Ethical Dilemmas in Euthanasia

Ethical Dilemmas in Euthanasia

Please Do A Comment Base In This Answers. Write At Least 140 Words In Each Answer, Take Reference From (2013-2018) If Is Possible, Academic References Please Because The Teacher Check It Out One By One. SUSTANTIVE POST NEEDED

Comment 1(Ethical Dilemmas in Euthanasia)

Based on Meilaender’s (2013) perspective of suicide, it is morally wrong because there is an unwillingness to receive the life given, by our creator, moment by moment.  Suicide
is not God’s will, it is the irrational desire of a man to be in control and a repercussion of sin with man acting as the creator, instead of the created.  Meilanender (2013) contends that life is not “our” possession, nor ours to take whether by suicide or euthanasia.  I appreciate his comparison of our lives to being characters in a story that God created while God gives us the freedom to act according to the nature he provided.  However, I don’t believe that it was ever God’s intent to allow us the freedom to rationally take a life by suicide.

I have a personal experience with suicide, so I have struggled with the morality, or lack thereof.  Where Meilaender (2013) states that the sin of suicide dies with the
person and they are not necessarily damned is relevant for all suicides and euthanasia because God judges the person, not the individual deeds.  Meilaender (2013) also pointedly asserts that the autonomous decision to end a life, whether it be a “right to die with dignity” state or not, there is an inherent risk that it is still morally wrong
and judged by God as a “lordship” over another human’s life, which is biblically wrong.

I am not a hospice nurse for a reason.  I know that I would struggle with the person begging me to give them an additional dose of morphine to end their pain and
misery.  This is a terrible predicament for a nurse who is caring for their patients and family members both physically and emotionally.  Meilaender (2013) claims that hastening one’s inevitable death is a form of abandonment.   I know I would struggle with temptation to bring relief to someone who is severely suffering, so I choose to not put myself in that position.  My compassion would cause an internal struggle that I can avoid and a judgement that I, as a sinful human being, do not want to make, even if God does not judge me for individual deeds.

Comment 2(Ethical Dilemmas in Euthanasia)

Suicide and euthanasia are extremely sensitive topics for the majority of individuals including health care workers. According to the Christian belief, it is considered a sinful act and therefore goes against Christian beliefs. Meilaender (2013) states that “Christians have held that suicide is morally wrong because they have seen it in a contradiction of our nature as creatures, an unwillingness to receive life moment by moment from the hand of God without ever regarding it as simply “our” possession” (Meilaender, 2013). He goes on to say that our life is not something we own and that by committing suicide we are essentially playing the role of creator. We need to remember that life is a gift from God and to take one’s own life is a selfish act and disrespectful to God for the gift of life he gave to us.

Suicide and euthanasia are controversial topics. I don’t whole heartedly agree with Meilaender. I believe that if a patient has a chronic illness that is causing them to have a very poor quality of life and/or chronic pain, then that person should be allowed to decide if they want to carry on with life living that way. What a bleak existence it would be. My husband and I have had numerous discussions about this very topic. We both agree that if either one of us were extremely ill, we should find a way to put that person out of their misery. On the flip side, if a healthy person were to take their own life, then I totally agree with Meilaender and that person is selfish and not following in the footsteps of God

Grieving Model Application Strategies

Grieving Model Application Strategies

(Grieving Model Application Strategies)

The death of a loved one is a significant event that everyone experiences. An individual’s social environment, including societal and familial cultural factors, may influence how an individual approaches death or grieves the loss of someone else who dies. You can anticipate addressing grief in your social work practice and, therefore, should develop an understanding of the grieving process.

Two models of grieving—the Kubler-Ross and Westburg models—identify stages through which an individual progresses in response to the death of a loved one. Understanding the various ways individuals cope with grief helps you to anticipate their responses and to assist them in managing their grief. Select one model of grieving—the Kubler-Ross or Westburg model—to address in this assignment.

Addressing the needs of grieving family members can diminish your personal emotional, mental, and physical resources. In addition to developing strategies to assist grieving individuals in crisis, you must develop strategies that support self-care.

In this Assignment, you apply a grieving model to work with families in a hospice environment and suggest strategies for self-care.

By Day 7

Submit a 2- to 4-page paper in which you:

  • Explain how you, as a social worker, might apply the grieving model you selected to your work with families in a hospice environment.
  • Identify components of the grieving model that you think might be difficult to apply to your social work practice. Explain why you anticipate these challenges.
  • Identify strategies you might use for your own self care as a social worker dealing with grief counseling. Explain why these strategies might be effective.

Support your Assignment with specific references to the resources. Be sure to provide full APA citations for your references.

Essay for datable subject

Essay for datable subject

(Essay for datable subject)

Question description

Please use at least 8 peer reviewed sources!

The paper should be 5-7 buzzwords in in length

Instructions

Identify a specific instance in a document, broadcast, or conversation in which the meaning an author assigns to a word is debatable. You are not looking for an instance in which someone uses a term incorrectly, such as using the word “antidote” to refer to a short story. Rather, you are looking for an instance in which a person applies a word to an object or situation and you disagree with the person’s evaluation of that object or situation; e.g., the killing of his sister for her sexual indiscretion and indecency was deemed a “mercy” killing. In the example, the author uses the word “mercy” to describe a compassionate act done for the other individual’s sake as a result of the compromise of moral values, and the implications on the family’s character. You may disagree that such an act was done out of “mercy,” and therefore take exception to the use of that word.

When you have your example, then answer for yourself the following question: Why is it important to dispute the meaning of that word? Your answer to that question will eventually become the thesis of your paper.

Begin your essay (in its body, and using all of the stylistic tools you’ve learned thus far), by: (1) summarizing your example, explaining what meaning the author suggested or connoted when using the word; (2) follow this by arguing why this is incorrect; (3) what the word should really mean (and why); (4) and then “prove” to me that the word really means what you say it means.

There are several ways to “prove” that the word means what you say it means. Those include: dictionary definitions, common usage, historical usage, trade/technical jargon, socio-economic history of the word, religious attributions, cultural context, and many others. In other words, use law, medicine, philosophy, history, religion, culture, slang, etc. to “prove” your stated meaning of the word.

Another strategy for establishing the meaning of a term is to define related terms. For instance, if you are establishing the meaning of maturity, you may also want to define experiencedresponsible, and established.

After establishing a precedent for your preferred meaning, explain the difference it will make to use that meaning over another. In this section of the paper, you will want to provide specific examples of how the word’s meaning can or will influence decision-making and social action.

Conclude your paper with a proper, three part conclusion.

Nursing Center’s Marketing Challenges

Nursing Center’s Marketing Challenges

(Nursing Center’s Marketing Challenges)

Case Study 3

Sometimes It Works, Sometimes It Doesn’t

Jim Beaufort was appointed as the administrator of Marshall Nursing Center, a 230-bed skilled nursing facility located in a large metropolitan area. The facility’s occupancy rate had gradually declined from 82% (188 residents) a year ago to 74% (170 residents). Three months ago when Jim was hired for the job, the company’s vice president of operations, Ronald Ortner, was upfront about the declining census. Ortner was particularly impressed with Jim’s business degree in marketing, and how Jim had enthusiastically talked about using a “mystery shopper”* to get information on the competitors of a nursing home he had previously managed. Jim knew that his work was cut out for him. When offering the job, Ortner had said, “I am giving you a 20% raise over what you were making at your old job; I want this facility turned around in a year’s time.” To that Jim had confidently responded, “Oh, you will see a trend change much before that.”

Jim spent the first 3 months on the job getting to know the staff, residents, and some of the family members. He made written notes on some of his observations:

  • The certification survey 6 months ago was satisfactory. There were no serious deficiencies.
  • Some issues with building cleanliness have been addressed with the housekeeping supervisor.
  • Department head meetings had been sparse and irregular.
  • Food was the most common complaint from residents and family members, but so it is at every other facility.
  • The licensed nursing staff is stable, but high turnover of certified nursing assistants creates some staffing shortages. Overtime is high, and the director of nursing says that there is some burnout among both nurses and CNAs.
  • The facility’s expenses are below budget; the previous administrator must have been a “penny pincher.”
  • Patients are scattered throughout the building. Many of them are occupying private rooms, whereas Medicaid pays only for semiprivate accommodations.

Jim thinks that he has just 9 months left to increase the census and keep his job. So, he embarks on formulating a marketing plan:

  • Free up as many patient rooms as possible in one section of the building by moving patients to other occupied parts of the facility. Start an adult day care center by using some of the empty rooms.
  • Hire one additional RN and one LPN to alleviate the feelings of burnout among the staff. Start a CNA training program at the facility.
  • Send a mystery shopper to the three main competitors to evaluate how they handle the inquiry process. Have the mystery shopper evaluate Marshall’s inquiry process as well. Improve the admission coordinator’s personal selling skills.
  • Purchase advertising at the local newspaper, radio station, and TV station that would say:

Marshall Nursing Center has excelled in providing high-quality nursing and rehabilitation care in this community for more than 20 years. Our staff’s caring is like a healing touch. We are accepting new patients. Bring your loved one here and see the results for yourself.

“That will get people’s attention,” Jim thought to himself.

  • Discard the black and white brochures and replace them with a four-color brochure with some pictures and the same message used in advertising. Place these brochures in hospital waiting rooms and doctors’ clinics.
  • Invite the hospital’s discharge planners to dinner at a fine restaurant. Explain to them the facility’s new marketing plan and ask for their help in referring patients.
  • While the marketing plan is being implemented, Jim will personally handle all preadmission inquiries, using the admission’s coordinator for backup.

Jim was confident that in another 6 months the facility’s census would start turning around, but it only deteriorated further. Frustrated, he starts looking for another job. Sitting in his office, he moans, “Marketing is just a theory: sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t.”

* A mystery shopper, also referred to as a “secret shopper,” is a marketing professional who specializes in visiting and evaluating business practices, posing as a potential client.

Questions

1.  How should Jim have handled his job interview with regard to the declining census?

2.  Do you agree with Jim’s statement: Marketing is just a theory: sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t? Explain why marketing may not work.

3.  Evaluate Jim’s marketing plan. What main improvements would you make?

4.  Critically evaluate the promotional message

Nursing Quality Outcomes

Nursing Quality Outcomes

(Nursing Quality Outcomes)

Improvement science models bring together research and evidence-based practice to identify the most effective ways to promote quality and safety in health care. As a central tenet of quality improvement, attention must be paid to the processes that contribute to outcomes.

In this Discussion, you examine quality improvement models and evaluate how they could be applied to address specific issues within health care organizations.

To prepare:

  • Review the improvement models presented in the Learning Resources.
  • Evaluate each of the models and select two on which to focus for this Discussion.
  • Consider how each of the two models could be utilized in a health care organization to promote quality and safety. Think about the following:
    • How does the model bring together research and evidence-based practice to facilitate quality improvement?
    • How does the model contribute to a culture of quality and safety?
    • How does it address changes in process?
  • Reflect on the quality improvement issue and the health care setting that you are addressing for your Course Project. Of the two models that you have selected, determine which one you, as a nurse leader-manager, would use to address this issue. Also consider how this would relate to one or more of the IOM’s six aims for quality and safety.

By Day 3

Post your analysis of how the two improvement models that you selected could foster a culture of quality and patient safety and facilitate changes in process that promote positive outcomes. Explain how you would use one of these models to address the quality improvement issue in the organization that you have selected for your Course Project, and how doing so would relate to one or more of the IOM’s six aims for improving quality and safety.

Read a selection of your colleagues’ responses.

By Day 6

Respond to at least two of your colleagues on two different days using one or more of the following approaches:

  • Offer additional strategies for using your colleague’s selected model to address the IOM’s six aims for quality.
  • Share insights for engaging frontline staff using your colleague’s selected improvement model.
  • Compare the steps in the improvement model that you selected with your colleague’s.
  • Suggest an alternative model for your colleague to utilize in his or her identified health care organization.

Controversies In Industrial & Organizational Assessment2.

Controversies In Industrial & Organizational Assessment2.

(Controversies In Industrial & Organizational Assessment2.)

Prior to beginning work on this discussion, read Chapter 11 in the text, the articles by Baez (2013), Hogan, Barrett, and Hogan (2007), Morgeson, Campion, and Dipboye (2007), Peterson, Griffith, Isaacson, O’Connell, and Mangos (2011), and the Maximizing Human Potential Within Organizations (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site.Building Better Organizations (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site., and Top Minds and Bottom Lines (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site. brochures on the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology (SIOP) website.

Evaluate the MMP1-2-RF Police Candidate Interpretive Reports for Mr. C . and Ms. D. For this discussion, you will take on the role of an industrial-organizational psychologist recently awarded a contract to evaluate potential police candidates. The purpose of the evaluations is to determine the psychological capability of the applicants to be certified as police officers in your state. The applicants you are examining are applying for certification and will be vested with a position of public trust. If certified as police officers, the individuals will likely be required at some future time to exercise significant physical strength and undergo high emotional stress. As the examining psychologist, you are required to comment on the applicants’ social comprehension, judgment, impulse control, potential for violence, and/or any psychological traits that might render her or him psychologically at risk to be certified. The state requires that each applicant’s examination include the following elements:

Interview and History: The psychologist must personally interview the applicant and provide a summary of the applicant’s personal, educational, employment, and criminal history.

Required Personality Test: The applicant shall be administered any current standard form of the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory-2 (MMPI-2) by the licensed psychologist who interviewed the individual, or by a paraprofessional employed by and under the direct control and supervision of that licensed psychologist.

Other Testing Methods: If (after conducting the required test) the licensed psychologist is unable to certify the applicant’s psychological capability or risk to exercise appropriate judgment and restraint to be certified as a police officer, the psychologist is directed to personally employ whatever other psychological measuring instrument(s) and/or technique(s) deemed necessary to form her or his professional opinion. The use of any such instrument(s) and/or technique(s) requires a full and complete written explanation to the commission.

For the purposes of this discussion, assume the interview and history information reported to you by Mr. C. and Ms. D. is unremarkable and that neither candidate communicated anything to you during the interview that raised concerns about her or his capabilities to exercise appropriate judgment and restraint to be certified as a police officer. Review the MMP1-2-RF Police Candidate Interpretive Reports for Mr. C. (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site. and Ms. D. (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site. and evaluate the professional interpretation of this testing and assessment data from an ethical perspective.
In your initial post, communicate your conclusions about Mr. C. and Ms. D., either recommending certification or communicating reservations. After you have made your decision, begin the section on each candidate with one of the following statements, identifying each candidate by name.

To recommend certification: I have examined [insert applicant’s name], and it is my professional opinion that this person is psychologically capable of exercising appropriate judgment and restraint to be certified as a police officer.
Follow the above statement with a one-paragraph rationale for your conclusion based on the available test results.
Follow the rationale with a brief comparison of any additional assessment instruments you might consider administering beyond the MMPI-2-RF. Debate the pros and cons of the potential use of other assessments. Explain any ethical implications that may arise from the interpretation of this data.

To communicate reservations: I have examined [insert applicant’s name], and it is my professional opinion that this person is psychologically at risk for exercising appropriate judgment and restraint to be certified as a police officer.
Follow the statement with a one-paragraph rationale for your conclusion based on the available test results.
Follow the rationale with a brief comparison of any additional assessment instruments you recommend administering beyond the MMPI-2-RF. Debate the pros and cons of using other assessments.
