Counseling in Law Enforcement

Part 1: Counseling and Psychotherapy in Law Enforcement Agencies

This assignment encourages you to examine how the therapy process might be different in a law enforcement setting. You will examine some of the unique aspects of working with law enforcement and in a primarily male-dominated field.

Using the module’s readings and online library resources, research issues involved in working in a primarily male-dominated field that has also been historically suspicious of seeking mental healthcare.

In a minimum of 300 words, respond to the following:

  • How and in what ways is the provision of counseling in a law enforcement setting different from that in a community setting?
  • In what ways should the approach to counseling an officer be different from that of counseling an individual in the community?
  • What ethnic and diversity issues might be present?
  • What are some of the issues related to the field being male-dominated that you might address in therapy?

Part 2: Suicide Prevention Plan

For professionals involved in evaluating and counseling law enforcement professionals, the issue of suicide assessment and prevention is important to consider. This part of the assignment will help you learn more about the increasing problem of police officer suicides.

Scenario:

You are the clinical director of a mental health facility that provides psychological services to several police departments and sheriff’s departments. There have been five police officer suicides in the past three years in your area. You have been asked to research the issue and create a suicide prevention plan that will support both large and small departments. You will research other suicide prevention plans and examine what they comprise. You will incorporate these successful interventions into your plan. Consider your audience—larger groups or individuals—and analyze the obstacles to implementing a suicide prevention plan.

Using the module’s readings and online library resources, research factors contributing to such suicides. Ensure that you research statistical information.

Respond to the following:

  • What are the statistics and research on police officer suicide?
  • How many departments have suicide prevention programs?
  • What would you include as part of your suicide prevention plan?

Support your responses giving reasons and examples from scholarly resources.

Assignment3: Mystical Experiences

Assignment3: Mystical Experiences

(Assignment3: Mystical Experiences)

Without exception, all religions revere mystics and teachers who have had personal experiences of God beyond the ordinary, everyday reality. Such personal experience of God is called the mystical experience. The word mystical is derived from the Greek muo, meaning to conceal. In a sense, the real manifestation of God is concealed from all but the mystics.

Every religion acknowledges mystics who have reported such direct experience of an indescribable, overpowering reality of God, which cannot be named or spoken of in ordinary terms. Other religions refer to wise men that are adept at detaching themselves from the real world, called sages (Hindu and Buddhism).

The fact that these experiences, as reported, share a certain similarity across cultural and religious boundaries has led some philosophers of religion to speculate whether they may be, in fact, the same experience. Perhaps all religions share a common mystical core at their center. The difference between viewpoints has to do with whether a relationship with a personal god exists.

As used in this course, the term mystic means a person claiming direct experience with God (monotheism) or the Ultimate Reality (Hinduism). Mysticism, in this sense, has nothing to do with crystal balls, tarot cards, Ouija boards, magic, or superstition of any kind. Rather, it is the hidden heart of a major religious tradition.

Please complete an essay of approximately 500 words in length addressing the following questions. Please be sure to include at least one reference with your assignment and use correct APA format for your citations and paper layout.

  1. Define and describe a mystical experience as understood within philosophy or one of the five religions we study in this course.
  2. Mystical experiences are usually life changing to those who experience them. Describe the positive and/or negative experiences of a mystic from the religion you chose in the first question.
  3. What sort of life style is conducive to mystical experiences? Is this kind of life style common in the United States of America? Does the relationship between life style and mystical experiences strengthen or weaken claims of mystical experience?
  4. Are mystical experiences real encounters with the divine, or is something else going on? If real, how so? If something else, what else?

Your response should be at least two pages long. All written assignments and responses should follow APA rules for attributing sources.

Assignment3: Mystical Experiences

Transformational Leadership in Healthcare

Transformational Leadership in Healthcare

(Transformational Leadership in Healthcare)

Change Leadership: Risk Management, Safety, & Environment

Youngberg (2011) conveys the transformation needed for effective  health care quality, risk management, and regulatory compliance on  behalf of health care leaders following the release of IOM reports (p.  293). The author stresses the importance of learning from other  industries, constructing high reliability organizations (p. 294),  developing trust and transparency (p. 296), promoting justice and  accountability (p.298), and committing to a culture of safety (p. 300);  additionally, Youngberg emphasizes the new principles for high  reliability-high performing health care organizations (p. 302).

In your initial post to this discussion:

  • Describe how transformational leaders can initiate change that  involves one or more of the concepts discussed in this unit’s readings.
  • Provide additional insights relating to leadership within the changing environment of the health care industry.
  • Include a minimum of two peer-reviewed, current journal articles in your discussion of insights.

In your initial post, include APA-formatted in-text citations and accompanying, congruent APA-formatted references.

Response Guidelines

Respond to the posts of other learners according to the Faculty  Expectations Response Guidelines. If possible, respond to one learner  who has a perspective, background, or goals that are similar to yours,  and to one learner whose perspective, background, or goals are  different. Peer responses should be substantive, and need to include one  peer-reviewed source that aligns with the discussion thread. You may  feel free to add an additional source that is new or provides a  completely different perspective. “I agree” and “Thanks for sharing your  insights” are examples of responses that do not contribute content for  enhanced learning, and are not acceptable. The goal is quality,  substantive feedback that demonstrates higher-order critical thinking  and evaluation of peers’ initial posts.

Ethical Case Study Analysis

Ethical Case Study Analysis

(Ethical Case Study Analysis)

Materials Needed:

Case Study:

James is a community counseling student who is interning with the College Counseling Center at the local university. James is a 25 year-old Caucasian male, who attended a private high school in a small rural town. In terms of being a counselor, James admits that one of his challenges is that he has not experienced much diversity in his relationships. He states that this is not a significant issue because he plans on opening a private practice in his hometown as soon as he graduates. Since he knows the town he doesn’t feel that this is a big deal. Also, in terms of finding clients, James states that he is sure he will be able to get referrals because his father works for the town newspaper and will run an ad as soon as he moves home.

James admits he has no clinical experience but is pleased, upon arriving at his internship site, to see that his ex-girlfriend is going to be his assigned clinical supervisor. Since they have not seen each other in years, James figures that meeting once a week will give them a good opportunity to catch up on old times. James also figures that she could continue to supervise him in private practice until he receives his license. James is relieved because he knows she wont mind, since he will be graduating in nine months, if he puts her credential, Licensed Professional Counselor, after his name since she is supervising him.

After discussing private practice, James asks his ex-girlfriend if he can begin to see clients right away because he is anxious to get experience and begin working on his practice. Since she figured he would be a pretty good counselor, she agreed and paired him up with Lisa, a 21 year-old Latina female.

During the first session, James was running late and was unable to fully cover all of the intake documents with Lisa. He put them aside and said, We dont really need to review these. It is just paperwork required by the Center. Please sign here.As the counseling session continued, James thought he might have recognized symptoms associated with depression including decreased motivation, loss of appetite and overall dissatisfaction. He thought about bringing these up with his supervisor but forgot once he left the session.

James continued to meet with Lisa. The first few sessions focused mainly on her recent break-up with her boyfriend and the resulting academic difficulties. She was very concerned that her career dream of becoming a lawyer may be in jeopardy.

In the third session, Lisa casually mentioned that she began to experience depressive symptoms as a child when her mother’s partner began to physically abuse her at the age of 5½ years. Lisa told her mother about the abuse, but she did not intervene. Shortly after the physical abuse began, the man began to also sexually abuse her. Once again, Lisa reported this to her mother and also to a teacher at her school, but nothing was ever done. Lisa reported that when she was 7, she placed an unknown prescription medication of her mother’s into this man’s alcoholic drink. Later that same day, the man experienced a stroke and was rushed to the hospital where he later died. Lisa also reported learning that her mother’s partner’s stroke and subsequent death were related to the combination of prescription medication and alcohol. The client has never told anyone other than James that she had placed medication in this man’s drink.

Health Promotion Program Design

Health Promotion Program Design

(Health Promotion Program Design)

Designing an effective health promotion program requires a comprehensive and strategic approach to address specific health needs within a community. The initial step is conducting a thorough needs assessment to identify the key health issues, risk factors, and target population. This involves collecting and analyzing data from various sources, including surveys, focus groups, and public health records.

Next, setting clear, measurable objectives is crucial. These objectives should align with the overarching goals of improving health outcomes and reducing health disparities. The program should incorporate evidence-based interventions tailored to the target population’s needs and cultural context.

Community engagement is vital for the program’s success. Involving community members in the planning and implementation phases ensures that the program is relevant, culturally sensitive, and more likely to be accepted and sustained. Additionally, forming partnerships with local organizations, healthcare providers, and stakeholders can enhance resources and support.

Effective health promotion programs also require a robust evaluation framework to monitor progress and outcomes. This involves setting up mechanisms for regular data collection, analysis, and feedback to make necessary adjustments. Finally, securing sustainable funding and resources is essential to ensure the program’s longevity and continuous impact on community health.

In this assignment, you will expand on ideas for diabetes management by writing a comprehensive, holistic plan of health promotion and disease prevention that addresses the needs of individuals in the Latino population. First, identify the best health care promotion theory (Pender’s health promotion model) and best practices to use with your chosen population. Next, explain your health promotion plan and describe how it will be implemented, evaluated, and monitored.

Include the following components in your assignment:

1. Justify, based on researched evidence, the best health care promotion theory, practices and approaches to health care promotion, addressing the identified health care concerns in your chosen population.

2. Discern how the holistic health promotion plan will promote quality patient outcomes and cost-effective health care.

3. Describe the strategy for implementing the health promotion plan.

4. Explain how you will monitor and evaluate the plan for quality improvement.

5. Explain how the plan would affect and be adapted in at least two different health care delivery settings, such as acute care settings, ambulatory care settings, managed and integrated care settings, or other settings.

CASE Study: Chapter 19 (Solved)

CASE Study: Chapter 19 (Solved)

Question description

Last month you were hired with the title Chief Health Informatics Specialist at an independent community care hospital with 350 beds. The hospital includes a comprehensive outpatient clinic, a rehabilitation center with both impatient and outpatient services a cardiac care center, and an emergency room. In addition, four family health centers are located throughout the community. More than 930 primary care and specialty physicians are associated with the hospital, which has a staff of just over 2000 employees. The hospital is moving ahead with installing an HER system following the Meaningful Use criteria. (CASE Study: Chapter 19 (Solved))

The hospital has a working relationship with a major academic medical center located 23 miles aay. Acute care patients who need more extensive treatment are usually transferred to the medical center. These are often emergency situations and data are freely shared between institutions with the best interests of the patient in mind.

Located directly beside the hospital is a 194-bed skilled nursing home. While the nursing home has its own medical staff consisting of a physician and two nurse practitioners, patients needing consults or additional care are usually seen at the hospital with follow-up at physician’s offices. While the nursing home, most of the physicians’ offices, and the hospital are independent institutions there is a long history of sharing health relate data when treating patients who live at the nursing home and are seen at the hospital or in the physicians’ offices. This coordination has been a general benefit for a number of patients. It appears that most patients have signed a form giving the hospital permission to send information to the nursing homes. However, these forms have been stored in individual offices so it is difficult to determine who has signed what forms and what permission has or has not been given to share information between the nursing home, hospital and independent medical practices.

Chapter 19

  • Describe: What additional information is needed to clarify what problems may exist, and what changes may be needed in terms of shared data between the institutions?
  • Examine: Can the EHR system currently being installed be used to share data between these institutions more effectively and securely? If yes, how would this be done?
  • Compile: In your position as Chief Health Informatics Specialist, how would you go about determining whether there are other potential security issues that now need to be managed by the hospital?

Case Study Chapter 21

A tertiary care center in the western U.S. has an installed base of electronic health records supported by Cerner Corporation for inpatient areas and by EPIC for outpatient areas. Other technology includes a suite of about 300 different applications supported by the IT department. The current environment, while including robust capabilities such as computerized provider order entry, is siloed with information. Healthcare providers complain that they have difficulty obtaining the big picture of the patient across systems and they have to remember information located in disparatesystemsThey are burdened with integrating information themselves. Not only is this time consuming, it is potentially prone to error. Providers have developed numerous work-arounds to the different systems in ambulatory and inpatient areas, including shadow files for patients they see frequently. Nurses complain that they have to jump around the inpatient system to find information they need for activities such as patient hand-offs. (CASE Study: Chapter 19 (Solved))

The organization responds by developing a vision for the future that centered on the concept of knowledge management (KM). This concept is defined as the systematic process of identifying, capturing, and transferring information and knowledge that people can use to create, compete (with other organizations), and improve. A crucial aspect of KM is improving the user experience. As the leaders in the organization begin to address KM and improve the user experience, they are employing the same tactics described in this chapter

Chapter 21

  • Describe: Assume you are the leader of the KM effort. Where would you start to improve the user experience?
  • Examine: Pharmacists supporting the ICUs are asking for your help to improve their situation (their user experience) because they are forced to use nonintegrated systems. What methods would you use to examine the issue?
  • Compile: The institution is in the process of purchasing new physiologic monitors for their step-down unit. Describe how usability should be incorporated as part of the purchasing process. Design a brief usability test to support the purchasing process

Research Proposal (Solved)

Research Proposal (Solved)

The written research proposal will be created based on a narrowly defined aspect of the topic selected in Week One. A research proposal is a detailed plan for a specific study to be conducted at a future time. It is the document which potential researchers typically submit to an institutional review board (IRB) for ethical review and approval, and/or to funding agencies to secure financial support for a research effort. Because it is a plan for research which has not yet been conducted, the Methods section should be written in the future tense and should not contain any hypothetical results. The paper must address all of the components required in the Methods section of a research proposal. The following actions must be completed (Research Proposal (Solved)).

  • State the research question and/or hypothesis.
  • Briefly compare the characteristics of the major research paradigms used in previous studies on the chosen topic. Introduce the specific approach (qualitative, quantitative, or mixed methods), research design, sampling strategy, data collection procedures, and data analysis techniques to be used in this study. Provide a short explanation as to why the selected procedures are more feasible than other alternatives for the research topic.
  • Describe any relevant variables, measures, and statistical tests.
  • Apply ethical principles and professional standards to the proposed psychological research. Provide an analysis of any ethical issues that may arise and explain how these issues will be resolved.
