(Professional Capstone & Practicum Documentation)

Professional Capstone & Practicum Documentation encapsulates the culmination of practical and academic learning, showcasing a comprehensive project that addresses real-world issues within a specific field. It includes detailed project proposals, methodologies, data analyses, and reflective evaluations. The documentation highlights problem-solving skills, application of theoretical knowledge, and professional development. It serves as a tangible proof of competency, readiness for professional practice, and a critical milestone in one’s educational journey, integrating classroom knowledge with hands-on experience.

Question description

The Professional Capstone and Practicum course requires students to select a course mentor. This mentor is not a preceptor, but an individual who will guide students as they work to complete the practice immersion hour requirements for this course. Students are not required to “shadow” their mentor.

The course mentor should be someone who can provide professional development knowledge and guidance and who possesses a genuine interest in working with students to further their academic goals.

Selection, approval, and retention of a course mentor must be completed as soon as possible at the start of this course, as this individual will be working with the student on each assignment that incorporates practice immersion hours. Working with a course mentor is mandatory.

Once a course mentor has agreed to serve in the role, you must complete and submit the following required documentation so that practice experiences can begin in a timely manner:

  1. Field Experience Site Information Form
  2. Qualified Mentor/Preceptor Summary Form
  3. Mentor’s license, certification, and resume/curriculum vitae

The student is responsible for obtaining all signatures for the paperwork submission. Course faculty will approve all sites and mentors according to student learning needs and specific course objectives.

Do not initiate new work on practice-immersion-hour-based course assignments until your course instructor has approved your course mentor.

Once a course mentor is approved, students should contact the mentor within 1 week of receiving the approval notification. Students are encouraged to make an appointment to meet with their mentor in person and arrange to review the NRS-490 course objectives and the Individual Success Plan (ISP).

Conducting a Job Search.

Conducting a Job Search.

(Conducting a Job Search.)

An undergraduate psychology degree provides you with some flexibility when selecting a career. The knowledge of how people think, develop, and behave, as well as the interpersonal skills gained from a BA in psychology may lead to work in the field, but also prepares you well for careers in the fields of public service, marketing, or management, among others. Because most professional careers in psychology require further education, those who do not wish to pursue graduate degrees may need to broaden the scope of careers they are willing to consider.

In M1 Assignment 2, you explored your career interests and identified three careers that seemed best suited for you. In this assignment, you will conduct a mock job search and report your findings using the “Job Search Data Bank” form.

Mock Job Search

Select one of the three careers you identified and discussed in M1 Assignment 2 and conduct a job search for actual openings in your area. If you are willing to eventually relocate, you may choose openings elsewhere as well. You may choose to use at least one source or all of the following sources to find available positions in your chosen career of interest:

  • Local newspaper ads (online or printed editions)
  • Networking websites such as LinkedIn
  • Networking with colleagues, peers, or other contacts
  • Your state employment office
  • Listings on professional organizations’ websites

Refer to the Job Resources document to find additional online sources relating to online job searches.

Job Search Data Bank

Download and review a copy of the Job Search Data Bank template. Provide the results of the mock job search you completed for this assignment by filling out the table in the template.

  • Begin by summarizing your career interests. Briefly describe what you concluded from Module 1 about the types of positions best suited to your career interests. For example, if you are most interested in a career as a psychologist, would you prefer to pursue a position in a clinic, a private practice, or a nonprofit organization? Would you prefer to specialize in working with children? Do you hope to have a research or teaching position instead?
  • List at least four positions you found during your job search. These four positions should match the interests you identified in Module 1.
    • Describe each position fully, providing as much of the available information as possible from the ads. Copy the ads and paste them into the table.
  • For each identified job opening, indicate the likelihood of your being eligible for the position upon graduating from college with a bachelor’s degree.
    • If you would be ineligible, specify what additional training or education you would require to qualify for the position.
    • Indicate whether you are willing to pursue that additional training or education.
    • Describe the amount of time, the cost, and other resources you think you would need to invest to become qualified.
  • Put the information in your own words. Place quotation marks around the portions you have quoted from the ads. Cite your sources using APA style in-text citations and a reference list in APA style below your table in the “Job Search Data Bank” template provided.

The results from the six interest profiles were as follows:

  1. Realistic 19
  2. Investigative 30
  3. Artistic 15
  4. Social 30
  5. Enterprising 37
  6. Convectional 36

I have an interest of enterprising jobs and this may include the selling of new merchandise or also the development of new products for use by the public. I believe that enterprising jobs are very profitable, in this case there is no fixed salary and the salary mainly depends on the product being sold. Moreover, there are no special skills needed or any specific knowledge. However, one should be able to produce goods or services that reflect a specific market. Additionally, I also find social work interesting since one can be able to work with different people and also one can be able to work under different situations. Social works requires one to be able to interact with people and be willing to work on different aspects; additionally, one is also required to have a degree from on social courses from the university. The expected payment depends on type of the type of project and thus the wages are not defined specifically(Mynextmove.org. 2018).  There are several questions that I have concerning the two job profiles that I have an interest on:

  1. Are social jobs rewarding, that is do they fetch a lot of income?
  2. What is the future of enterprising?

Research Literature Review Assignment

Research Literature Review Assignment

(Research Literature Review Assignment)

6052 Assignment Part2

This is a continuation of the Course Project presented in Week 2.

Before you begin, review the Course Project Overview document located in the Week 2 Resources area.

The literature review is a critical piece in the research process because it helps a researcher determine what is currently known about a topic and identify gaps or further questions. Conducting a thorough literature review can be a time-consuming process, but the effort helps establish the foundation for everything that will follow. For this part of your Course Project, you will conduct a brief literature review to find information on the question you developed in Week 2. This will provide you with experience in searching databases and identifying applicable resources.

· Review the information in Chapter 5 of the course text, focusing on the steps for conducting a literature review and for compiling your findings.

· Using the question you selected in your Week 2 Project (Part 1 of the Course Project), locate 5 or more full-text research articles that are relevant to your PICOT question. Include at least 1 systematic review and 1 integrative review if possible. Use the search tools and techniques mentioned in your readings this week to enhance the comprehensiveness and objectivity of your review. You may gather these articles from any appropriate source, but make sure at least 3 of these articles are available as full-text versions through Walden Library’s databases.

· Read through the articles carefully. Eliminate studies that are not appropriate and add others to your list as needed. Although you may include more, you are expected to include a minimum of five articles. Complete a literature review summary table using the Literature Review Summary Table Template located in this week’s Learning Resources.

· Prepare to summarize and synthesize the literature using the information on writing a literature review found in Chapter 5 of the course text.

To complete:

Write a 3- to 4-page literature review that includes the following:

· A synthesis of what the studies reveal about the current state of knowledge on the question that you developed

o Point out inconsistencies and contradictions in the literature and offer possible explanations for inconsistencies.

· Preliminary conclusions on whether the evidence provides strong support for a change in practice or whether further research is needed to adequately address your inquiry

· Your literature review summary table with all references formatted in correct APA style

Note: Certain aspects of conducting a standard review of literature have not yet been covered in this course. Therefore, while you are invited to critically examine any aspect of the studies (e.g., a study’s design, appropriateness of the theoretic framework, data sampling methods), your conclusion should be considered preliminary. Bear in mind that five studies are typically not enough to reflect the full range of knowledge on a particular question and you are not expected to be familiar enough with research methodology to conduct a comprehensive evaluation of all aspects of the studies.

Defining Scholarship

Defining Scholarship

(Defining Scholarship)

A hallmark of your education at Walden University is your development as a scholar-practitioner. As a doctoral student, you have been actively engaged in scholarly activities that support your growth as a scholar-practitioner. As you continue to develop, implement, and evaluate your EBP project, you will be applying scholarship as you translate research into practice. A key element of scholarship is dissemination.

As you prepare for this Discussion, consider the role of evaluation and dissemination in scholarship. If research is not disseminated, can it be considered scholarship?

To prepare:

  • Reflect      on the definitions and criteria for scholarship presented in the Learning      Resources.
  • Consider      AACN’s definition of scholarship and their vision of the role of the      DNP-prepared nurse in furthering nursing scholarship.

By tomorrow Wednesday 11/5/18, write a minimum of 550 words essays in APA format with at least 3 references from the list of REQUIRED READINGS below. Include the level one header as underlined below:

Post a cohesive scholarly response that addresses the following:

  • What      is the role of the DNP-prepared nurse in scholarship? Provide at least two      specific examples.

Policy and Nursing Interactions

Policy and Nursing Interactions

(Policy and Nursing Interactions)

Nursing and policy are deeply intertwined, with policies shaping the scope, standards, and quality of nursing practice. Nurses advocate for patient care improvements, influencing health policies and reforms. Policies dictate nursing roles, staffing, and protocols, ensuring safe, equitable, and efficient healthcare delivery. Through involvement in policy-making, nurses bring frontline insights to legislative processes, promoting evidence-based changes. Their engagement ensures that healthcare policies reflect practical realities, enhancing patient outcomes and advancing the nursing profession.

Jeanne Blum, RN, is a nurse on a LDRP unit. Recently, the policy and   procedures manual for Jeanne’s unit included the premature rupturing of membranes of a laboring patient    as a practice acceptable for nurses to perform. Jeanne    and some of her coworkers shared their concern over   lunch about this new responsibility. They felt uncomfortable with the possibility of cord prolapse and    other potential medical complications resulting from    this practice. Jeanne gathered data from her state and    many others states and noted that her hospital was    not in compliance with her professional organizationpractice standards. Jeanne shared this information   with her coworkers. She volunteered to contact the    state board of nursing on their behalf to request a    declaratory statement on the nurse’s role in the initiation of premature rupturing of uterine membranes.    Her state board’s clinical practice committee    reviewed her request for a declaratory statement and    gathered information from other states. A formal    declaratory statement was drafted by the board and    made it available on its Web site. A letter from the    board was sent to Jeanne’s institution, informing it of   the declaratory statement, which stated that the task    nurses were requested to perform was beyond their    scope of practice based on the Nurse Practice Act.

Strategic Nursing Mobilization Plan

Strategic Nursing Mobilization Plan

(Strategic Nursing Mobilization Plan)

Question description

Create an 8–10-slide mobilization plan PowerPoint presentation.

OVERVIEW

Create an 8–10-slide mobilization plan PowerPoint presentation (with detailed speaker’s notes) for a mobilization plan by your health care organization to commit 20 nurses to participate in a 4-month-long multinational effort to treat patients exposed to a highly contagious virus in a hot zone in Africa.

Nursing leaders must incorporate approaches that are inclusive and respectful of all stakeholders in the health care workforce, patient population, and the larger community that is served by the organization. Communication among members of teams, between departments and service lines, within large networks, with strategic business partners, and with patients, families, or support persons requires awareness of various facets of effective communication and cultural competence. A mobilization plan for an international medical mission requires careful planning of organizational structure roles, power distribution, and team member empowerment.

(Strategic Nursing Mobilization Plan)

By successfully completing this assessment, you will demonstrate your proficiency in the following course competencies and assessment criteria:

  • Competency 1: Identify nursing leadership priorities using a systems perspective.
    • Identify the major stakeholders within the health care system that would be affected by the mobilization plan.
  • Competency 2: Apply systems theory and systems thinking to facilitate health care delivery and patient outcomes.
    • Apply systems thinking to determine the impact of the mobilization effort on hospital staffing and care patterns.
    • Identify key actions needed to assure quality of care and safety for mission patients and personnel.
  • Competency 3: Analyze the role of multiculturalism and diversity in organizational and systems structure and leadership.
    • Examine potential multicultural and diversity issues that mission personnel may encounter.
  • Competency 4: Evaluate how power relates to health care organizational structure, behavior, and leadership.
    • Describe the medical mission team’s organizational structure and how power is distributed.
    • Assess how the organizational structure empowers team members.
    • Evaluate potential power issues that may arise when dealing with a multinational contingent.
  • Competency 5: Communicate in a manner that is consistent with the expectations of a nursing professional.
    • Write content clearly and logically, with correct use of grammar, punctuation, and mechanics.
    • Correctly format citations and references using current APA style.

CONTEXTPOWERLeadership is often referred to as a power relationship and to be in a leadership role is to have some degree of power (Grossman & Valiga, 2013). The power that comes as a natural part of being a leader can be used most effectively not by control; but by influencing the direction of a group and the accomplishment of a vision. Power does not come just from having a position of authority; but also from having self-confidence, knowledge, a sense of purpose, and commitment to an ideal. Good communication skills, flexibility, a willingness to collaborate with others, as well as being open to other ideas and risks are sources of power. Leaders empower others by sharing the vision and inspiring commitment to a project or mission.

Power

1. POWER(Strategic Nursing Mobilization Plan)

Dr. Abrams:
To continue our discussion on being persuasive and powerful and influential in your negotiations, let us talk a little about power. Most people have a negative reaction to power, but I want you to think of power as something neutral. That power is not good or bad. Power exists in all people, all organizations, all environments, how power is used and to what ends affect whether it is good or bad.

The researchers, French and Raven, did a study on power, and came up with six different kinds. One is expert power, that we grant people power because they are experts in the field. Also gives them a lot of logic and a lot of credibility.

Legitimate power is the kind of power that we grant people based on their title or their role.

Referent power is the power we give to people because we have a lot of respect for them, and we want to be like them, in a role model kind of situation.

Information, we give people power, because they have information that we want. One of the great killers of an organization is withholding information. Powerful people actually share information.

The other one is called punishment power/reward power. Well, we grant people power if they have the ability to punish us and/or the ability to reward us. For example, your boss, your professor, your parents. Individual resources and abilities impact power exercised by a person in a negotiation situation.

Individual differences and ability, political skills, and a willingness to use those skills and abilities within the organization are really important on how you define your BATNA, how you make a decision, and your walkaway point.

I think though, handling power in an organization is a skill. Part of learning to manage is learning to manage power.

Gaining power internally brings you a sense of self, which is different from power externally. So you want power in your organization, because of who you are, and people believe that organizations are rational. However, they are not.

One of the ways to understand organizations is to look at organizations as political, not rational, and that politics impact the organization internally and externally.

The equation goes like this, politics equals influence and equals power. I want you to think about who you grant power to in your organization and why, and who you grant power to in a negotiation setting and why.

2. FIVE REASONS ORGANIZATIONS BEHAVE AS POLITICAL INSTITUTIONS

Dr. Abrams:(Strategic Nursing Mobilization Plan)
I have five reasons that organizations behave as political institutions. I will just state them clearly and then you can let me know what you think. First thing is that humans have values. Our actions reflect our priorities and our priorities are reflections of our values.

So if you want to persuade me to do something in a negotiation, you are going to have to figure out what it is that I value.

Organizational effectiveness is a value. The issue or the criteria used to measure effectiveness is a value choice. So for some people it is bottom line, for other people, no one got fired today, other settings, no one got killed today. So I want you to think about how you define organizational effectiveness and how the people at the table will be defining organizational effectiveness.

Third one is, there is always competition for scarce resources. There is never ever enough internal resources and external resources, and the question is, who is going to get them and why? If you make your argument based on a value system of the organization and the person, you are more likely to get the resources you need.

Information is seldom complete. We never have enough information to make a decision. We fill in those gaps with our judgment. Judgments are based on experience and your value system, and your value system affects how you see things. So it is a good idea to find out somebody’s interest over position for the negotiation.

The last one is that we have a tremendous dependency on others in our organization, and we need to be persuasive, we need to be influential to get those people to come to the table. We are dependent on them, you have no control over them.

So to sum all this up, it is not a solution, it is a suggestion, is the idea of law reciprocity. You take care of people, they will take care of you. Sometimes you honestly compromise and then they will compromise. If you scratch my back, I will scratch yours. It is a really important concept.

Another one is currency. Find out what people’s currencies are. Find out what their values are and how you can attribute to those and create networks, so you could build coalitions and figure out how to make the best possible argument to fit your needs.

ASSESSMENT INSTRUCTIONS

PREPARATION

Use the Capella library and the Internet to help you complete this assessment. For help using PowerPoint, refer to the Microsoft Tutorials and other resources located in the Suggested Resources and left navigation menu of the courseroom.

This assessment is based upon the scenario below. The scenario is very limited in detail; where more detail is needed, incorporate any assumptions you make to flesh out the scenario. It is intended to assess your ability to communicate your approach to a challenge by evaluating issues of organization, leadership, safety, quality improvement, multiculturalism and diversity.

Your approach should be very conceptual and high-level.

Scenario
Your health care organization has recently committed 20 nurses to participate in a 4-month-long multinational effort to treat patients exposed to a highly contagious virus in a “hot zone” in Africa. The director of your organization has asked you, because of your previous medical mission experience, to outline nursing-related plans for preparing for the mobilization and present this information at an upcoming staff meeting.

DELIVERABLE: MOBILIZATION PLAN POWERPOINT PRESENTATION

Create an 8–10-slide PowerPoint presentation (with detailed speaker’s notes) of your mobilization plan. It should be targeted toward members of the hospital’s administrative staff, nurses, and the physicians who will also participate in this medical mission.

  • Use bullet points and phrases on the slides.
  • The narrative, or explanation for each slide, should be in the speaker’s notes section.

The mobilization plan should address the following:

  • Identify the major stakeholders within the health care system that would be affected by the mobilization plan.
  • Analyze how the mobilization effort will impact staffing patterns and nursing care at the hospital.
  • Describe the medical mission team’s organizational structure of the mission team and how power is distributed.
    • Include one slide of an organizational diagram for the mission.
      • Describe the roles (in the speaker’s notes).
  • Assess how the organizational structure empowers team members.
    • Provide 1–2 examples of how team members will have power.
  • Identify key actions needed to assure quality of care and safety for mission patients and personnel.
  • Evaluate potential power issues that may arise when dealing with a multinational contingent.
    • (Be generic; that is, do not address individual nationalities, races, et cetera.)
    • Consider interactions with health care personnel from other countries.
  • Examine potential multicultural and diversity issues that mission personnel may encounter.
    • Consider that the indigenous population may be hostile to treatment.
    • Outline possible training requirements to improve cultural competencies of the personnel.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS(Strategic Nursing Mobilization Plan)

  • Written communication: Written communication should be free of errors that detract from the overall message.
  • APA formatting: Resources and in-text citations should be formatted according to current APA style and formatting.
  • Length: Presentation should be 8–10 slides. Include speaker’s notes on each content slide.
  • References: Include a minimum of three peer-reviewed resources on the final slide (in APA format).
  • General formatting: Choose an appropriate theme if using a template.

Descriptive Epidemiology

Descriptive Epidemiology

(Descriptive Epidemiology)

HIV/AIDS was first recognized as an epidemic in the United States in 1981. At the beginning of the AIDS epidemic, the life expectancy for infected persons was less than 7 years. Today, because of research and new treatment options, people who begin treatment soon after diagnosis can expect to live a nearly normal life span (Cairns, 2010). The HIV/AIDS epidemic was identified through descriptive epidemiology.

Descriptive epidemiologic studies are often conducted as precursors to analytic studies. Epidemiologic concepts are used to gather data to better understand and evaluate health trends in populations. Data such as characteristics of the persons affected, place where an incident occurred, and time of occurrence are collected and analyzed to look for patterns in an effort to identify emerging health problems. In this Discussion, you will apply the epidemiologic concepts of time, place, and person to a specific population health problem.

To prepare:

  • Consider      a variety of population health problems, and then select one on which to      focus for this Discussion.
  • Identify      a specific population affected by your selected health problem.
  • Research      the patterns of the disease in your selected population using the      epidemiologic characteristics of person, place, and time.
  • Explore      three to five data sources presented in the Learning Resources that could      aid you in describing the population and magnitude of the problem. Analyze      the strengths and limitations of each data source.
  • Consider      methods for obtaining raw data to determine the variables of person,      place, and time for your health problem. Ask yourself: How would the      methods I select influence the accuracy of case identification,      definition, and diagnosis?

By tomorrow Wednesday 03/07/18 by 4pm, write a minimum of 550 words in APA format with a minimum of THREE scholarly references from the list of required readings below. Include the level one headers as numbered below:

Post a cohesive response that addresses the following:

1) Evaluate your selected health problem in the population you identified by describing THREE to FIVE characteristics related to person, place, and time.

2) Appraise the data sources you utilized by outlining the strengths and limitations of each.

3) Discuss TWO methods you could use to collect raw data to determine the descriptive epidemiology of your health problem, determine how these methods would influence the completeness of case identification as well as the case definition/diagnostic criteria used.

Chapter 5, “Sources of Data for Use in Epidemiology”

Chapter 3 examines several measures of disease frequency that are typically utilized in epidemiology.

In Chapter 4, the authors address a basic premise of epidemiology: that disease occurs in patterns reflecting underlying factors (rather than occurring randomly). Using the tools introduced in Chapter 3, it is possible to take a more detailed look at the occurrence of disease, focusing on characteristics related to person, place, and time. This chapter also notes the distinction between descriptive versus analytic epidemiology; descriptive studies characterize the amount and distribution of disease within a population, whereas analytic epidemiology is concerned with the determinants of disease.

Chapter 5 provides information about various data sources that are available to the general public, and the authors examine some of the critical issues related to data collection and use that require careful attention.

Chapter 12, “Information Technology”

In this chapter, the authors examine the use of information technology, noting that research based on richer, more real-time data will inform policy decisions in all parts of the health care system. The challenge of integrating individual patient is mobile applications into the electronic health record are presented.

Deliverable7 – Social Media Plan

Deliverable7 – Social Media Plan

(Deliverable7 – Social Media Plan)

  • Analyze the evolution of social media standards and practices and how it relates to the potential need for regulation of social media, along with ethical concerns.
  • Evaluate psychological theories and their insights into the widely varying opinions and attitudes that are expressed through social media.
  • Compare and contrast new social media marketing trends with more traditional forms of advertising.
  • Assess the development of societal standards in relation to social media and how this can alter social norms in everyday life.
  • Integrate the positive and negative effects of social media making global communication easily accessible.
  • Design a personal plan to use social media to benefit the student both personally and professionally as well as minimize online mistakes and their impact.

Instructions

Social media use is critical to a dynamic and competitive brand, whether that brand is something you sell, a group home, a non-profit organization, or your self-image. This project will get you thinking about effective ways to shape your social media tools to make the most of your brand, to keep consumers talking and thinking about your brand, and to get interaction from those you seek to sell to or to help. You will take a look at what you post to social media, possible responses or reactions you will receive, as well as use social media trends and society controls to keep your brand meeting your goals.

Your final project should include a plan for the following: how you will utilize a minimum of four social media sites; what your target audience will be; your use of contacts, outreach, and advertising best practices; your posting do’s and don’ts; and explanations of your choices using the sources from the course and others you find.

If you have a real business, brand, or site to work on, you can start by putting the site profiles into the four social media sites you have chosen (e.g. Facebook, Twitter, etc.). Screenshots will work for these that you have really made. If you don’t really have a business or brand, you do not need to create faux profiles. However, you should write the information you would include in your profile for each one.

In summary, your plan should contain:

  • An introduction to your brand or company
  • Your social media goals and general goals for the brand
  • An analysis of the market comparables — similar businesses/nonprofits/brands, including what has been successful and what hasn’t worked for at least 3 good comparable brands
  • Discussion of societal norms for those comparables. What seem to be the “rules” they follow? Is there open or tacit regulation you’ve noticed? Include how you can expand your influence globally by overcoming potential language and culture barriersÂ
  • An analysis of advertising and its necessity along with the type of advertising you would do and why
  • An outline of the audience you intend to reach and how to reach them. Be sure to take into account the factors that are in play when attempting to reach an audience that includes a wide range of ages (consider generational differences)
  • A plan for how to use your contacts and add new ones when publicizing and staying connected
  • A plan for each of four social media sites, including profile information and posting ideas
  • Analysis of any of the theories you would use
  • A conclusion

Your project lengths will depend on how much depth you put into your analysis of each section, but to give you a general idea, several paragraphs for most of the bullet points is a good length, and should result in a total of around 10 pages.
