Study in Gender Roles

Participant Observation: A Study in Gender Roles

(Study in Gender Roles)

Have you ever thought about how much of everyday life is organized by gender? When you stop to think about it, much of what most people do during the routine of a normal day is categorized as either masculine or feminine. From the soap you use for that morning shower to the restroom you use when are work, much of what we do is influenced — even dictated — by what society says is appropriate because of our biological sex.

To explore this concept of a gendered society in more depth, you will use the Participant Observation Checklist to organize and conduct your research to identify and explain two examples of how society is segmented by gender at any single location in your community. You might choose a park, a grocery store, your favorite pub or fast food restaurant, a department store, or the local hardware store. Remember that you should be acting in both the participant and observer roles. Look around to see if there are obvious signs that gender determines some aspect of how people act in that location. Then, use the structural functional theory to explain how separating events, actions, or even merchandize by gender works to keep the overall society stable.

For example, if you chose to observe as a casual shopper in department store, one obvious sign that gender is important in how the store is organized is that there are likely two different departments for women’s and men’s clothing. That same department store would likely have restrooms designated for ladies and gentlemen, too. The structural-functional perspective would suggest that separating the clothing by gender makes it more convenient for shoppers to find what they want, and separate restrooms for men and women are thought to be necessary for reasons of modesty that are part of stable cultural patterns of behavior within this society.

Instructions:

Complete the Participant Observation checklist to assist you with organizing your research and to take notes during your observation. Then, using your observation notes, write a paper that has these elements:

  • An introduction that explains the research conducted and the purpose of the paper
  • Detailed descriptions of the two observed instances in which gender influenced the actions of people in the real world. Be sure to address these questions: Who? What? Where? When?
  • An explanation that incorporates the structural-functional theory to explain how gender was at work to keep society orderly in the social setting that you chose.
  • A summary that restates the main points of the paper and suggests one lesson learned from the observation that is applicable to your own life in a gendered world.

Your paper should be between 4 and 5 pages, plus a title and reference page. You should include in-text citations in APA format for at least one academic source in addition to the course text. You should include the Participant Observation Checklist when you upload the Assignment into the Unit 4 Assignment Dropbox.

Personality Profile Papers

Personality Profile Papers or PPT Shows

(Personality Profile Papers)

NO PLAGARISM, PRICE IN NON NEGOTIABLE, DUE FRIDAY 4/15. PAPER LENGTH IS 4-5 PAGES NOT INCLUDING TITLE & REF. PAGE

Purpose. Apply these theories to your own personality! The study of personality can seem extremely abstract. Each theorist proposes different ways of measuring or documenting individual differences and intrapersonal processes. The purpose of this short paper is to give you hands-on experience with the concrete elements of various perspectives, so you can see and feel what each theorist is talking about.

Task. You will be introduced to concepts, vocabulary and measures of personality for each perspective we study. Practice using these ideas and words to see how they apply to YOU. Each time you do an assessment, you should note for yourself what the results mean regarding your personality.  The summaries will be useful in describing your personality from the perspective ofpsychodynamic theorists and trait theorists. NOTE: If you feel this is too personal an assignment, you may choose to write your personality profile on some famous person whose personality traits and functioning are known to the public. Please clear your choice with the instructor if you choose this alternate assignment.

Topics. In 4 to 5 pages, you will apply three different theories. You will only be able to cover selective elements of what you have learned about personality, so pick a few ideas to focus on from each of three perspectives. Topics you may choose to address in the papers are found throughout the syllabus and in each chapter of the text. In the end, you should describe your subject (yourself) through the eyes of at least three psychodynamic theories (theories covered in Chapters 1 through 6) for this assignment.

Use whichever theories seem applicable, pertinent, or appropriate within the broad school of thought. Review the terminology and “Personal Experiences” sections at the end of each chapter to identify some of the concepts you may apply to your own personality. Some examples are given below.

Process. Keep running notes each week about how your personality fits into each theory. Begin the paper or PPT with a BRIEF general introduction to the individual (you), then move smoothly into the first perspective you wish to take. Say which theory is being applied, and use the concepts from that theory, but do not waste time explaining the theory itself. Just put it to use describing yourself.

Use transition sentences to move from one theory to the next, making contrasts and comparisons between the various interpretations of your personality when possible. The paper should read smoothly from beginning to end, not as a series of disconnected one-paragraph essays. Type the paper with 1” margins, double spaced in a 12-point font, submitted as a Word document. Each paper should run about four to five pages or 12 to 15 PPT slides.

(Personality Profile Papers)

The paper or PowerPoint assessment is well done when it:

•clearly conveys a strong sense of the individual’s personality applies at least three different theories of personality, from 3 or more correctly identified theorists.

•uses assessments or application of terminology from each theory to explain personal characteristics is clearly written, with correct sentence structure, paragraph form, spelling, grammar and punctuation.

Examples – Here are some ideas, but you are by no means limited to these topics. Please choose the ideas from each theorists which are most applicable to your experience.

1. Freud – defense mechanisms, dream analysis, Oedipal conflicts, slips of the tongue (parapraxis), character type, transference in a relationship

2. Jung – favored personality functions, development of individuation, archetypes, balance of opposites, mystical dreams

3. Adler – birth order, social interest, evidence of striving for superiority, compensation

4. Horney – basic anxiety driving perfectionism

5. Fromm – social motivations and character type

6. Sullivan – needs for security and close relationships

7. Erikson – What dynamics are operating at this stage of life? How do biological imperatives and social demands interact to drive your psychological growth? How is generativity expressed in your life?

Evaluation. This assignment is worth 50 points. Papers and presentations will be graded on clear presentation and analysis, accurate reference to each theory used, correct use of terms and constructs, and good college-level writing, including grammar, punctuation, spelling, organization, and neatness. Late papers may be accepted for reduced credit, with permission in advance from the instructor.

Advanced Cryptography

  Advanced Cryptography

(Advanced Cryptography)

Advanced cryptography is a cornerstone of modern cybersecurity, employing sophisticated algorithms to secure data and communications. It goes beyond basic encryption to include techniques such as elliptic curve cryptography (ECC), which provides high security with shorter keys, making it efficient for devices with limited processing power. Quantum cryptography leverages principles of quantum mechanics, promising theoretically unbreakable encryption through quantum key distribution (QKD).

Homomorphic encryption is another cutting-edge method, allowing computations on encrypted data without needing to decrypt it, which is crucial for maintaining privacy in cloud computing. Zero-knowledge proofs enable one party to prove to another that a statement is true without revealing any other information, enhancing privacy and security in authentication processes.

Post-quantum cryptography is an emerging field addressing the potential threat posed by quantum computers, which could break many current encryption methods. This involves developing new algorithms that remain secure against quantum attacks, ensuring long-term data protection.

Blockchain technology employs cryptographic techniques to ensure the integrity and immutability of transaction records, supporting cryptocurrencies and other decentralized applications. Together, these advanced cryptographic methods are essential for protecting sensitive information in an increasingly digital and interconnected world

Respond Paper Ethics Of Buddhism

Respond Paper Ethics Of Buddhism

(Respond Paper Ethics Of Buddhism)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EDgd8LT9AL4&t=3s

https://www.accesstoinsight.org/tipitaka/kn/dhp/dhp.intro.budd.html

(1) After watching the documentary and reading the selections from the Dhammapada, you will write a short response paper addressing a topic in Buddhist Ethics. Below are some of the topics; select one:

–The Buddhist view on justice

–The Buddhist view on right and wrong/good and evil

–The Buddhist view on assisted suicide

–Buddhist ethics and the afterlife

–The Buddhist view on animal consumption (vegetarianism)

–Buddhist views on social justice

–Buddhist views on Death Penalty

–Buddhist views on abortion

(2) Select one of the above topics, and formulate a thesis concerning the topic.

(3) You will need to show how a Buddhist would address one of those philosophical topics based on the documentary/reading.

–Guidelines

(a) 3-4 pages

(b) double spaced

(c) times new roman

(d) 12 point font

(e) paper should not contain any quotes from the Dhammapada or secondary resources. You are not allowed to use secondary resources. Your entire paper will come from the documentary and reading. Use of secondary resources will result in point deductions.

Below is a suggestion for the structure of this paper in order to help you organise it properly

(i) Introduction (introduce ideas and thesis statement)

(a) Thesis Statement: a one sentence statement that clearly formulates the position you will argue in favour of. For example, “in this paper, I will argue that the Buddha would have been opposed to the death penalty”

(ii) Body Paragraph 1: discuss the particular ethical debate you are engaging with (i.e. death penalty, abortion, etc.)

(a) provide both sides of the debate. For example, if you are engaging with the abortion debate, you should show both sides of the debate and demonstrate how each side would argue.

(b) try to be neutral. Do not take a side, but demonstrate each side of the argument

(iii) Body Paragraph 2: show how you think the Buddha would have approached this topic

(a) Introduce some ideas from Buddhism that you learned from the documentary and reading.

(b) Demonstrate how it provides evidence for your thesis. For example, discuss the Buddha’s views on violence, and then demonstrate how this relates to your thesis (i.e. “the Buddha would have been opposed to abortion”, “the Buddha would have been opposed to death penalty” etc.)

(iv) Body Paragraph 3: provide an additional argument, that elaborates on the argument in Body Paragraph 2:

(a) explore the same topic, but from a different angle. For example, if you’re writing about the death penalty, discuss the Buddha’s views on justice in addition to violence to make an additional argument.

(v) Conclusion: draw some conclusions about how Buddhism helps reframe the ethical problem and sheds new light on its possible resolution. End the paper with a restatement of your thesis statement.

(a) demonstrate how Buddhism sheds new light on your topic. For example, if youre writing about the death penalty, write about how Buddhism can help strengthen the debate.

This is a speculative paper based on a unique engagement with the text.

Analyzing Nature Versus Nurture Influences

Analyzing Nature Versus Nurture Influences

(Analyzing Nature Versus Nurture Influences)

The nature versus nurture debate explores the relative contributions of genetic inheritance (nature) and environmental factors (nurture) to human development. Nature refers to the biological and genetic predispositions we inherit from our parents, influencing traits like eye color, height, and susceptibility to certain diseases. Nurture encompasses the external factors and experiences that shape us, such as upbringing, culture, education, and personal experiences.

Recent research highlights the interplay between these two forces. For instance, twin studies reveal that both genetics and environment significantly affect intelligence and personality, with heritability estimates suggesting that genes contribute to about 50% of the variation in these traits. Epigenetics further complicates the dichotomy by showing how environmental factors can modify gene expression without altering the DNA sequence, thus intertwining nature and nurture.

Additionally, critical periods in development, like early childhood, are especially sensitive to environmental influences, underscoring nurture’s role. However, genetic predispositions can also guide individuals towards particular environments, creating a dynamic interaction between our biology and experiences.

Ultimately, human development is best understood through a biopsychosocial model that acknowledges the complex, interdependent relationship between genetic and environmental factors, rather than viewing them as mutually exclusive influences.

Analyzing Nature Versus Nurture Influences

Compare and contrast your assigned readings regarding nature versus nurture with the information shared in the video Nature or Nurture from Science Channel. What did you find most interesting in the conversation? How do social and cultural environments impact newborns? Share any professional or personal observations that support your post.

Medicaid & The Middle Class

Medicaid & the Middle Class

(Medicaid & The Middle Class)

Medicaid, traditionally seen as a safety net for the impoverished, increasingly serves middle-class families, particularly through long-term care coverage for the elderly. While Medicaid covers a range of medical services, its long-term care benefits are crucial as private insurance often does not cover these costs and Medicare offers limited support. Middle-class families, facing high costs of nursing homes or in-home care, often spend down their assets to qualify for Medicaid. This process, known as “Medicaid spend-down,” can include transferring assets to family members or using legal strategies to reduce countable assets.

The implications of this trend are significant. It highlights the inadequacies in the U.S. healthcare system, particularly in financing long-term care, placing substantial financial and emotional burdens on middle-class families. Policymakers face the challenge of balancing Medicaid’s role as a safety net for the poor while addressing the needs of an aging population that spans socio-economic classes. Solutions such as expanding long-term care insurance options, increasing support for caregivers, and reforming Medicaid eligibility criteria are critical to prevent the middle class from depleting their life savings to afford necessary care. This evolving role of Medicaid underscores the need for comprehensive reforms in long-term care financing.

(Medicaid & The Middle Class)

Description: 2 Parts/Save in 1 document

Part I: Medicaid is not just for low-income people. The American middle class benefits significantly from the Medicaid program. In a 5 page synopsis, analyze a specific Medicaid program that seeks to benefit the middle class in the state in which you reside. Please keep in mind the position and facility you selected. Make sure to include the following:

  1. Discuss the purpose of the program.
  2. Describe whether the program is effective and offer evidence to support your rationale.
  3. Discuss other viewpoints or opposing viewpoints to the program.
  4. This portion of your assignment will require you to research and examine information from various sources. Use a minimum of five credible sources for your paper, with three being an academic source from the Rasmussen College Online Library (don’t forget to include in-text citations throughout your paper with paraphrasing or quoting)
  5. Make sure to include your APA formatted reference page.

Part II: It’s tough for healthcare professionals to keep up with all the programs offered through the government. Based on the position and facility you selected( Director of Admissions @ Rasmussen Region Hospital), create a one-page information sheet for our staff that they can use to answer questions.

  1. The information sheet should give your staff enough information to have an educated conversation with a patient about their healthcare coverage options through Medicaid.
  2. Make sure to use audience specific language and tone in your information sheet. Remember, you are writing this information sheet for your staff.
  3. Be creative and make your information sheet fun and organized.
