction.

For this writing assignment, I am asking you to put Jacobson’s claim to the test.  The goal of the assignment is to apply what we have been learning in this course toward understanding a specific relationship as described in one of the films shown in class.   All of these films are great, and I encourage you to enjoy the entire collection.

Each of these films describes an intimate relationship, sometimes more than one.  Your assignment is to show what you have learned so far by applying the material of this course toward understanding a relationship in one of these films.  Once you have chosen one of these films to write about, you should include the title of the movie at the top of the first page of your paper, under your name and student ID number.  Then please use the exact four headings given below as the headings in your paper in the order they are given.

I.  Description:  [Provide the names of the two people in the relationship you will be writing about].  In one or two paragraphs, show that you have read the story by describing the relationship you are going to be writing about.  Do not describe the plot of the story!  Instead, use details of the story to tell us about the relationship at the heart of it.  You might want to mention the type of relationship (Married?  Dating), the level of commitment, whether the partners are satisfied or not, the qualities of the partners and their interactions.  Use details from the film, but do not plagiarize:  if you take words from the movie, put quotes around them.

II. What Brings or Keeps This Couple Together?  In this section of the paper, you are being asked to draw from theories we have studied in this course to identify and discuss the forces that bring or keep this couple together or bring the partners closer.  In even the worst relationships, there must be some attractive forces, or else the relationship would not exist.  What are those forces for this couple?  Identify as many as you can, referring to details in the story and keeping in mind the specific theoretical perspectives described in Chapter 3 of the textbook. You will be graded on:  1) how well you have integrated the material from the textbook and the story into your answer, 2) how completely and thoroughly you have answered the question.

III. What Pushes These Two People Apart?  This section is the flip side of the previous section.  Here you are being asked to analyze the forces that might make intimacy difficult for the couple and act to push the two partners apart.  Again, the goal is to show what you know from the course, so you should use details from the story and theories from the textbook to identify as many forces as you can.  The grading criteria are the same here as for the previous section.

IV. Predicting The Future.  Given what you know about relationships and about the couple described in the story, what do you think the future might hold for this couple?  What would have to happen for the relationship to improve or succeed?  Make a prediction, and justify it with details from the story and from the textbook.

This is not a typical APA paper, in that you will not be required to include an APA References page or in-text citations.  However, you will be required to submit your paper in APA format. This essay will be 5 full pages in length- no more, no less, or points will be deducted.
