Mucormycosis: Intervention and Treatment

Mucormycosis: Intervention and Treatment

(Mucormycosis: Intervention and Treatment)

comment1

Mucor is a mold that causes a serious fungal infection. Mucormycosis most commonly affects the sinuses or lungs and affects people with weakened immune systems.  It infects the sinuses or lungs after inhaling fungal spores from the air, or can enter the skin through a cut, scrape, burn, or other skin injury.  This group of fungi lives in most soil, especially decaying leaves, composite piles, or rotten wood.  People come in contact with this frequently but may do not often develop mucormycosis unless they are immune compromised, then the fungi gets into their sinuses or lungs, develops an infection and spreads to other areas of the body and they are unable to fight it off (Cdcgov. (2015)).  The infection starts with signs of a fever, cough sometimes with dark or bloody sputum, and shortness of breath, it then progresses and rapidly multiplies in blood vessel walls.  When the fungus reaches the alveoli in the lungs, it travels into the spaces between the cells and the connecting pores.  The immune system is then triggered to send the white blood cells (neutrophils) to try and fight off the invasion of the fungus.  The neutrophils then try to do their job while at the same time are releasing cytokines which activate the immune system.  This is when the pneumonia sets in and just continues to take over as the alveoli fill with fluid leaking from the surrounding blood vessels which results in impaired oxygen transportation (Wikipediaorg. (2018)).

Medical/Nursing interventions:

1)      Educate the patient on the importance of taking their medication as prescribed and to finish the entire dose.

2)      Apply Oxygen as needed to help ease the symptoms of dyspnea

3)      Control any underlying immune compromised condition if possible

comment2

The attending physician will prescribe an antifungal treatment for mucormycosis. Prescription antifungals will be used such as amphotericin B, posaconazole or isavulcaonazole (CDC, 2015). Antifungal therapies can be administered IV and oral depending on the medication. Treatment can also involve surgical debridement of the infected area. The chest X-ray in the case study shows areas in the lungs that are infected and potentially necrotic, requiring surgical intervention. Lastly, appropriate treatment of any other debilitating diseases should be addressed, such as diabetes and infections, other than mucormycosis.

Spring 2017 | Craig Fredin

This handout helps explain your class project. Your task is to develop a creative project that demonstrates/comments on one of the social psychological phenomena we have covered in class (attitudes, attitude change, conformity, obedience, compliance). I encourage to you to scan through the chapters and explore different social theories, concepts, famous experiments, etc. Find some area of social psychology you have an interest in and further explore that area (i.e. Milgram’s experiment, cognitive dissonance, implicit bias, altruism, Prisoner’s Dilemma, etc). Projects that bring together multiple phenomena are especially encouraged.

You should use any artistic medium you wish (photography, video, graphic design, prose, poetry, electronic art/design, visual art, etc). The goal is to have you merge your creative side with your scholarly side and integrate social psychology into your everyday life.

PROPOSAL (Due 2/12): Post/submit in the “Project Proposal” area of canvas a 1-2 page paper describing your project in detail. Address the medium you will be using, the phenomena you will be examining and the general concept of the project. You may submit your proposal early to get a jump start on the project.

I will be keeping track of your progress via gentle prying, prodding and nagging. Please make a good effort to begin your work early. Contact me with any questions, comments or concerns.

Pictures of yourself reading the textbook

Projects that are irrelevant to social psychology

Projects in poor taste (e.g. extremely violent or obscene material)

Projects that involve breaking the law, cheating, harming others, or placing others at ri

More ideas will be posted in the next week. Contact Instructor with ideas to discuss. Remember, you must get approval for your topic by instructor and the project proposal must be completed before due day/time before proceeding with project.

Prevention Strategies.

Prevention Strategies.

(Prevention Strategies.)

Treatment programs cannot always be 100% effective, and many substance abusers relapse into drug abuse after days, months, or even years of sobriety. With the marginal success of treatment programs, it is even more important that people never start using drugs. As such, prevention strategies are of utmost importance.

Case Study Part I Aaliyah is a 25-year-old, single, Caucasian woman, who lives in an apartment with a friend. Aaliyah moved out of her parents’ house at 18, after completing high school, to remove herself from her father’s alcohol use. Aaliyah smokes cigarettes and drinks alcohol occasionally. Aaliyah is dissatisfied with her current job. She works full time as an administrative assistant at a contracting company, but she is ready for a career change. Aaliyah has decided to return to school to pursue a degree in criminal justice. She will be working and taking classes at the same time, fitting her school schedule around her work schedule. During her first session of school, Aaliyah notices that she is having difficulty staying awake to complete her schoolwork at night after a full workday. Aaliyah does not want her grades to fall, as her education is very important to her. However, she cannot afford to reduce her work hours. Her roommate makes Aaliyah coffee at night to help her stay awake. Soon, Aaliyah is drinking three or more cups of coffee a night to help her stay awake to complete her schoolwork.

Case Study Part II Aaliyah continues to struggle with balancing her work hours and her schoolwork. She has been drinking coffee to help her stay awake, but it is no longer working. She has an exam coming up and needs to stay up to study. Aaliyah decides to take an amphetamine to stay awake to study for the exam. She promises herself that she will only take it this one time for the exam. The drug allows her to stay awake and alert while she is studying for the exam. She also feels that she is learning the material better as a result of the amphetamine. When the grades are in, Aaliyah receives an A on her work. As the semester continues, Aaliyah turns to amphetamines more and more often to help her stay awake to complete her schoolwork. Soon, Aaliyah finds that one pill no longer keeps her awake as long as she needs. She starts taking more than one pill at a time. She knows that taking amphetamines so often is not good for her health, and she finds she experiences an increase in headaches when she takes them, but she continues to take them because they are helping her be successful in school and at work.

Case Study Part III Aaliyah had been taking amphetamines regularly for two months and had been experiencing the physiological, psychological, and toxic effects of chronic amphetamine use. She had started drinking alcohol to help her sleep at night. One morning she was driving to work and feeling the effects of a hangover from the night before. She was not concentrating on the road, and ran into the back of a car that had stopped in front of her. Luckily, none of the people involved in the accident was seriously injured. Page 2 of 2 Introduction to Addictions and Addictive Behavior ©2011 Argosy University Online Programs Case Study Details 2 This incident served as a “wake up call” for Aaliyah, and she decided to get help for her problems. However, because she is now using both amphetamines and alcohol, she is not sure what treatment program to enter. Aaliyah would like to help other people avoid the troubles caused by drugs. She would like to give a presentation at her college to discuss her experiences and give students several prevention options, as well as ways to tell if their friends or loved ones have a drug problem.

Review the case study. Using your module readings and the Argosy University online library resources, research methods of increasing awareness about substance abuse and dependence.

Develop a PowerPoint presentation including the following:

  • Identify and describe two prevention strategies.
  • Explain ways of determining whether loved ones have a problem with drugs using the current DSM characteristics of substance use disorders.
  • Address the effectiveness of current treatment strategies in the United States.
  • Explain polypharmacology
  • Address the possible treatment options and treatment difficulties for someone who is dependent on two substances.

Develop an 8–10-slide presentation (complete with speakers notes) in PowerPoint format. Apply APA standards to citation of sources. Be sure to include a title slide and a list of references.

Annotated Bibliography: Multi-Generational Families

How To Do This Annotated Bibliography On Multi-Generational Families

(Annotated Bibliography: Multi-Generational Families)

I need help with an annotated bibliography on a topic I chose for my paper.

The topic I have chosen for my annotated bibliography is the psychological impact of the re-emerging trend of multigenerational living.

I have the peer-reviewed journals I am using in pdf form. The instructions for the assignment are below.

An APA formatted Annotated Bibliography of at least 6 peer-reviewed, evidence-based academic journal articles. This assignment requires a properly formatted title page, an abstract page and a Reference citation for each article followed by a brief summary (or “annotation”) of what the article is about.  An annotated bibliography is more than just a list of articles; that is what would go on Reference List.

Instead each article listing in an annotated bibliography must be followed by a 2 to 3 paragraph summary of the article’s contents (i.e., what the research questions were, who the study participants were, what data was collected and in what format it was collected in (e.g., surveys or interviews), what was found in the study and what limitations of the study were highlighted by the authors.) Remember you are writing succinct, short synopses of each article since the term “Annotated” means that each source listed must include directly below its reference information the description of what the source covers.  After each source description, please conclude with a  short statement (2 to 3 paragraphs long) of how the respective source is related to one or more of your other sources and how they link to your overall topic.  Merely copying the article’s abstract and submitting it as an annotation is  prohibited, and will result in a zero score. Also quoting isn’t needed or accepted for this assignment either. Instead summarize the aforementioned information in your own words.

This assignment must be completed per the course general writing standards, in APA format and show evidence of meaning making after engagement with the articles.  It requires a title page and abstract. Your paper should be at least 5 pages. You will  NOT include a reference page. You will have included full reference information above each annotation entry as provided for you in the week 2 lesson sample. The title page and abstract do not count in the 5 page minimum length, but if you include all of the required information, each of your annotation entries will be about 3/4ths of a page since:You will have the reference information double spaced above each annotation in proper APA format      You will then have the  single spaced annotations of 2 to 3 paragraphs containing the required information below each reference      And then you will have a one paragraph statement of each articles relevance to each other and to your overall topic at the end of the annotation.

Blogging Mental Health Impact

Blogging Mental Health Impact: Nurses’ Collaboration

(Blogging Mental Health Impact)

Blogging can profoundly impact mental health, especially for nurses who engage in collaborative efforts. Through blogging, nurses can share experiences, struggles, and triumphs, fostering a sense of community and support. Collaborative blogging allows nurses to pool their diverse perspectives, expertise, and coping strategies, enriching the discourse on mental health within the profession. By openly discussing challenges such as burnout, compassion fatigue, and stress, nurses can validate each other’s experiences and offer practical solutions. Moreover, collaborative blogging promotes professional growth and resilience by encouraging reflective practice and peer learning. It creates a platform for nurses to advocate for systemic changes in healthcare policies and workplace environments to better support mental well-being. Ultimately, through collaborative blogging, nurses can break down stigma, build solidarity, and cultivate a culture of empathy and understanding within their community, enhancing both individual and collective mental health.

Please Answer Base In This Answer In APA Format .Write At Least 250 Words , Please Answer The Comments By Number And List Your Answers Please, Thank You

1-At little or no cost, anyone can set up a blog. A quick web search shows there are many people blogging about their personal experience of mental health problems – sharing information and experiences, and offering tips to others (Drake, & Leander, 2013, p. 270). One example is The Depressed Moose, a blog about an individual’s battle with depression, his thoughts and feelings and his ideas about improving his state of mind. His posts aim to inspire others, especially those battling depression. He emphasizes the importance of being honest and open (Drake, & Leander, 2013, p. 270).

2-   I agree with the fact that we enter our nursing careers with the mindset of making a difference. With the help of networking we are able to achieve so much more because we could include other aspects of the health care. Having others that are readily available when their help is needed would make this impact possible. Collaborating with others can be very beneficial being that it may also open doors and gather input from others to make an even bigger impact in our profession.

3-Having gone through the benfits of joining the nursing organization which ranges from constant education to upgrade our knowledge, organizing webners, seminars that are important for our development, opportunity to interact with colleagues that share the same mission and vision which is to improve health for all, promoting awareness on matters as it relates to nursing, creating an avenue for nurses to express their feelings, having access to medical journals to stay current in the practice etc. I see no reason why i would not join the ANA organisation or its affiliate just like you as i have never been a member before so as to enjoy the benefit of being an active member

For this assignment, students will investigate and propose a psychiatric diagnosis based on the case study from the Gorenstein and Comer (2015) textbook Case Studies in Abnormal Psychology, chosen in the Week One “Initial Call” discussion. This paper will include an in-depth overview of the disorder(s) within the diagnosis, treatment options for the diagnosis, and a sound rationale that explains why this diagnosis was made. Note that the diagnosis may include more than one psychiatric disorder.

The paper must present a thorough overview of each disorder within the diagnosis. Assume the audience has no prior knowledge of the disorder(s) within the diagnosis, and provide relevant and easy to understand explanations of each for the readers. When writing the paper, it is critical to convey all the necessary information in a straightforward manner using non-technical language. (Reference the Professional Voice and Writing (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site. resource provided by the Ashford Writing Center for assistance.) Support the analysis with at least five peer-reviewed sources published within the last ten years in addition to the course text.

The Psychiatric Diagnosis topical paper must include the following:

  • Explain psychological concepts in the patient’s presentation using professional terminology. Identify symptoms and behaviors exhibited by the patient in the chosen case study.
  • Match the identified symptoms to potential disorders in a diagnostic manual.
  • Propose a diagnosis based on the patient’s symptoms and the criteria listed for the disorder(s) in the diagnostic manual.
  • Analyze and explain how the patient meets criteria for the disorder(s) according to the patient’s symptoms and the criteria outlined in the diagnostic manual.
  • Justify the use of the chosen diagnostic manual (i.e., Why was this manual chosen over others?).
  • Summarize general views of the diagnosis from multiple theoretical orientations and historical perspectives. Include a discussion on comorbidity if the diagnosis includes more than one disorder.
  • Evaluate symptoms within the context of an appropriate theoretical orientation for this diagnosis.
  • Use at least two peer-reviewed articles to assess the validity of this diagnosis, and describe who is most likely to have the diagnosis with regard to age, gender, socioeconomic status, sexual orientation, and ethnicity. Provide a brief evaluation of the scientific merit of these peer-reviewed sources in the validity assessment.
  • Summarize the risk factors (i.e., biological, psychological, and/or social) for the diagnosis. If one of the categories is not relevant, address this within the summary.
  • Compare evidence-based and non-evidence-based treatment options for the diagnosis.
  • Evaluate well-established treatments for the diagnosis, and describe the likelihood of success or possible outcomes for each treatment.
  • Create an annotated bibliography of five peer-reviewed references published within the last ten years to inform the diagnosis and treatment recommendations. In the annotated bibliography, write a two- to three-sentence evaluation of the scientific merit of each of these references. Enhancing Learning Objectives Precision

Enhancing Learning Objectives Precision

(Enhancing Learning Objectives Precision)

Please Answer Base In This Answer In APA Format .Write At Least 250 Words , Please Answer The Comments By Number And List Your Answers Please, Thank You

1-I think “Specificity” is the main word in writing learning objectives. It helps participants to know what the training is all about and what needs to be done at the end of the training. In your last paragraph, I think you use the nursing process, which I think is a good one. At the end of the training, the feedback is what will help the trainer to know if the learning objectives are achieved or not. Any changes that needed to be made will be made and any additional training or explanation might also be applicable.

2-Based on what I’ve gathered from the reading, it’s very important to understand the learning abilities of the participants involved. Clear and measurable behavioral learning objectives are the foundation for planning an educational activity when it comes to engaging both patient and family members. The use an action verb to specify the behavior change you expect to be able to measure as a result of the learning. The verb should correspond with what opportunities are given for the participants to demonstrate the newly learned information. A learning objective is measurable when the participant can perform a task (list) identified in the learning objective (NHNA, 2016).

An example of a clear and measurable learning objective would be if the participants were able to “List three significant risk factors that leads to metabolic syndrome”.

Guidelines for Writing Learning Objectives. Retrieved from: http://www.nhnurses.org/Especially-for-You/CE-Resources/Writing-Objectives-Guidelines.pdf

3-Your birthing class experience is a perfect example. It shows, as you mentioned, many different levels of education needed. I think the one objective you mentioned that you would add is valid. This would key the class in to observing what type of pain control would really work best for them. Many people may have entered the class not realizing there are different options of pain control, so they may have missed this information. As you mentioned, teaching a group of people can present more challenges with different levels of needs and learning styles.
