The first thing that you need to do is make sure the person you’re talking to has a relationship with the person they’re talking about. According to our textbook, when using a credible author, you need to find out what the credentials are and decide if you can confirm them. Also with reliable publications, find out if the source is published by a scholarly press (VanderMey, Meyer, Rys, & Sebranek, 2015).The first comment that I put out is so true because there are blogs out there that are not true.It is what ever the person believes like the person that put something out there about his wife getting fired by Cracker Barrel. This was something we talked about in one of my classes. The blog is #justiceforbradswife.Supposedly Brad’s wife was fired from Cracker Barrel.Brad started writing things on social media. He got quite a following.I believe this could have been handled in a different way.He should have started with the local Cracker Barrel.I have a problem with this because we don’t know if this is true or if it is that she wasn’t fired for a specific reason.People can say whatever they want but it doesn’t mean that it is true.Anyone can start a blog and say whatever they want. The problem is that some people will believe without seeing if it is true.
References
This response should be addressed to Llin Scudder,
Choosing reference material or an article can be a daunting task if you do not know what to look for or how to find it. One can easily be lead down a rabbit trail of useless untrusted information.
There are several locations a person can find the information they are seeking for example: visit the local library, ask the librarian for assistance, use the internet, conduct surveys or ask questions of those who are in the specific field, to name a few.
It is a good idea to look carefully and determine if the site or article you are reading is a worthy and accurate source. The next thing to consider is how old the article is and if updated information has been published since this article has been written. Using scholarly books, reliable materials, periodical articles, or “Consider other library resources, such as documentary, recorded interview, pamphlet, marketing study, or government publication†(Vandermey, 2012), should be considered because these are reliable sources. Using the internet is very helpful because you can use search engines which can speed up the process, but the reader must be careful to choose quality sources. References that are recommended by librarians or experts can be helpful (Vandermey, 2012). It is important to use websites that have an author associated with it unless it comes from a “reputable institution such as a respected university, a credible media outlet, government program or department, or well-known non-government organizations.†(Weida & Stolley, 2013).
A few thing to consider when determining if a source is credible are the author, source, and authors purpose for writing on the topic (Weida & Stolley, 2013). It important to find an author that is respected within his field of study, uses creditable sources that support what they have written (Weida & Stolley, 2013). Another important factor to consider when determining which source to use is to decide if the author is “presenting a neutral, objective view of a topic? Or is the author advocating one specific view of a topic?†(Weida & Stolley, 2013).
“Regardless of what type of sources you use, they must be credible. In other words, your sources must be reliable, accurate, and trustworthy.†(Weida & Stolley, 2013).
