Applied Social Psychology Literature Review1

(Applied Social Psychology Literature1)

Week 5 – Assignment

Applied Social Psychology Literature1 Review

Throughout this course, you have been exploring the ways in which social psychological principles can be applied to various careers. This week, you will create a literature review of articles that cover some of the main topics of applied social psychology. You should frame your review as if you were explaining the purpose of the field to someone who does not know about social psychology. To do this, you will write a literature review that contains five articles, each of which focuses on a different theory. Two of the five articles can be from the literature review for your case study that you wrote last week; however, they each must cover different theories. The other three articles should pertain to different theories that have been discussed throughout the course or that will be discussed in Week Six.

Remember, even though these articles are not necessarily related, the literature review must still have a thesis statement (e.g., Applied social psychology is a field that is important because it is relevant to…) and a conclusion that reinforces your claim. Since you are allowed to use your review of two articles from your previous literature review, please ensure you make any necessary modifications to your analysis so that they match the thesis statement and conclusion of this literature review.

The literature review must be five to seven pages in length, not including title and reference pages. All of the articles that you use must be recent (published within the past 10 years). You should also cite other material (e.g., seminal works about the theories) as appropriate to help you contextualize and explain the articles that you are discussing. Format your paper according to APA style as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site.

Process Response Reflections

Process Response Reflections: Walmart & Freshmen Registration

(Process Response Reflections)

write one response for every artical

Question description

Comment 1A business process is a collection of related activities that produce a desired outcome for the company that utilizes the process in order to deliver value to a customer. The business process that I will be using as an example is purchasing a product at Walmart.

The triggering event is a customer purchasing a product at one of Walmart’s stores. Whenever a customer purchases an item, the customer inadvertently interacts with Walmart’s POS system. That information about the product purchased is handed off to the associated Walmart supplier. This supplier produces the product, labels it, and packs it for shipping. Information about the product’s destination is then handed off to an external shipping company. In the shipping activity, there are two outcomes (Claribel Slide 10).

One outcome of the product is the shipment to a Walmart distribution center within 72 hours of ordering the good. This 72 hours could serve as a potential bottleneck. The product is received, selected, packed for shipping, and then reshipped within 48 hours of the product being received by the center. Within another 48 hours, the good is shipped, received by an individual store, and stored in preparation for selling. Eventually, it will be sold to a customer, who will start the process over. The 48-hour time limits mentioned above could prove to be potential bottlenecks. The second outcome of the shipping process is that the good is shipped directly from the manufacturer directly into storage at an individual store, where it will be sold to a customer to restart the process (Claribel Slide 10).

Variations could occur in the manufacturing activity of the process. Goods could be created with defects of other problems that could delay the rest of the process. This can be especially common in businesses that Walmart deals with, as one of Walmart’s business rules is to partner with manufacturers that can produce a good at the lowest possible cost. Variations could also occur in shipping, where a good may not reach the correct destination and delaying the process. The cost of this process is generally very low overall. Walmart is able to use its leverage as a large company to pressure suppliers into producing for minimal profit and at high volumes, potentially causing capacity restrictions.

2#Comment 3-

Business Process: Freshmen student registration.

Since freshmen are new to the system at Widener University, there are several steps that must happen to ensure that the students are in the correct courses, in the correct sequence for progression. The School of Nursing (SON) curriculum is very rigid and does not have any free electives so there is no room for error. If a student takes a course that does not count for a required pre-requisite or general education requirement, they will be required to pay out of pocket for the course during the summer to stay on track. In addition, there are courses that have pre-requisites or minimum SAT/ACT math and/or English (reading scores). Students cannot take those courses without meeting the pre-requisites.

Triggering events:

  1. Acceptance to Widener University School of Nursing
  1. Payment of deposit
  1. Attendance at Pride Registration day

Major Process Activities:(Process Response Reflections)

  1. Secretary sends email to home email address to remind students to set up campus cruiser email and access. She reminds students to sign up for one of six possible Pride Registration days.
  1. Secretary emails directions to configure computer to have access on campus, directions to access the online student planning system (through Campus Cruiser), a list of social science and humanities courses, a list of required pre-requisite and general education courses. Students are encouraged to go into the system and begin to build a schedule.
  1. The day of registration, the students receive a brief in person tutorial of how to access Campus Cruiser and Student Planning.
  1. Students who have taken AP/college courses document the courses on a form to be handed in to the faculty.
  1. Students log into campus cruiser and open student planning.
  1. Students choose classes based on curriculum and availability.
  1. Faculty and volunteer staff walk around room and assist students to build schedule.
  1. Faculty and volunteer staff confirm schedule before students register.
  1. Student registers.

Desired Outcome:

Students register for the appropriate classes.

Handoff:(Process Response Reflections)

  1. Departments within the College of Arts and Sciences build courses for freshman general education and non-nursing pre-requisite courses and assigns faculty which are entered into Colleague.
  1. The SON builds freshman nursing courses and assigns faculty which are entered into Colleague.
  1. Once the courses are built, the registrar assigns rooms to the courses and they are published in Colleague for the students to see.
  1. Students then register for classes using the online system.
  1. Faculty and volunteers then confirm the schedule
  1. The secretaries in the SON check the schedules of all incoming freshman to ensure they are accurate.
  1. If there is an error, the Assistant Dean of Students corrects the schedule.
  1. The freshmen faculty advisors do a final check of the schedule on the Friday before classes start.

Business Rules:

  1. Students cannot register before they pay the deposit.
  1. Courses are created and approved by the department. No other department can create courses for a different department.
  1. All courses have a maximum capacity of seats.
  1. Pre-requisites must be met before a course can be taken.

Capacity:(Process Response Reflections)

Current freshman enrollment is 860 students. There must be enough classes for all 860 students to have the required courses needed.

Bottlenecks:

  1. Students, who do not go into Campus Cruiser and set up their email and Campus Cruiser access prior to registration, must do so during registration. Since the registration time is only 1.5 hours, they may miss the session after registration while they are trying to set up their access.
  1. Departments do not open up enough seats for registration. The students must then wait for the registrar to get permission to open new sections or raise caps.
  1. Wifi access can be an issue if a large number of students are trying to access it at the same time.
  1. Students, who have not reviewed the course selections list, do not know what they would like to take for social science/humanities electives.

Variation:

1. Students who come to Widener with AP courses or college courses, need a different schedule or a minor depending on the number of credits.

2. Students who have a math SAT score less than 530 or an ACT score less than 19, must take math 101 in the fall.  Math 101 or a SAT score 530 or greater or ACT score greater than 19 are required to take chemistry. This means that the student will take Chemistry in the spring semester freshman year and then take anatomy andn physiology I in the summer to get back on track with the science progression.

Costs:

Prior to the online system, students completed paper registration with their top three choices and the registrar’s office built their schedule. On the Friday before classes started, many students changed their schedules, which required paper drop/add slips processed by the registrar’s office. The costs included paper (for forms) as well as manpower. The student’s schedules were still checked by the SON secretaries.

Since the institution of the online computer system, the registrar’s office has seen a decrease in the number of hours creating schedules and inputting drop/add forms. They do volunteer during student registration. Faculty volunteer their time to assist the students. There is the additional cost of the computer program for online registration but I do not know the actual cost

Micro Mod 4 Discussion

Micro Mod 4 Discussion

Micro Mod 4 Discussion

Micro Mod 4 delves into the intricacies of market structures, focusing on monopolies, monopolistic competition, oligopolies, and perfect competition. Each structure presents unique characteristics impacting pricing, output, and profit maximization. Monopolies dominate the market, exhibiting high barriers to entry, allowing them to set prices without competitive pressures. Monopolistic competition features many firms with differentiated products, enabling some pricing power but with limited influence due to substitutes. Oligopolies involve a few dominant firms, fostering strategic interdependence where actions of one significantly affect others. Perfect competition, on the other hand, represents an idealized scenario with numerous small firms, identical products, and perfect information, resulting in price-taking behavior.

Discussion on Micro Mod 4 typically explores the real-world implications of these structures, examining market behaviors, efficiency, consumer welfare, and government interventions. Topics may include the impact of monopolies on innovation, the role of branding in monopolistic competition, the strategic behavior of firms in oligopolistic markets, and the allocative efficiency of perfect competition. Students may also analyze case studies, such as the tech industry’s landscape or regulatory efforts in various sectors. Understanding these market structures equips individuals to comprehend and navigate the complexities of real-world markets, aiding in decision-making processes for firms, policymakers, and consumers alike.

Media Split On Kaci Hickox’s Quarantine . Newsy. Accessed at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sc2Eb9ksrFk on September 14, 2016.

The Ebola outbreak in Western Africa has already claimed thousands of lives and health organizations around the world fear that the number will only continue to rise. Kaci Hickox, a U.S. nurse who worked for Doctors Without Borders treated Ebola patients in Sierra Leone for several days in 2014. When she returned to the US, she was detained and quarantined, despite showing no symptoms of Ebola.

Research the effects and symptoms of Ebola, then address the following questions in your initial post:

  1. Do you think the restrictive measures imposed on Ms. Hickox were justified?
  2. What are some of the advantages and disadvantages of imposing these measures to guard against spreading potentially contagious diseases?

What ethical considerations should be taken into account in making decisions about when to impose these kinds of restrictive measures?

1st Discussion to respond to(Nurse Practitioner Perspective.)

Vivia’s PostIn the state of Illinois, the American Health Ranking 2017 reported some of the key health indicators, which are the uninsured rates among adults and children; poverty rate, mental illness and substance abuse; prevalence of disease in children and adults; drug death and premature deaths; prevalence of diseases and health risk factors such as diabetes, asthma and obesity. The annual report reviews also reported a low prevalence in mental illness; a decline in excessive drinking; a decline in the uninsured; drug deaths and premature deaths. Significant to these declines, data showed that there is a higher number of primary care physicians and dentist in Illinois. The problems with obesity, however has increased from 17% from 27.1% to now 31.6% in the past five years. Violent crimes have also increased from 15% from 380-436 offences per 100,000 population. Smoking was found to decrease in the past five years; 24% from 20.9 to 15.8% of adults; the uninsured decreased 54% from 14.8% to 6.8% of the population. Another problem is the high level of air pollution, which in part explain the high level of preventable hospitalization.

According to information provided by Medicare and Medicaid. Gov. there are limits to what is covered and what is not covered. People need private insurance and supplements to have sufficient health coverage. Medicare does not cover most dental care, long term care (custodial care); eye examination related to prescribing glasses; dentures, cosmetic surgery, acupuncture; hearing aids and routine foot care. Medicaid, on the other hand covers a broad level of health insurance coverage, which includes doctors’ visits, hospital expenses, nursing homes, home health care and long-term care costs.

Although the Affordable Act is in progress, everyone still cannot afford insurance, which is a direct burden on the health care of individuals. The cost of insurance remains high for many, and obesity, morbidity and premature mortality are some of the direct and indirect burden on health care. Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC, 2017) identified, for example, that obesity is a complex issue because it results from a combination of causes and factors such as behavior and genetics. Obesity is a serious burden because it is associated with poor mental health; reduced quality of life and one of the leading cause of death in the USA with other diseases such as diabetes, heart disease, stroke and some types of cancer.

Statistics and estimates of the indicators does provide valuable information for policy makers, which allows them to monitor progress and make decisions about current health risks and problems in the public (Brownson, Chiriqui, and Stamatakis, 2009) This is evident through the US Department of Health and Human Service who initiated a national partnership that involves the federal government, the states, local communities and the private and public sectors to build ‘Healthy People’ 2020, which can impact these indicators (Pender, Murdough, and Parsons,2014).

2nd discussion to respond to:

Meagan’s post(Nurse Practitioner Perspective.)

Florida is a state with a unique population. A large percentage of its population is snow birds and retirees. Some of the strengths of this state include but are not limited to: low air pollution, low obesity rates, and low prevalence of cardiovascular related deaths (United Health Foundation, 2018). Some of the challenges of this state, again, include but are not limited to: a large number of the population being uninsured, an increased prevalence of physical inactivity, and a high level of incidence of salmonella (United Health Foundation, 2018).

I think one of the challenges of this population, not having insurance, has to do with their retirement status as well as a lack of awareness on how to access necessary resources. With Medicare not covering long-term care, hearing aids, dentures, etc. this is likely the root of many of the challenges of this area as well. The aforementioned likely play a predominant role in the lack of physical activity of this population.

Burdens of many of the health risk behaviors and disease are likely cost related. I think by the time people whom are uninsured go in to see a provider, their condition is much more progressed and severe than if they had been insured, feeling as if they could see a provider when the problem initially presented itself. With a lack of long term care coverage I think many people end up living in situations where they are simply getting by instead of thriving.

I think the information found on the America’s Health Rankings site is incredibly important to help guide health policy and the topics that are needing to be addressed.

Qualitative Research Evaluation

Qualitative Research Evaluation: Analysis, Critique, and Application

(Qualitative Research Evaluation)

Question description

I need the second half of my paper fixed I have to turn it in by tomorrow afternoon I will provide an article and the format it needs to be in and will provide the paper that was turned in PART B DID NOT PASS!!! Here are the instructions AND notes from the teacher:

B. Evaluate a primary qualitative research peer-reviewed journal article (suggested length of 3–5 pages) that has healthcare implications by doing the following:

1. Identify how the researcher addresses the five following areas of the selected journal article, using the attached “Evidence Table”:

• background or introduction

• review of the literature

• discussion of methodology

• data analysis

• researcher’s conclusion

2. Critique whether the evidence presented in each section of the journal article supports the researcher’s conclusion.

3. Explain the protection of human subjects and cultural considerations of the journal article.

4. Identify strengths and limitations of the study.

5. Describe how the evidence informs nursing practice.

C. Acknowledge sources, using APA-formatted in-text citations and references, for content that is quoted, paraphrased, or summarized.

Qualitative- and also subtypes- most often case study, others are grounded theory, phenomenology, and also descriptive subtypes.

Use the readings in module 3, chapter 6, to help you understand different methodologies researchers use.  Read your article as the researchers should tell you the methods they used to research their questions. Identifying research types and subtypes is a big concept.
Data Analysis

How did the researchers analyze the data collected?  Did they explain it enough for you to evaluate for external or internal validity? What statistical testing was used?  What analysis was discussed?  For quantitative studies examples include T-Test, ANOVA, Logistic Regression, Linear Regression, Chi-Square or descriptive statistics like frequencies, prevalence, and rates or incidence.  For qualitative studies the data is interviews or focus groups and the data is coded for themes and then analyzed based on the subtype.  If it is qualitative descriptive the sample is small and the subjective responses of the participants are usually reported without coding or analyses.
Conclusion

What are the conclusions of the researchers; do they make sense to you as a clinician?
A & B 2

Based on your analysis of the five areas in the table, assess whether the evidence presented in the research report supports the conclusion.

Begin by paraphrasing the author’s conclusion in a sentence; then, discuss how each of the first four sections of the research report described in the table (1 sentence each) supports the author’s conclusion (section 5).  Approximately 5 – 7 sentences total should be enough.

Hints:

Can these researchers make the conclusions that they made? Would anything else explain their results? Are there any other plausible explanations for their conclusions? Remember, you will want to justify your answer. Give a full paragraph on why or why not the evidence in the first four areas of the research paper supported the conclusion in section 5.

B 3

Identify the ethical principles that the researcher should have addressed prior to the study.  For example, what considerations should the researchers have addressed regarding informed consent, privacy, confidentiality, etc. for the specific subjects in the studies you chose to critique.  (1 – 2 paragraphs)

B 4

The strengths and limitations refer to the study design, not to the procedures or interventions being studied in the articles.  Consider things like sample size, level of research, quality of research, sampling strategy, and study design.  Also, consider what the author has stated in the last few sections of the research report regarding strengths and limitations.  (1 – 2 paragraphs)

B 5

Please discuss how the results of the study you selected impacts nursing practice.  (1 – 2 paragraphs)

Include a reference page and in-text citations where appropriate.

Assessing Sexual Function

Assessing Sexual Function: Tools and Reflections

(Assessing Sexual Function)

Assessing sexual function requires a multifaceted approach encompassing physical, psychological, and relational aspects. Several tools aid in this process, including standardized questionnaires like the International Index of Erectile Function (IIEF) for men and the Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI) for women. These tools quantify various domains such as desire, arousal, orgasm, and satisfaction, providing a structured framework for evaluation.

However, reflection is equally crucial in understanding sexual function. Clinicians must consider cultural, social, and individual factors influencing sexual health. Open-ended discussions allow patients to express concerns beyond the scope of standardized assessments, fostering a deeper understanding of their unique experiences.

Moreover, a holistic approach acknowledges the interconnectedness of sexual function with mental health, relationship dynamics, and overall well-being. Clinicians should be attuned to signs of distress or dysfunction that may not be captured by quantitative measures alone.

In conclusion, while tools like the IIEF and FSFI offer valuable insights, a comprehensive assessment of sexual function necessitates both quantitative evaluation and qualitative reflection, ensuring personalized care that addresses the diverse needs of individuals and their relationships.

I need a short paper written. I provided a description along with the Rubic and link for the website to review.

“The FSFI is a brief questionnaire measure of sexual functioning in women. It was developed for the specific purpose of assessing domains of sexual functioning (e.g., sexual arousal, orgasm, satisfaction, pain) in clinical trials. It is not a measure of sexual experience, knowledge, attitudes, or interpersonal functioning in women. It was not designed for use as a diagnostic instrument and should not be used as a substitute for a complete sex history in clinical evaluation.”

  • Another assessment tool is used for men. Review the sexual function assessments provided. Feel free to take them yourselves and score according to directions. You do not have to share your scores but can incorporate your own personal reflections in your paper. After viewing the assessments, share thoughts and comments regarding use of the assessments in gathering information on sexual function. Do you feel the assessment was an appropriate tool? If so, why, and how could it be beneficial? If not, what were the drawbacks of the assessments?
