Your task for the Term Paper is to analyze the issue described in the article using the economic concepts and theory learned in this class. Refer to the course content materials and use specific economic vocabulary within your term paper. The article you choose may not use these exact terms; therefore, it is incumbent upon you to convert the article language into economic language as is appropriate.

Include at least one graph developed in our course.

Introduction

This unit will focus on how counselors assess their clients during the initial stages of the counseling process. How will you gather the information that will assist in describing the client’s presenting issues; current level of functioning; strengths and limitations; risk factors; characteristic patterns of thinking, feeling, and behaving; and possible areas for focus in the counseling process? Much of this information may come from a structured initial interview or biopsychosocial assessment, which frequently occurs during the first intake session. Counselors also use more formal types of assessments in early sessions, such as a mental status exam, depression/anxiety inventories, symptom checklists, or other self-report measures.

Having familiarity with the range of assessment instruments and processes available to counselors and understanding when they can be used to produce reliable and valid information to assist in the counseling process are important parts of professional development. Your site supervisor can discuss your current fieldwork site’s approach to assessment and may also be able to provide more information about the way other agencies or practitioners in your area approach using methods to assess clients, track their progress, and evaluate therapy outcomes.

To successfully complete this learning unit, you will be expected to:

I have selected the Beck Depression Inventory for this paper.

Utilize one or more specific methods of assessment with a client you are working with at your fieldwork site. Ask your site supervisor to assist you in selecting an assessment that is appropriate for your client and that is currently used at your site (such as the Beck Depression Inventory, Beck Anxiety Inventory, mental status exam, biopsychosocial assessment, ecomap, genogram, or another developed assessment instrument).

If your fieldwork site does not use any methods for a formal evaluation process with clients, select at least one assessment tool that you believe would be appropriate for your client, and discuss its use with your site supervisor.  A structured interview, biopsychosocial assessment, and genogram are less intrusive methods of assessment than using a developed instrument and should be discussed as possibilities with the site supervisor. Once you have permission from your supervisor to use this assessment method, set up a time to administer it with your client.

After you have collected client, couple, or family data using the various assessment tools given to you by your agency or organization (as well as any other assessment tool from your readings, with your site supervisor’s approval), synthesize, summarize, and write your assessment of the client, in a 3–4 page paper that:

As a Speech
As it is in the other two options, your speech should be creative, interesting, and demonstrate what you have learned throughout the project. Your speech should be 8 to 10 minutes in length and include a typed handout.

Remember, you have been named the Administrative Director at  Happy Medical Center (HMC) and will be presenting your PPT to the Board of Directors at HMC for approval. HMC is restructuring to meet the current needs of their consumers.

There are several roles in a health care organization. Often, interdisciplinary teams are created to brainstorm or make important decisions. The key is to develop a team that will interact with one another effectively and being diverse views to the forefront.

Part 1:

We have discussed several types of departments/roles in health care organization, (e.g., inpatient, outpatient, clinical, non-clinical, etc.)  For your Module 4 assignment you are to create an interdisciplinary team of 5 or 6 six individuals that will discuss and development an action plan for the restructuring of HMC. In 5 or 6 additional slides, you are to explain to the board the following:

  1. Explain the importance of interdisciplinary teams
  2. Identify 5 or 6 individuals (titles of roles) and corresponding departments (i.e. Title: Inpatient Admission Director; Department: Inpatient) that you recommend to be a part of an interdisciplinary team to assist with the restructuring of HMC.
  3. Justify why these select individuals will be beneficial part of the team.

Part 2:

To conclude your PPT to the board of directors, you are to develop a new Vision and Mission of HMC. Your Vision and Mission should support or be interrelated with the selected 5 (five) of the pillars of success from Module 3.

At this point (with the continuation of slides from Module 1, 2, and 3 assignments), your total presentation should be at least 20-25 slides (not including the title and reference slide). Speaker notes are required.

In planning the answer, you should prepare an outline or a list of points for discussion in a logical fashion. Be sure that the points are sufficient to answer the question. The essay should begin with a topic sentence that restates the question in declarative form. You should provide supportive information with specific detail to illustrate your points. References to readings and notes are always helpful. The essay should end by drawing appropriate conclusions. Please be sure to reread and recheck your essay for clarity, construction, errors, and to be sure that the answer makes a clear statement. You should properly cite all your sources, including textbooks and any other sources you use to develop your answer.

You are required to answer all four (4) questions. Your answers should be about 500 words in length.

  1. What set the Puritans (who arrived in America in 1630) apart from other early English colonists? During the first century of settlement they faced many challenges. Discuss these challenges and the Puritans’ responses to them.
  2. In 17th century North America the French, Spanish, Dutch, and English all jockeyed to obtain a share in the New World while the Native Americans fought to hang to what had once been theirs alone. The Africans became unwilling participants in this international contest. What were some of the long-term effects of the cross-cultural exchanges among these groups? Discuss both specific benefits and negative aspects in detail, illustrating your answer with examples from your reading.
  3. If you were a well-to-do 17th century European or Englishman looking to make a financial investment in the American colonies, would you choose to put your money in the New England area or the Chesapeake? How did the two areas differ in terms of family structure, work, class, religion, and state building? What impact would these things have on your decision to invest and why?
  4. In 1719 Daniel Defoe published his novel Robinson Crusoe. Set in 1651, the hero explains his circumstances:

If colonial America differed from England because it offered greater opportunities to both those of “desperate fortunes” or “superior fortunes”, the degree to which one could take advantage of these opportunities depended upon gender, race, ethnicity, and religion.
