(writing project/research paper)

Question description

The individual/team research project is designed to answer one key question:  using a unique theory of leadership, how does leadership and ethical behavior affect employee performance?

Phase I:

 TheoryHypotheses:

In this first phase, a theory is built about leadership behavior or leader ethical behavior and how those behaviors impact employee performance.  Using text material, research, readings, and in-depth interviews (each will interview at least 4 people; the people interviewed must be employed full-time and not attending our University, and hopefully, those interviewed will be as different from one another as possible).

The specific interview questions will be left up to you, but you should explore the interview subjects’ beliefs about which leadership or ethical behaviors are important, and how these behaviors affect employee performance.  Let them tell you what is important!  Do not provide a set of concepts for them!  For example, one interview question might be:  “When you think about times that you had good leadership, what specific leader behaviors contributed to how you performed?” or “When you think about good ethical leaders, what behaviors stand out as being particularly effective in changing employee behavior/performance?”  Your project can focus on the concepts in this course, but should go beyond those concepts as well.

Phase II:(writing project/research paper)

 Interview Method Description:

This section of your research paper should describe your interview participants (no names or other identifying information), the questions asked in the interviews, the participants’ responses to the interview questions, and the themes/concepts that emerged from the interviews.

Phase III: (writing project/research paper)

Incorporate Interview Data into Theory and Hypotheses:

Once your interviews are completed, you will distill the most interesting themes from your interviews and convert those into specific predictions that can be tested with data.  Hypotheses can focus on the concepts in this course, but (again) should go beyond these concepts as well.  Feel free to focus on the concepts that interest you or your team.  Incorporate your interview data into your Leadership Theory.  Explicitly show the changes you made to your original Leadership Theory based on the interviews.

Express your theory in diagram form.Phase IV:  Recommendations for practicing managers:  Use this section of your paper to make recommendations to practicing managers based on your theory and the interview data that you collected.  No two individuals/teams may present the same leadership theory.  To meet the threshold for a B grade, no fewer than 10, non-textbook, relevant references must be used and cited [use the APA Publication Manual for citation style; this is very important for electronic sources–Internet, etc.].  At least ten sources are required; with at least eight of those sources from current (2011-2015), reputable, peer-reviewed journals.  The other sources may include academic and professional periodicals, government publications (to include CD ROM resources), magazines, and newspaper articles.

All work submitted must be the original work of the student(s), and will be checked for originality using online software (Turnitin.com).  Plagiarism will result in a failing grade for the project, and possible for the course [see Cheating Policy].  This paper should be between 10 and 14 pages in length—hopefully no more than 15 pages.  Number all pages and use American Psychological Association (APA) format, 12-point font, double-spacing (LS = 2), paragraph indention, section headings, and submit in MS-Word format. It need include a title page, executive summary, research report body including introduction, theory/problem/issue, and recommendations/suggestions for managers, (at least one) graphic(s), and references page.  Grades will be based on scholarship, application of course material, use of course research concepts, coherence, reference quality, format, and grammatical correctness, and all research projects will be rated and/or ranked within the class, and grades assigned accordingly (in line with the ratings/rankings).  Your work should look business-like and professional. Written assignments displaying disproportionately poor grammar or a poor quality of written communication skills will be assigned a grade that is at least one letter grade lower than might otherwise have been assigned.  Use Turnitin.com (instructions to be provided in class) to establish the originality of all workBEFORE it is submitted for grading if requested by your instructor.  The Research Project will be due March 20EXAMPLES OF REPUTABLE JOURNALS (primarily in Management & Psychology, and mostly Peer-Reviewed):

Students will then choose one presentation (other than their own) to focus their review on. The review will describe the selected campaign, discuss campaign achievements, assess health promotion methods used and analyze if the selected methods are appropriate for each audience level. Lastly, students will identify and discuss an aspect of each campaign and its connection to the health communication campaign model; social marketing techniques; and/or advocacy concepts.

One discussion board post required (no peer response posts needed). Use the bulleted outline to help you organize your responses. Address each of the aspects below for full credit.

Describe the campaign you chose to review and why you were interested in learning more about this campaign.

What were/are two of the campaign outcomes (achievements/success) connected to the campaign goals/objectives included in the presentation? Describe. If the campaign outcomes were not included, research the outcomes. Were you able to locate any? Describe.

Looking at three different audience levels in the presentation (for example, individual, organizational, community) locate and share one health promotion method utilized for each level (three total).  If the presentation does not describe one for each level, source an additional method from the CDC website and describe.

Discuss and describe why the method may, or may not be, the best for that specific audience level. Use your text or additional source to support your reasoning.

Discuss and explain one other aspect of the campaign that is connected to steps of the health communication campaign model; social marketing techniques and/or advocacy concepts. Review Chapters 4, 5, 13 and 14 to help you.

As with other discussion board posts, APA citations and references are required. View the rubric description in BB week four.

Analyzing Aggregate Strengths & Weaknesses

Phase 3: Analyzing Aggregate Strengths & Weaknesses

(Analyzing Aggregate Strengths & Weaknesses)

In Phase 3 of analyzing aggregate strengths and weaknesses, we delve into the collective capabilities and deficiencies of an organization, team, or system.

Strengths often emerge in areas such as expertise, innovation, resource availability, and robust processes. For example, an organization might have a highly skilled workforce, leading to high-quality output and innovative solutions. Strong financial resources and advanced technological infrastructure also contribute to resilience and competitive advantage. Effective leadership and a strong organizational culture further enhance overall performance by fostering motivation and alignment with strategic goals.

Conversely, weaknesses can manifest as skill gaps, outdated technology, insufficient resources, and flawed processes. A common weakness is a lack of adaptability, which hampers responsiveness to market changes and emerging opportunities. Poor communication and collaboration within teams can lead to inefficiencies and errors. Additionally, over-reliance on key individuals or outdated systems can create vulnerabilities, reducing the organization’s ability to scale or innovate.

Understanding these strengths and weaknesses enables strategic planning and targeted improvements. Leveraging strengths helps to capitalize on opportunities and drive growth, while addressing weaknesses mitigates risks and enhances overall resilience and effectiveness. This comprehensive analysis forms the foundation for sustainable development and competitive positioning.

For Phase 3 of the Capstone project, analyze and describe the strengths and weaknesses of the aggregate
and the community where the aggregate resides.
Be sure to apply Mobilize, Assess, Plan, Implement, Track (MAP-IT) in your assessment process.

  • By the due date assigned, submit your response in a 1-page Microsoft Word document.
  • Support your responses with examples.
  • Cite all sources in APA format.

Phase 4: Risk Assessment

For Phase 4 of your project, you will select a family in your aggregate and complete a risk assessment in the field using the information from chapter 18 “Community as Client: Assessment and Analysis” and “Appendix D Friedman Family Assessment Model (Short Form)” as a guide. Describe how the family, environment, home, and risk assessments were conducted, using your course textbook as a reference.
Describe the results of the assessments, drawing conclusions about the health risks to the aggregate as you see them.

  • By the due date assigned, submit your response in a 2- to 3-page Microsoft Word document.
  • Support your responses with examples.

Evaluating BMI’s Accuracy Issues

Evaluating BMI’s Accuracy Issues

(Evaluating BMI’s Accuracy Issues)

To BMI or not to BMI—What the issues areThe calculation of Body Mass Index (BMI) is an important measurement  tool for determining relative disease risk for preventable conditions  like type 2 diabetes, hypertension, and heart disease. These conditions  may be controlled and/or prevented by maintaining a healthy weight  relative to height. For instance, the higher the BMI number above the  normal range (18-25), the greater the degree of overweight.

National indicators for obesity, as determined by the BMI report that  women are more likely to have higher BMI’s in comparison to men. In  addition, minority women including African Americans, Hispanics, and  Asian Americans are more likely to have a higher BMI in comparison to  white women. However, recent research suggests that current standards  for measuring BMI may not be accurate for African American women. Read  the article “Ethnic-Specific BMI and Waist Circumference Thresholds” and  create a 4- to 5-page report in Microsoft Word document that covers the  following:

  • Explain why the current BMI scale may not be an accurate measure of obesity for African American women.
  • How can these findings impact the manner in which physicians  communicate with their female patients about weight loss and disease  prevention? In your explanation, be sure to describe at least one  positive and one negative implication that these findings might have on  how physicians counsel their female patients regarding weight-loss.
  • What influence might these findings have on societal perceptions of body image and weight loss?
  • Explain how an accurate perception of body image is associated with appropriate weight-control behavior.
  • What social and cultural factors influence African American women’s risk of becoming obese?
  • What role do the media play in promoting healthy eating behaviors in women and girls?
  • What can be the implications for healthcare policy as a result of the findings of the study?

Wearing Multiple Hats

Wearing Multiple Hats

(Wearing Multiple Hats)

Sport psychology professionals (SPPs) often find themselves interacting with clients in different capacities, whether it is as a professor, a clinician, or a coach. SPPs also find themselves coexisting with clients in nonworking environments, such as traveling with teams, sharing living space, and in social arenas. The purpose of this assignment is to provide you with an opportunity to examine the complexities involved in placing yourself in situations where you have to wear multiple hats and learn to work and maneuver around professional and social settings.  Sport psychology puts you into an environment where you often find yourself   flip-flopping between professional counseling in an official setting (office) and counseling in a nontraditional setting (talking in the bleachers). The scenarios vary, but your professional duties do not.  For this assignment, read the following article from the Argosy University online library resources:  Brown, J. L., & Cogan, K. D. (2006). Ethical clinical practice and sport psychology: When two worlds collide. Ethics & Behavior, 16(1), 15–23.  Bearing in mind the importance of confidentiality in crowded scenarios and the multiple roles you need to play, answer the following questions:

•What are your opinions about an SPP being in dual-role relationships with clients, teams, and/or organizations?

•If an SPP is in a dual-role capacity, how should that individual establish professional boundaries and identify solutions to potential problems, before they become problems?

Write a 200–400-word response to each question in a single Word document.

All written assignments and responses should follow APA rules for attributing sources. Name the file SP6300_M3_A1_LastName_FirstInitial.doc and submit it to the appropriate Discussion Area by the due date assigned.  Through the end of the module, comment on the posts of two of your peers. In your reviews, check if your classmates have formed an opinion on how an SPP should handle multiple-role situations. Do your classmates address and consider possible ethical implications related to their opinions?

Assignment 1 Grading Criteria  Maximum Points   Analyzed and articulated views on SPPs being in dual-role relationships with clients, teams, and/or organizations.

8   Analyzed and described how SPPs in dual-role capacities should establish professional boundaries and identify solutions to potential problems.

8   Wrote in a clear, concise, and organized manner; demonstrated ethical scholarship in accurate representation and attribution of sources, displayed accurate spelling, grammar, and punctuation.

4   Reviewed the posts of at least two peers and commented on their suggestions for handling multiple-role situations.

Reaction Time & Age Experiment

Reaction time & age experiment

(Reaction Time & Age Experiment)

My research will be designed for age and gender in relation to reaction times for adolescents and young adults. My hypothesis is that the older the participant, the faster the reaction time. I will utilize task 3 for my analysis. The population size will be 200 participants. There will be 100 females and 100 males evenly distributed for ages ranging from 10-12, 13-15, 16-19, and 20-25 (25 in each group). For this assignment, you will participate in an online experiment on reaction time, the link “Please participate in the Online Psychology Laboratory. (http://opl.apa.org/Experiments/ReactionTimeColor.aspx?DayNumber=1&EID=19) Use class ID 6341. Once you have completed the experiment you will need to analyze hypothetical data that I give you and write a research report (7- 10 pages) in APA style consisting of the following sections:

•Title Page

•Abstract

•Introduction

•Method

•Results

•Discussion

•References Just like the Mini Lab Report, you will participate in the online experiment so you know what the experiment is like.

However, you will need to use the data I give you to analyze. You will write the report as if you were the researcher conducting the experiment. You have some options in your research question for this project. The data you are given includes the gender and age of the participants as well as three columns of results data (from 3 tasks). If you have a particular interest and want to modify the data, you have that choice. We will talk about this in Week 4. Careful attention must be paid to APA style as it represents a significant portion of your grade for the paper and is an intended learning outcome for the course. At the end of the term you will submit your completed paper to your assignment folder

Performance of reaction time (RT) tasks was examined in young children and older people to test the hypothesis that the older the participant, the faster the response time. The sample size to conduct this study consisted of 200 participants. There will be 100 females and 100 males evenly distributed for ages ranging from 10-12, 13-15, 16-19, and 20-25 (25 in each group).

Current Issue Critical Thinking

Current Issue Critical Thinking

(Current Issue Critical Thinking)

Read the following excerpt from “Understanding Digital Kids (DKs): Technology & Learning in the New Digital Landscape,” an article regarding learning today:

Recently, there were two recent cover stories in Time Magazine: Their conclusion was that children today are different. In fact, based on what we now know from the neurosciences and psychological sciences, what we’re now beginning to understand is that children today are FUNDAMENTALLY different than we are in the way they think, in the way they access, absorb, interpret, process and use information, and in the way they view, interact, and communicate in the modern world because of their experiences with digital technologies. If this is the case, it holds profound implications for all of us personally and professionally (Jukes, 2008, p. 14).

Reflect on this selection and respond to the following questions:

•What are your thoughts on this statement?

•Do you feel today’s learner has a different way of learning than in the past?  Defend your position.

•In your future role, how will you use this information?

•What implications does this have for your future role?

Language Acquisition Resource

Many resources are available to help us continue to develop our knowledge of language acquisition.  As professionals, you will need to identify and evaluate the resources available to you.  Please spend some time evaluating professional resources linked to language acquisition.

For this discussion, choose a specific language acquisition topic to explore further.  Several examples include our previous topics of bilingualism, communication disorders, language developmental stages, brain research, supportive language acquisition practices, family support of language acquisition, etc.  Write the topic you explored in the subject line of your discussion post.  Then, provide three sources that can be used to learn more about this topic.  Your sources may include a journal article, webpage, video, research, podcast, etc.  Include links where appropriate, and be sure to cite all sources in APA format.

Your 300-350 word post should include the following for each selected source:

•Summary of the resource.

•How it supports language acquisition in children.

•How you will use it specifically for your future professional role.

•An APA-formatted reference of the source so your peers can access and review it.
