algebra class forum 150 words the cost of driving

Hi Tutors!

Please, help with math forum:

One common type of calculation that is made frequently out there in the real world is a “fixed and variable cost problem” – it’s a “lump and per” scenario. You pay a fixed cost (or a lump sum) to rent the car, or have phone service. Then, in addition, you have to pay a variable cost (so much per mile or per minute). People use math all the time (or should!) to decide which company has the best plan for their needs.

For the purposes of this Forum, we are going to discuss a subject near and dear to everyone’s heart these days – the price of operating your vehicle. To do this, we need to collect three types of data – our fixed costs, our variable costs and our usage. If you either don’t own a car just borrow a friend’s data or use a hypothetical example based on internet research. One student even did the analysis on his aircraft carrier!
Please click on Start a New Conversation and make the subject of your post your car’s year and model (2012 Toyota Camry, Brooklyn, NY), so that people can tell at a glance which postings might be of the most interest to them.

Presenting data to others in a clear and understandable fashion is an important skill for many people in the workplace, not just mathematicians. For your initial post give a full and complete answer to the following questions in outline form, following this model. Be sure to actually answer the questions – do not get sidetracked on the current prices at the gas pump. Your initial post should be at least 150 words.

Although most Americans view their car expenses as an inevitable part of life and not part of their actual car calculations, we are going to figure out what our car expenses really are.

A – What are your fixed monthly car expenses? (1 point)

I want you to add up all the payments that you must make (car payment, garage rent, license tags, insurance, etc.)–regardless of whether or not old Betsy ever emerges from the garage. If you only pay insurance once a year then divide that number by 12 to add it to your monthly fixed expenses. You don’t have to share the specifics if you would prefer not to–you can just give the total.

B – What are your variable monthly car expenses? (1 point)
Add up your variable expenses—the ones that depend on how many miles you drive the car. Don’t get into the nitty-gritty of your car’s miles per gallon—just give an approximation of what you spend each month on variable expenses (gas, oil, washer fluid, car washes, etc.).

C – What is your total cost per month? (1 point)

Add your fixed and variable costs together.

D – Approximately how many miles do you drive a month? (1 point)

All of the discussion in the media is about the price of gasoline per gallon, but to calculate your personal cost, a more relevant statistic for you is your cost per mile. That is one of the things that you should consider when you decide whether or not to drive home for lunch.

E – Divide C by D to figure your cost per mile. (1 point)

Pay attention here. If the money is more than the miles, the cost is over $1.00 per mile – if the miles are more than the money, the cost is under $1.00 per mile. What is your cost per mile?

Surprised? One student did the calculations wrong and got that she was spending $316.00 a mile. That would go way beyond surprised!

F – What changes might you make to save money on your total car expenses? (1 point)

Another student lived in a big city and only used the car on weekends. When he finished the calculations, he cut a deal with a local car rental company, sold his car, and wound up renting a very nice car every weekend for less than he was spending on a car of his own

DO NOT Post questions regarding Genocide. The purpose of this reading is to focus on what happened to the children when they were in school and what were the consequences of their treatment. OMIT GENOCIDE unless it is in reference to the long and short term consequences for the children.

For the Discussions write 8 questions using the following guidelines:

1. What was the main theme or purpose of the readings? What problems or concerns were identified? How does this information change the way you perceive history or the interactions between peoples and groups in history? 2 questions

2. How do the Additional Sources support the chapter? 2 questions

business continuity policy statement

You have been hired as a consultant to design BCP for SanGrafix, a video and PC game design company. SanGrafix’s newest game has become a hot seller, and the company anticipates rapid growth. It’s moving into a new facility and will be installing a new network. Because competition is fierce in the game industry, SanGrafix wants to be fully secured, documented, and maintained while providing high availability, scalability, and performance.

Based on your current technology and information security knowledge, for this project you will design a BCP based off of the company profile below:
A. Primary location in San Francisco, CA
B. Secondary location/hot site in Sunnyvale, CA
C. Capable of supporting 220 users in these departments: Accounting and Payroll, 16; Research and Development, 48; Sales and Marketing, 40; Order Processing, Shipping, and Receiving, 36; secretarial and office management staff, 20; upper management (including the president, vice president, and general manager), 10; Customer Relations and Support, 30; Technology Support, 20.
D. Full OC3 Internet connection

First step is to issue a clear policy statement on the Business Continuity Plan. At a minimum, this statement should contain the following instructions:

  • The organization should develop a comprehensive Business Continuity Plan.
  • A formal risk assessment should be undertaken in order to determine the requirements for the Business Continuity Plan.
  • The Business Continuity Plan should cover all essential and critical business activities.
  • The Business Continuity Plan should be periodically tested in a simulated environment to ensure that it can be implemented in emergency situations and that the management and staff understand how it is to be executed.
  • All staff must be made aware of the Business Continuity Plan and their own respective roles.
  • The Business Continuity Plan is to be kept up to date to take into account changing circumstances.

Answer the following questions based on what you read in Chapter 7.

  1. Describe three principles of direct manipulation.
  2. Give four benefits of direct manipulation. Also, list four problems of direct manipulation.
  3. Examining the success of video games can provide insight for interface designers. Explain what lessons can be learned by video games for interface design, but also provide examples of areas where it is ineffective to do so.
  4. An airline company is designing a new online reservation system. They want to add some direct-manipulation features. For example, they would like customers to click a map to specify the departure cities and the destinations, and to click on the calendar to indicate their schedules. From your point of view, list four benefits and four problems of the new idea compared with their old system, which required the customer to do the job by typing.

a health problem that is currently affecting your community

Before you start, look over the instructions for the Unit 3 Assignment. This Discussion will assist with forming your responses for the Assignment.

First, think about a health problem that you find interesting, such as a disease outbreak, chronic condition (heart disease, diabetes, etc.), or common injury in a population (falling among seniors, occupational injuries, etc.). You could also choose a health problem that is currently affecting your community.

Next, choose and research an organization that is part of the public health system (local, state, federal or global health organization, non-governmental organization, or other organization) that is addressing the health problem.

For your initial response to the Discussion, provide a brief description of the public health problem and the organization you have chosen. How is the organization actively addressing the health problem? Who are the stakeholders in the community that the organization might reach out to in partnership to address the problem?

Your two peer replies should ask probing questions about the organization or the health problem that is being addressed by your peers. You can also make additional suggestions to your peers regarding other stakeholders or organizations that might be appropriate to include when addressing the public health problem.

Be sure to include a list of credible references to support your response.

Classmate Post #1

Hello everyone,

This was a very interesting topic to discuss this week, because I got to see all different types of organizations, and how many of them come together to help the community. The health problem I decided to choose was diabetes. I found a few different organizations that target diabetes, since it is such a large and deadly problem. The organization I chose was CDC’s Division of Diabetes Translation (DDT). Diabetes is a disease when the human body cannot produce or respond to insulin. Since diabetes is such a large problem, with 729 million people in the United States suffering from it, I decided it was an issue that needed to be paid attention to (“Diabetes Home,” 2018). Many people have prediabetes, while other people do not even know that they have it. It is important for people to know whether or not they have diabetes, so they can get the proper treatment. If gone un-treated, this can lead to heart disease, strokes, blindness, amputations, and even death.

The DDT program helps people with diabetes by funding states and local health departments to support their programs and activities that they provide. These programs and activities being supported and funded, help prevent or delay type 2 diabetes. Funding from the organization also goes towards improving any health outcomes for people suffering from diabetes. Funding programs in local communities and all the different states is extremely important, because it can help people who are struggling financially get help for their disease. In my opinion, people should not have to worry about their health with diabetes just because they are unable to afford help. This organization is great at helping address the problem of diabetes by not only targeting diabetes, but also targeting other diseases that can cause diabetes as well. This organization is about prevention, so that people can get the support they need without also worrying about being diagnoses with other diseases due to diabetes. DDT will help with the funding of obesity programs as well, so that people have a less likely chance to become obese, which can develop into having diabetes.

The stakeholders in the community that the organization would reach out to would be the specific state’s health department. State health departments are in charge of certain support groups and support activities that the organization would be funding. This organization also helps schools that are having diabetes and obesity problems. This would mean that another stakeholder that the organization would reach out to would be the school’s super intendent or principals of schools. Community programs are the main source to help people suffering from diabetes; so, this would mean that anyone that is in charge of support programs would be the people to talk to about setting up funds from the organization.

Classmate Post #2

For this discussion topic, I chose to research Polycystic Kidney Disease. Not because I think it’s interesting but because I know I need to educate myself on it. PKD runs in my family and I have always avoided going to get myself checked. My grandfather on my mother’s side was diagnosed with it and passed very young, when my mother was only 16 years old. My mother inherited the disease, and just recently my brother had an accident at work and when he went to the doctor, they diagnosed him as well.

PKD is defined as a genetic disorder that causes many fluid-like cysts to grow in your kidneys (National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases, 2017). The Polycystic Kidney Disease Foundation is the only organization in the U.S. solely dedicated to finding treatments and a cure for PKD to improve the lives of those it affects (PKD Foundation, 2018). Thankfully, On April 24, 2018 the FDA granted approval of Jynarque to be the first treatment in the U.S. for adult patients with PKD (PKD Foundation, 2018). Not only did the PKD Foundation support early studies that led to the development of Jynarque, they also helped guide patients to the clinical trials. If the PKD Foundation isn’t already partnered with the Otsuka Pharmaceuticals, who developed Jynarque, they will be in the near future to spread the word of this treatment.

literature review on a theory

Assignment Instructions:

This assignment serves as a building block for your final thesis proposal. For this literature review you need to select a substantive theory, either something that we discussed in the lesson, or something outside of the course, and focus your literature review around that theory. Your theory selection should make sense with the research question you intend to assess within your final research proposal. Since this is a literature review focused on a particular topic (i.e. the substantive theory) you will need to discuss the current state of the literature specific to that theory (for example, deterrence theory, social identity theory, and etc). You’ll want to start with a discussion on the early conceptualizations of the theory and how it has developed overtime. your conclusion should include a discussion on where the research on that theory needs to go next. What are some questions that remain? What new ways should it be applied?

Format: Standard academic format will suffice: 1-inch borders on all four sides, double spaced, with times new roman 12-point font. As with all academic assignments (unless otherwise specified) you must include a references section and list your references.

This literature review should include a critical review of at least 9-10 scholarly/peer-reviewed articles.

Since multiple writing styles are in use within this course, on your title page, please note which style you are using within your assignment. This will help me cater my comments to the style you are using. The style you use need to be the one that is used within your program of study.

Total pages: 5 complete pages in length not including title page, or references.

I have also attached a synthesis matrix that should help you organize your notes as you go, as well as the grading rubric for this assignment.

As you proof read your assignment I encourage you to work with Belcher, Wendy Laura. 2009. “Editing Your Sentences” In Writing Your Journal Article in 12 Weeks: A Guide to Academic Publishing Success. Sage. This resource has a nice step by step process for enhancing your writing.

easy history essay diary entries

THIS IS A US HISTORY COLLEGE PAPER

POST CIVIL WAR CLASS

PROMPT:

The following is an exercise in historical role play. You are a lieutenant in either the French Lafayette Escadrille or the American Flying Service in the First World War–make it clear which entity you represent. You have completed your training to become a fighter pilot and have reported to your squadron. Your commanding officer has ordered you to keep a journal of your experiences. Pretend you are writing over a six-week period–that means you will have 6 entries on one essay. Separate each entry by date. The reason for six entries is that the average lifespan of a pilot in the First World War was six weeks. In each of the first five entries, describe the life of a First World War fighter pilot. Describe your daily life and discuss your successes and your fears. What kind of plane do you fly? What kind of weapons do you use? How does it feel to be in the air? What’s combat like? The more details, the better. Be sure to mention the lives of your fellow squadron members. Remember to stay in character–authenticity counts, as does attention to factual detail. Importantly: In your final, sixth entry, your squadron commander (give him a name and rank) must write a letter to your family describing how your character–meaning you, the pilot–died in combat. This means your character must die in order for you to get any credit at all for this assignment.

RULES:

1) Special Discussion Board Questions should be answered in essay form, providing the type of depth and detail expected in a research paper. You should take the time to explain complicated concepts in a thorough and thoughtful manner. Remember, you need to demonstrate an understanding of events–not only in terms of what happened but also why it happened and what effect it had on society. Remember to answer each part of your question as well.

2) Stay on target—answer the questions as fully as possible and don’t wander off the subject—doing so will hurt your grade. You are not required to respond to any other person’s post.

3) To answer each Special Discussion Question you are required to use resources other than your textbook and you are required to provide a list of those sources at the end of your post. This means you may need to take a trip to your local library or conduct an online search or two before you have the information necessary for you to compose your posting. DO NOT use any of the following as sources: your textbook, films or television programs (including documentaries and filmed courses), lectures, blogs, Twitter posts, or Facebook pages. I take off points if you do.

4) Be sure to cite your sources at the end of your posting. DO NOT use endnotes, footnotes, or any other form of source citation within the body of your post. I take off 50% of your grade if you do. Also, do not use phrases such as “According to Jones,…” because I count those as a form of in-text citation and grade accordingly.

5) DO NOT use quotes (and like all the other DO NOTS, I take off points for doing). I want to read your writing, not someone else’s. Read your sources and then write your essay in your own words.

6) Express yourself clearly. Use good grammar. Write in complete sentences. Do not use any of those abbreviations so commonly used on blogs and text messages. I suggest you compose your contribution on a word processing program with a spell-checker. Then cut and paste–or type it in. This may help you get out everything you want to say before you hit “submit.” Be sure to use at least 12 point type for your response so it can be read. And, no, you cannot edit your contributions after they are posted.

7) Carefully proofread and correct your post before submission. Be sure to check your spelling and capitalization, as those are the most common problems for which I take off points. Check your work again right before you hit submit.

8) Your contributions should have real substance to them. Contributions such as “Yeah, what she said.” or “I do so totally agree with what everyone has said” will receive zero (0) points. Posts should run 1,000 – 1,500 words in length–some will run more and some will run less. The rule of thumb here is to answer all parts of the question thoroughly and in detail (and you’ll be surprised how fast your essay grows as you write it, once you’ve done your research).
