A. Learn about current trends in servant leadership by conducting your own research and locating an article that illustrates how the principles of servant leadership are being employed in the workplace, as part of a volunteer or service effort, or in an individual’s personal life. In the Main Forum, post a short summary and a link to the article. Discuss what you learned from reading the article and whether or not you would consider applying servant leadership in a similar way.

B. The article “Why Isn’t Servant Leadership More Prevalent?” poses the question, “But if servant leadership is as effective as portrayed in recent research, why isn’t it more prevalent?” Using what you have learned about the principles of servant leadership and your own experiences, address this question. Use examples to support your hypotheses.

Enhancing Emergency Evacuation Preparedness

Enhancing Emergency Evacuation Preparedness

(Enhancing Emergency Evacuation Preparedness)

Importance Of Training In Patient Evacuation

In an emergency evacuation of patients, training plays an important role. Here is an incidence of emergency evacuation of Phillips County Regional Medical Center discussed by Vogt and Sorenson (1999):

Shortly after 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 8, 1997, clouds of foul-smelling smoke began pouring from an herbicide and pesticide packaging plant in West Helena, Arkansas. An alert was sounded, employees evacuated, and the West Helena fire department was called. As three firefighters prepared to enter the plant, the chemical compounds exploded, collapsing a solid concrete block wall, and killing all three firefighters. As the odorous smoky cloud drifted away from the plant, authorities ordered residents in a 2-mile area downwind of the plant to evacuate and those in the 2- to 3-mile zone to shelter in . . . The findings indicate that 90% of those that were told to evacuate did so but only 27% of those told to shelter-in-place did so, with 68% opting to evacuate instead. The implications of these findings for emergency managers is that people will likely choose to evacuate when both warnings to evacuate and warnings to shelter are issued to residents in close proximity to each other (Abstract section, para. 1).

The evacuation of the medical center was facilitated by efforts taken 6 months earlier to update the hospital’s evacuation plan and reconfirm support agreements for relocation sites and supplies. At that time of updating the plan, the entire staff had also participated in a mock drill. When the safety officer observed the buildings across the highway being evacuated and started questioning officials on the possibility of also being evacuated, evacuation plans familiar to staff were in place and had been practiced. When the Director of Nursing gave the “Code White” alert (the signal that an evacuation to an off-site facility would follow) staff was amply prepared to move patients (p. 11).

Interviews with staff indicated that all patients that could be discharged were sent home with a physician’s nurse. Another four or five patients (the most seriously ill) were transferred to a hospital about a half hour away. The majority of the patients 11 (approximately 17) in the rehabilitation unit were transferred to a vacant wing of the Crestpark Nursing home accompanied by hospital support staff. Only one maternity patient evacuated to the Phillips College—Community College where the hospital staff had evacuated and opened emergency room services. The evacuation of patients began at 1:40 p.m. and all patients (except for two on ventilators and one being stabilized in the emergency room) were out 55 minutes later. The remaining three patients were evacuated 15 minutes later. A variety of vehicles transported patients—vans, school buses, ambulances, private cars, and mortuary services. As a precaution, National Guard personnel provided security at the evacuated hospital (pp. 11–12).

On the basis of your understanding on the topic, answer the following questions regarding the incidence of emergency evacuation mentioned above:

What does this study tell you about the lack of training for the community?

Why is communication and education of the community important in saving lives?

Was the community clear on what the procedures were? How?

Why was the evacuation of the hospital so successful?

How important are external relationships with other agencies to having an efficient evacuation plan?

Your review should be at least 2- to 3-page Microsoft Word document, not counting the cover page or the reference page.

Support your responses with reasoning and examples.

Cite any sources in APA format.

IDS Capstone Paper

Question description

This is a less serious capstone project

Write a report about an organization you have worked/are working, volunteering or interning for. This organization can be a public agency, a nonprofit, a private company or even a student club. In this report you need to identify a problem or issue your organization is facing and propose a solution. The scale of the problem can range from your store having experienced record loses last quarter to the need for better customer service or employee training. If there is no major issue you can think of, approach this report from the perspective of, “How can my company do better?” There is always room for improvement! Do not rely on your experience/intuition alone. Make fact based arguments that you can find support for in existing literature. Stating, “I think we should make changes to process x because my research has revealed that companies a, b and c who have undergone a similar transformation are currently outperforming us” is much more powerful than, “I think we should make changes to process x because I see it is problematic and there is room for improvement”. It does not matter if your position in the organization is “lower” than the level/perspective from which you are writing and indeed that can be good, because it will require you to be aspirational. Example: you may be mainly a barista at Starbucks, but could still write the report as if you were an Associate Manager. The report should be roughly 10 double-spaced pages long, with the caveat that as this is a “practical” rather than strictly “academic” report … it should be as long as it needs to be given the topic and the approach. This means a 7 page paper might be fine, if otherwise superlative; and it means a 15 page paper with a fair amount of graphics would be okay, too.

  • Introduction: Your introduction needs to give the reader a clear idea of what you are going to talk about in your paper and how your paper will be organized. It must also be succinct. If your paper is 10 pages long your introduction should be one page or less.Citations: All key factual statements must be backed up by reliable sources. If you state, “Internships are crucial for gaining employment” you need to cite a source that shows this is really the case and this is not just you expressing your opinion.
  • Limited references to personal experience: It is okay to draw from your personal experience while writing this report, but the whole paper cannot be about what you love about your job or why you are a business wiz. You need to contextualize your experience. For example, “Volunteering with United Way opened up many professional opportunities for me. I am not alone in this experience as x study has shown that students who volunteer as undergrads have greater career opportunities when they graduate.”
  • Good writing and organization: Your report needs to consist of content written out in full sentences, not bullet points (although some bullet-lists are fine, if suitable to the material). You can use pictures and tables if they lend weight to the information you are presenting; however, wholesale substituting of images for written content would be a mistake. You are being judged on the quality of your writing and presentation and research incorporation, not the content per se (the best way of thinking about this: imagine you are writing for a “boss”; the boss likely lacks expertise in what you are writing about, but definitely wants to be reassured that you know what you are writing about… the first sign of lack of expertise, is sloppy prose and organization/presentation.

(Revamping SoulCycle’s Marketing Strategy)

I had planned on doing the paper on the place that I work SoulCycle, this is what I have so far.

For the past year and a half I have worked at SoulCycle, an indoor cycling fitness studio that has changed easily changed the way we think about working out. SoulCycle has also changed the way we think about a company and what it takes to be successful. What started as a singular studio in the upper west side of New York has grown into over sixty locations across the united states (Kowitt, 2016). What is most interesting to me about the spectacular growth of this company is the fact that it was all done organically. They never contracted out to others for marketing but rather took the job into their own hands and handcrafted a marketing technique specific to each location but based on a foundation of reaching out into the community and creating a stronghold.

I was hired at the SoulCycle Coral Gables studio and have worked very hard to be a part of this process, I found that I was learning so many great skills that will be so helpful beyond this job in the future. As I have learned these skills I have also grown within the company and continue to do so. I started as a front desk associate and transitioned into the role of a key holder meaning that I am many times managing the studio myself instead of a manager, I am currently in the process of becoming an assistant studio manager of marketing. Currently at the studio that I work at there have been many changes in management leaving the position of marketing manager vacant. Which I have witnessed become a great issue. Marketing is one of the main reasons behind the success of Soul and placing the position on the bike operations manager who is already at a full capacity of work and the studio manager has created a lack of time spent on the marketing process. Because such an important position has been left vacant the studio is missing out on major marketing opportunities that I feel that I can provide to the studio to bring in more customers.

The studio has experienced many ups and downs in terms of management, in fact the original four managers that hired me are no longer with my company so I believe that this shows my ability to deal with changes in the workplace well. That being said I can understand why one might think it is wise to wait to find the perfect candidate but waiting for an opportunity to come is not wise when the studio is suffering from missing constant opportunities in relation to marketing.

Redefining Mental Health Frameworks

Redefining Mental Health Frameworks

(Redefining Mental Health Frameworks)

Discussion

The underlying predicament arises when mental conditions are defined as disorders rather than by the predicaments that human beings face. As such, psychiatry is highly dependent on the assessment of the psychological disorders, the definition and the fundamental psychological changes that exist thereof; an aspect that has been mirrored and projected in the scientist’s discussion by J. Krishnamurti, David Bohm, and Rupert Sheldrake.

The result is that the definitions tend to range with others seeking to define it as a disorder and others arguing that it is in essence concept that falls under the socio-political threshold. Additionally, it is argued that a mental condition is predisposed to purposes of social control and to factual basis laid out by the science.
Perhaps with the integration of both the science and socio-political value is aligned, then a proper analysis of mental disorders is inevitable.

At this juncture, it becomes possible to make an assessment of the mental and physical conditions. Conditions are often relative to negativity if they result in the failure of the mechanisms in the performance of processes for which they are mandated. Mental conditions have also been subject to a diagnosis of symptoms and the implications of diagnosis that fall under the cross-cultural criteria. This has also been under scrutiny owing to the lack of a proper justification of a scientific fact or rather a condition influenced by the socio-political environment thereof.

Culture is a variable in making a diagnosis whereby the specific determining variables include the data on family, explanatory models, as well as patient-centric care based on their strengths and weaknesses. It is imperative to make a distinction between suffering that is imposed by nature and the nature of disorders themselves in which case David Bohm argues that
Disorder is a human consciousness and it is directly relative to nature. It is the natural state of the human being to succumb to suffering; what the discussion refers to as the “disorder.” Krishnamurti, argues that remembering pain creates a sense of continuity upon which disorders are based upon, but in reality it is often in self-context, prompting self-concern and commitment and as such the same can be manipulated to free the individual from suffering.

Counseling Theories and Assumptions

Counseling Theories and Assumptions

(Counseling Theories and Assumptions)

This discussion question meets the following CACREP Standard: 2.F.5.a. Theories and models of counseling.

1. What are your personal assumptions about: How do people develop the kinds of psychological distress that bring them to counseling? What constitutes “good mental health” or “a good life?” How do people change, grow emotionally, develop better coping mechanisms, or change destructive behaviors?

2. Some might argue that a therapist’s theoretical orientation is irrelevant in the counseling process, and that only client outcomes matter. Others might argue that specific factors common across models of therapy-not specific theory or an approach endorsed by a counselor create a positive outcome. What do you think? Why?

3. According to Adler, what is the difference between biological and psychological birth order? Describe how Adler’s theory of psychological birth order (the family constellation) shapes the family member.

4. While there are many neoanalytic writers, they can be divided into two general categories. Some are objective positivist thinkers while others are relativistic/constructivist thinkers. Philosophically, what is the difference among objective positivist neoanalytic writers and relativistic/constructivist neoanalytic writers?

5. Do you think it is possible to combine client-centered and existential approaches in therapy? Why or why not? Explain what a combined approach might look like.

6. Could you be genuine, accepting, and empathic with all clients? What types of problems or clients would present problems for you in terms of being genuine, accepting, and empathic? How would you work with clients with whom you did not feel these three conditions?

7. What types of populations and diagnostic mental health categories would be most inclined to use REBT and behavioral theories? Why?

8. What are the issues of individual and cultural diversity a counselor must consider when using REBT and behavioral theories?

Each Question has to be answer with 150-250 words and a cite.

Each question has to be answered by themselves and not in a paper form!!!

Quantifying Public Health Problems

Quantifying Public Health Problems

(Quantifying Public Health Problems)

Using EBPH to Define and Quantify the Extent of the Public Health Problem

Note: Your response and comments to this assignment will be laying the foundation for work that you will later complete as part of your final project.

A clear statement of the issue provides a concrete basis for a priority setting process that is objective. This then leads to better program planning, intervention, and evaluation. A fully articulated issue statement includes a complete description of the problem, potential solutions, data sources, and health-related outcomes.

In order to provide a complete description of the problem, the problem must first be quantified. In quantifying the health issue or disease, the application of the appropriate epidemiologic tools is necessary to obtain the answers to certain questions while conducting the community assessment. The community assessment should include the health condition or risk factor being considered, the population affected, the size and scope of the problem, prevention opportunities, and potential stakeholders. This task requires basic epidemiologic skills to obtain additional information about the frequency of the health condition or risk factor in an affected population.

Going back to the public health problem, issue, situation, or concern that you identified for W1: Assignment 3, develop a concise statement of your problem. Your statement must be clear and well-articulated including a description of the problem, potential solutions, data sources, and health-related outcomes. The statement of your problem will serve as the basis for your research purpose or objective, which will be very critical in the application of the evidence-based process which in turn leads to better program planning, program intervention, and program evaluation.

  1. Using the strategies and concepts taught for searching, evaluating, and retrieving EBPH resources and literature, identify five (5) peer-reviewed scientific articles that have information that can be used to quantify the extent of your specific health problem. Ensure that none of these articles are more than 5 years old.
  2. Analyze and evaluate three of the five articles with the intent to quantify the extent of your public health problem, issue, situation, or concern.
  3. Use the epidemiology training and skills from the course to assess the extent of your problem, issue, situation, or concern by identifying and evaluating the risk factors being considered, the population affected, the size and scope of the problem, prevention opportunities, and potential stakeholders from the three peer-reviewed articles.
  4. As part of quantifying the public health condition, obtain the disease rates of the health condition or risk factor in an affected population and analyze and assess if any patterns of the disease exist within subgroups of the defined population.

Utilize assigned and suggested weekly readings, the South University online library, the Internet readings, and references to search, evaluate, and retrieve relevant EBPH literature to support your responses.
