Collaborating With Human Services Professionals

Collaborating With Human Services Professionals

For this assignment, review the collaboration scenarios in the presentations Collaboration Scenarios – School Counselor Scatterdesk and Collaboration Scenarios – Mental Health Counselor Scatterdesk in this unit’s study, and select one of the scenarios.

Complete the following for the scenario you selected:

  • Describe how and with whom each of the professionals might collaborate to respond to legal or ethical issues described in the scenario. How does the quality of the interaction impact the service provided to the clients or students?
  • Describe the role and function each professional would serve in terms of assessing or responding to any of the legal or ethical issues that may arise when working with this client or student.
  • Imagine that you are the counselor working with this student or client, and you will be serving as the lead person to coordinate efforts among the team of professionals at this setting.
    • What are some ways in which you might initiate collaboration efforts to resolve the legal and ethical issues?
    • What methods will you use to communicate?
    • How will you know if these strategies are effective?
  • Include in your response references to at least two specific state laws and two specific codes from the 2014 ACA Code of Ethics and/or or the 2016 ASCA Ethical Standards for School Counselors that relate to your case.
  • Develop an effective communication to one of the professionals assisting your client:
    • For the student in the school counselor scenario: Compose a letter that you would send, with the student’s and his or her parents’ permission, to the school psychologist who will be seeing the student for an evaluation. In the letter, describe the reason for your referral, the relevant information you would like the psychologist to have about the student, and the information you would like to receive after the evaluation is completed. (You may need to make up some of the details about the student and your work with him.)
    • For the client in the mental health counselor scenario: You and the client agree she would meet with a new psychiatrist for an evaluation. Compose a letter that you would send, with the client’s permission, to the psychiatrist. In the letter, describe the reason for your referral, the relevant information you would like the psychiatrist to have about the client, and the information you would like to receive after the evaluation is completed. (You may need to make up some of the details about the client and your work with her.)

COLLABORATION SCENARIOS – MENTAL HEALTH COUNSELOR SCATTERDESK

Case Description Document

A community mental health center includes a licensed clinical social worker, a psychologist who provides testing and other assessments, a child therapist and a staff of five counselors. The center also has a relationship with a psychiatrist at a nearby Free Clinic. A 31-year-old single mother of three children (ages 9, 5 and 3), has been seeing her counselor for four months and has become increasingly anxious over the past weeks.

In the last few sessions she has disclosed that she feels frightened all of the time, is unable to sleep through the night, and worries that “something horrible is going to happen.” She admits to having a “couple of drinks” during the evening several times a week. She’s met with the social worker on two occasions to help her secure food stamps and get her children appointments at the local dental clinic.

The children are now meeting for play therapy sessions with the child therapist during the time the mother is seeing her own counselor. She had met with the psychologist for an initial visit, but has not returned to complete any of the testing. At the end of the last appointment, the client disclosed that was very worried that she’s a horrible mother and is afraid that her children will be taken away and placed in foster care.

Memo From Child Therapist

I wanted you to know that I’ve been working with this client’s children for three sessions and the mother has granted permission for you to see the notes of the last session. Let me know if you want to talk about it.

Notes From Child Therapist’s Session

Jane, age 9, Johnny, age 5, and Emma, age 3, met with me for their third counseling session. All children were dressed in clean clothing but Johnny was missing his socks and Emma’s shoes were falling apart. We spent the first half of the session working in the sand tray; the children then wanted to draw pictures. Themes that emerged for Jane centered on control and order; she appears to feel overly responsible for her siblings and very protective of her mother.

Johnny’s play included themes of “secrets” and “hiding” – he is wary in the room and reluctant to engage in spontaneous play. Emma is very shy and has not spoken more than a few words in each of the sessions. During this session she was very tearful, which I have not previously observed. I believe it would be useful to consult with Jane’s and Johnny’s teachers.

Note from another counselor at the clinic

Hi – I wanted to let you know that your client showed up during the week thinking she had an appointment with you. I spoke with her for about 20 minutes – she was very anxious about some things a neighbor had said to her – but calmed down during our meeting. She appeared to have been drinking. I told her that I’d let you know she had been here.

Note from Psychologist

The client has still not returned to complete the assessment battery. I’d like to rule out Bipolar Disorder and further evaluate what I believe to be either paranoid or delusional thinking. There may be some Personality Disorder features. Do you want me to write up a report now based on my meeting with her or should I wait until the full battery is complete?

Voicemail From Social Worker

Jane Greunke
This is Jane, the social worker. Your client called to ask if I could get her 3-year old girl enrolled in a day care program. She sounded very disoriented during the call. I’m considering asking Child Protective Services to evaluate the home. What do you think?

Preparedness And Response To Bioterrorism

There are different categories of weapons of mass effect—chemicals, biological pathogens and toxins, radioactive materials, nuclear devices, and nonconventional high-yield explosives. Out of these, biological weapons are used in a terrorism type called bioterrorism. According to the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), there are the six focus areas for preparedness and response to bioterrorism and other outbreaks that are detrimental to public health.

On the basis of your understanding of the topic of bioterrorism and our preparedness to handle the health services requirement during any such attack, answer the following questions:

· Which of the categories of weapons of mass effect is the healthcare industry most prepared to deal with? Why? Provide a factual basis for choosing the particular category of weapons. Which of these categories is the healthcare industry least prepared to deal with? Why?

· What are the six focus areas, for preparedness and response to bioterrorism and other outbreaks, covered in your course textbook? Are these focus areas still relevant? Why or why not?

· Research and explain the meaning of each focus area. Which focus area is the most important and why?

· Which focus area would be the most challenging? And why?

· Why is communication an important variable within calming fears and suppressing rumors?

Preparing for a bioterrorist attack presents unique challenges in the United States. There are no real wide-scale events you can study to prepare for a bioterrorist attack. In the absence of this experiential knowledge, training exercises are often used. Answer the following questions regarding the training exercises for preparation for bioterrorist attack:

· Why are training exercises important in planning for a bioterrorist attack? How would you use training exercises to help prepare the staff of a hospital from a bioterrorist attack?

· What are the benefits of real-life training scenarios involving multiple agencies?

· Using the Internet, research on Amtrak’s “Operation Rail Safe” program. Would hospitals and medical centers benefit from a program of this nature to aid in their preparation?

Triage is a process developed by the military to cope with large number of victims of combat or disaster situations. In many disaster situations, it becomes necessary to triage patients in order to assess their medical needs and decide how to allocate the resources and staff available to treat the incoming patients. Using the Internet, research on nerve agent “sarin” and answer the following questions in regard to the above process:

· What criteria would you use in the emergency room to triage patients with potential exposure to the nerve agent sarin?

· How would you classify the incoming patients when triaging them? Why?

You are the chief executive officer (CEO) of a major hospital. A bioterrorist attack just occurred in your city. The ICS has been activated. Despite the infusion of this additional money provided by the government after the event of September 11, 2001, to the healthcare industry, in an effort to prepare the industry for a possible bioterrorist attack, some people feel that the healthcare industry in US is still unprepared for a bioterrorist attack. As a CEO, you need to assess the situation and prepare your hospital to deal with the situation.

Answer the following questions keeping in mind the above information:

· Why is the use of an ICS in a hospital important when dealing with a bioterrorist attack? What are the most challenging issues associated with using an ICS in a hospital? Why?

· As a healthcare administrator, how would you allocate money and why? How prepared do you think the healthcare industry is to handle a bioterrorist attack? Why or why not?

Submission Details

· Your review should be of at least 7-page Microsoft Word document, not counting the cover page or the reference page.

· Support your responses with reasoning and examples.

Final project

Question description

In the Final Project for this course, you are to develop a reflective Ethical Autobiography, intended to define your ethical perspective as an emerging counselor in training.

In order to understand clearly where you are headed, you must also evaluate where you have been and what has influenced you along the way. It is important to reflect critically upon your own values (and sense of personal/professional ethics) and how you developed these perspectives in order to develop an ethical framework. To help accomplish this goal, the Final Project for this course is an Ethical Autobiography in which you will explore various elements of your life experiences that might influence your future ethical framework.

As you reflect on your journey through this class, some of the course readings may have informed your Ethical Autobiography. You can also make use of outside resources, but much of the paper will be exploring what you bring to the profession and events that may have influenced your ethical lens. This reflective autobiography should have personal meaning to you and should help you understand what being an ethical practitioner means. In this sense, you are writing an intellectual and Ethical Autobiography, that is, who you are as virtue of what you believe, what you do, and what you have read. Think broadly—there are no wrong answers; you are exploring your own world.

You may find the following article helpful, as you begin conceptualizing your Final Project:

  • Bashe, A., Anderson, S. K., Handelsman, M. M., & Klevansky, R. (2007). An acculturation model for ethics training: The ethics autobiography and beyond. Professional Psychology: Research and Practice, 38(1), 60–67.

For Your Consideration: (The points outlined below are intended as prompts for developing the essential elements of your Final Project).

Some examples of questions/issues that you can address:

  • You may share how you developed a sense of right and wrong.
  • Who/what influenced your moral and ethical development?
  • What experiences contributed to your personal and professional beliefs? Are your personal and professional beliefs congruent?
  • What is your idea of right and wrong? Are there absolutes or are there shades of gray? Do the same guidelines apply in all circumstances?
  • What are some of your basic values that guide your work and your life? What experiences have potentially influenced your decision making?
  • What aspects of your personality and work ethic are most compatible with the counseling field? Which aspects are the least compatible?
  • Was there a time, in your personal or professional life, when you felt that your confidentiality was violated, that you were involved in a dual relationship in which you felt uncomfortable, or perhaps an issue resonated unexpectedly with you (e.g., transference)?

Essential Elements (You must address the points outlined below in your Final Project.):

  • Select four counseling issues, describe these issues, and explain potential ethical challenges for addressing these issues in your professional practice.
  • Explain state or region laws or statutes that might apply to these ethical challenges.
  • Reference specific codes of ethics that you ascribe to for your practice and how adhering to ethics and law present challenges for addressing these issues you selected.
  • Explain why this Assignment is meaningful to you.
  • Describe how adhering to ethics and law for professional counseling practice might influence social change.
  • Finally, explain how you have changed because of your work in this class. Describe personal and ethical values you have reexamined because of your work in this course.

You should present your Final Project as a 12- to 15-page (including cover page, abstract, and references—therefore, approximately 10–12 pages of text), double-spaced, APA-formatted paper. Papers can be longer if the purpose of the paper is served, but the quality of ideas and conciseness of the writing should justify the extra length. Also, please proofread your papers to make sure that grammar, punctuation, and other mistakes do not hinder the communication of your ideas.

Your Instructor will evaluate your Final Project according to all four indicators in the Final Project Rubric, located in the Course Information area.

Furthermore, you will be evaluated on your ability to:

  • Develop your ability to think about, use, and integrate what you have read. You should go beyond just a summary of what you have read. You should also be well balanced in your arguments, and go beyond the obvious (e.g., “we should be aware of ethical issues and follow the ACA Code”) into specifics, gray areas, and more subtle questions.
  • Demonstrate that you have learned something from this course on ethical decision making.
  • Clearly communicate your reflective thinking.

You can find information on scholarly writing in the APA Publication Manual and at the WaldenU Writing Center website.

Although you do not submit your Final Project until Day 4, you should become familiar with the project requirements and have them in mind as you proceed through the course. Many of the Discussions and Application Assignments relate to and can be of use to you in writing your Final Project.

Personal Mission Statement

Writing a personal mission statement offers the opportunity to establish what’s important in your professional life. A personal mission statement is often an integral part of a job or graduate-level application as it provides reviewers with insights into an applicant’s strengths in, and philosophies regarding, the discipline.  The personal mission statement includes a description of your focus and goals, which can serve to provide direction for the next one to five years of your career. It can be used not only as a guide, but also as a tool of conscious reflection encouraging you to accomplish your professional objectives.  In the course of this assignment, you will evaluate potential career direction and satisfaction by reflecting on the following questions: •What do you hope to accomplish in the profession? •What positive and unique qualities do you bring to the profession? •How do you see your role in the profession evolving through time? •Why is the work you hope to do important?  Your Personal Mission Statement should be a minimum of 500 words, but it should not exceed 1000 words. Therefore, it is important that your writing be clear and concise and that your thoughts and philosophies are effectively communicated to your reader.  The Personal Mission Statement •Must be 500 words to 1000 words in length and formatted according to APA style as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center. •Must include a header on each page with the following: ◦Personal Mission Statement ◦Student’s name ◦Student’s contact email ◦Date submitted •Must address the topic of the mission statement with critical thought. •Must document all sources in APA style as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center.

Homework Assignment

Gender Identity

We are socialized at every stage in life to conform to our gender identity. Societal reinforcement of tendencies of gender identity is relentless. For example, in hospitals, little girls are wrapped in pink and little boys in blue. This difference in colors influences how we learn and how we internalize our role in our society.

Girls tend to grow up to play feminine roles and boys tend to grow up to play masculine roles. This differentiation of gender identity has implications in social stratification. The videos given below will provide you with a better understanding of the differentiation of sexual identity from an earlier generation.

Search for and watch an episode of at least one of the following shows. You may find these videos using a variety of search methods including visiting your local library, using Netflix or your local video store, or searching on YouTube. If you have difficulty locating an episode of one of the following shows, contact your instructor for assistance in finding an alternative.

  • I Love Lucy
  • All in the Family
  • The Mickey Mouse Club
  • The Honeymooners
  • Leave it to Beaver
  • Father Knows Best
  • Gilligan’s Island
  • The Brady Bunch
  • I Dream of Jeannie

As you watch the video, ask yourself the following questions:

  • To what extent have things changed and to what extent have they remained the same in regards to gender roles, expectations, division, and identity from the time this show was originally popular and today?
  • How conscious and sensitive are the characters regarding gender prejudice, power inequality, and subordination?
  • Did they take inequality of the sexes for granted?

Based on your readings and understanding that you have gathered after watching the above-noted video, write a short biographical description of your life if you were to wake up tomorrow morning in the time period of the video you watched and find you have a different gender identity. Write a description of how you lived your life a day after your hypothetical change in gender as you answer the following questions:

  • Discuss how you would react on finding out that your sex is opposite. Would you feel a sense of relief, indifference, or elation? Why?
  • Discuss three ways your attitude towards the opposite sex was enlightened or would change as a result of what you learned from this project.  If you would not change your attitude, why?
  • Write down the ideas and attitudes you have taken for granted a member of your actual gender. Consider how your roles at home and in the office would change if you were a member of the opposite gender.
  • Relate the ideas of sexism and racism to the videos.  How do you think sexism and racism have changed since the 1950s?

Discussion- balanced scorecard

Question description

Consider the four key perspectives of a balanced scorecard applied to your Capsim competition: (1) the learning and growth perspective, (2) the business process perspective, (3) the customer perspective, and (4) the financial perspective. Then respond to the following:

  • Provide an overview of an organization you are familiar with or one that you researched. Include in your overview statistics that describe the organization, such as its product/service, size, and number of employees.
  • Discuss whether the four key perspectives are relevant to that organization.
  • How can you utilize the four key perspectives to analyze and improve your Capsim simulation rounds?

CAPSIM INFO:

Throughout this course, students will participate in the “Capsim Core” business simulation. This is a team-based simulation that provides students the opportunity to lead a company in a team environment and drive all the functional tactics and short-term decisions toward long-term strategy. The simulation’s objectives include exercising collaborative skills that are vital in the business world and applying theory to practice through integrated decision-making. The Capsim Core content is integrated into this course’s Discussion Questions, Critical Thinking Assignments, and the Portfolio Project.

This course presents an examination of the strategies for success in the competitive environment of global organizations. Specifically, the course provides an analysis of the internal and external environment, the roles and responsibilities of leaders in developing and implementing strategy, and the practical application of
evaluating the outcomes for that strategy. The entire strategic process is studied from its inception of identifying objectives, values and vision, through functional tactics and short-term objectives, to finally achieving ultimate, long-term goals. This course also incorporates business journal and case study readings with assignment activities that require critical analysis, while encouraging students to apply strategic models in addressing business decisions. In the final portfolio project, students demonstrate ability to synthesize the decision-making process learned during the application of the simulation experience and other course materials.

Intro To Psychology 105- Assignment 1: Retrospective Analysis Of Personality

*Must be original*****                 ( Turn it-in is used )

Assignment 1: Retrospective Analysis of Personality

In this assignment, begin by taking a retrospective look at your life history, to discuss which aspects of your personality have remained consistent and which aspects of your personality have changed over time. Then, analyze the roles of nature and nurture in shaping your personality. Subsequently, discuss possible sources of inaccuracy and bias in any retrospective analysis. Finally, discuss the reasons why systematic scientific studies are considered more valuable than individual accounts.

Write a three  (3) page paper in which you:

  1. Reflect on your life history and discuss which aspects of your personality have changed over time and which aspects have stayed consistent.
  2. Based on your retrospective analysis, describe the roles of nature and nurture in shaping your personality. Reflect on your justification for distinguishing between nature and nurture.

review and correct these two works

Question description

Hi, this is the initial question for the paper I wrote and submitted which the instructor rejected :

Quantitative Annotated Bibliography

In this week’s discussion question you were asked to consider a potential problem (appropriate to your role option) that you would like to investigate through nursing research. For this assignment you will review current research from South’s Online Library and provide a critical evaluation on that research through an annotated bibliography. An annotated bibliography is a brief summary and analysis of the journal article reviewed. For more information on annotated bibliographies please visit Purdue’s OWL: Purdue Online Writing Lab

A total of two annotated bibliographies are to be submitted (not to exceed one page each). The articles must come from nursing scholarly literature and may not be older than 5 years since publication. Please note that the articles must be research based and reflect a quantitative methodology (review our reading assignments). Web pages, magazines, textbooks, and other books are not acceptable.

Each annotation must address the following critical elements:

  • Explanation of the main purpose and scope of the cited work
  • Brief description of the research conducted
  • Value and significance of the work (e.g., study’s findings, scope of the research project) as a contribution to the subject under consideration
  • Possible shortcomings or bias in the work
  • Conclusions or observations reached by the author
  • Summary as to why this research lends evidence to support the potential problem identified specific to your role

Then the instructor replied this :

Hi,

Your paper is not acceptable. Review the announcement about the annotated bibliographies. You need to use headings to organize your paper.

Now below is the instruction for the annotated bibliography:

Instructions for Annotated Bibliographies
Hello Class

For the annotated bibliographies, you need to use each “critical element” as a heading to organize your paper.
Also, note in the instructions that each annotated bibliography can only be one page.

Below please find headings you should use with a brief explanation about the content that should go with each heading (critical element).

The purpose of asking you to use the critical elements as headings is to ensure you don’t miss any part of the annotated bibliography..

Each heading below is in bold print. Each heading should be centered on your page.

The content under each heading (critical element) does not have to be long. Be succinct. And, avoid words like “this, that, these those, in order to). If you don’t need the word in the sentence, don’t use it.

Remember, this week you are to search for quantitative studies.

Please let me know if you have questions.

Discussion – Week 6

In early 2005, the Corporation for National and Community Service conducted the Youth Volunteering and Civic Engagement Survey in which they explored the connections between youth volunteering and the primary social institutions to which teenagers are exposed– family, schools, and religious congregation. Among other findings, the research analysis shows that:

  • 74 percent of youth who volunteer do so at least in part through a religious organization, a school-based group, or a youth leadership organization such as Scouts or 4H, while 64 percent do so primarily through one of those three institutions.
  • Students who volunteer do better in school than their counterparts who don’t volunteer.
  • A youth from a family where at least one parent volunteers is almost twice as likely to volunteer as a youth with no family members who volunteer, and is nearly three times as likely to volunteer on a regular basis.
  • Among youth who attend religious services regularly, 64 percent also volunteer.

Source: The Corporation for National and Community Service (2008). Retrieved from www.nationalservice.gov

The above scientific research demonstrates a relationship between certain social institutions (family, religion, and school) and youth volunteering. As agents of socialization, these social institutions help teenagers experience the value in helping others, and in the process give them an opportunity to learn to interact with their community. In this Discussion, you will choose a social institution and create the foundation for a scientific study on the institutions’ role in socialization by applying the steps of the scientific method

To prepare for this Discussion:

  • Review the appropriate pages in the course textbook on your chosen social institution; pages 296 – 318 on the family, pages 322 – 351 on religion, pages 339 – 351 on education, pages 356 – 365 on the economy, or pages 365 – 380 on the government.
  • Review pages 29 – 34 on the basic steps of the scientific method.
  • Consider how different your life would be if institutions were not part of the social structure of your society.
  • Reflect on how your chosen social institution shapes the values and beliefs of your society.

With these thoughts in mind:

Post by Day 3 a response in which you do the following:

  • Select one of the social institutions of interest to you (i.e., family, religion, education, or government) and briefly describe how this social institution contributes to the transmission of society’s values.
  • Choose an aspect of this social institution that might make for a research study that helps with the fundamental understanding of the process of socialization. How would this study contribute to the good of society?
  • Describe the steps of the scientific method in your study.

Be sure to support your ideas by connecting them to the week’s Learning Resources, or something you have read, heard, seen, or experienced.

2 Part Presentation

Final Project

The final project includes both a 10 – 12 page paper (not including title page or references section) and a PowerPoint presentation with 8 slides of content.  Utilizing independent research and course materials, compose a paper with two sections.

Paper, Section 1.

The first section (5-6 pages) is to be a compare/contrast essay where you illustrate the similarities and differences in organizational components, actions, and attributes promoting a healthy culture and organizational components, actions, and attributes not promoting a healthy culture. What role does leadership have in transforming workplace culture to promote a healthy organization? Even though leadership has brought a heightened awareness of how to deal with mental health issues in the workplace and set the stage for a healthy organizational culture, disorders and problems will still occur.

Paper, Section 2.

For the second section of your paper (5-6 pages), reflect on and provide a synopsis for five of the following issues or disorders. Include ethical and legal considerations leaders may need to consider during the transformation of organizational culture.

  • Job Stress and Health
  • Work/Family Conflict
  • Depression
  • Bipolar Disorder
  • Generalized Anxiety Disorder
  • Social Anxiety Disorder
  • Specific Phobias
  • Panic Disorder
  • PTSD
  • Schizophrenia
  • Antisocial Personality Disorder
  • Borderline Personality Disorder
  • Eating Disorder
  • Traumatic Brain Injury
  • Insomnia
  • Substance Abuse
  • Social Dysfunction
  • Violence
  • Passive-aggressive Behavior

For each issue/disorder you selected, indicate what behaviors call attention to the potential disorder or issue, as well as possible interventions and treatments for each disorder/issue. Explain how you personally will deal differently with these issues in the workplace than you would have before this class. Support your ideas with at least one scholarly source for each disorder or issue.

PowerPoint presentation.

Next, imagine that you are presenting the results of your paper to a class of college students who are learning about psychopathology in the workplace. Create an 8-slide PowerPoint presentation (not including title slide or references slide) that highlights the key concepts of your paper. Incorporate at least 100 words of speaker notes for each content slide.
