Crafting Effective Substance Interventions

Crafting Effective Substance Interventions

(Crafting Effective Substance Interventions)

Question description

FINAL PAPER

The aim of this Final Paper is to develop a research report integrating knowledge gained from previous submissions that demonstrates your ability to effectively utilize research pertinent to a social issue (substance abuse) addressed in some capacity by a health and human services setting. As part of this culminating submission, you will provide a succinct but efficient overview of content areas examined in your written assignments from Weeks One through Four that will aid in the development of an original intervention (i.e., strategy, application, or technique) for human service professionals to utilize for your selected social issue (substance abuse). This model intervention must be of your own design as opposed to a review of an existing practice used to address this issue. You can, however, use your knowledge of best practices to inform your intervention. The Capstone Project is intended to demonstrate your mastery of all learning outcomes related to the B.A. program in Health and Human Services; therefore, successful completion will require reflection, critical thinking, and knowledge of subject matter areas addressed in previous coursework. You are strongly encouraged to refer to the culmination of resources (e.g., textbooks, articles, websites, library resources, etc.) in addition to those provided in the course in the development of your submission.

The Final Paper will include five components. The first four parts will involve briefly summarizing the main points from each of your previous written assignments. Do not copy and paste content from these submissions.

Part I: Background of Substance Abuse (Week One Assignment; 1 page):

  • Describe substance abuse, its importance, and pertinent background information.
  • Evaluate the impact of substance abuse on the delivery of health and human services efforts (e.g., formal organizational responses by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, resulting legislation, policies, etc.).

Part II: Theory and Research Related to Substance Abuse (Week Two Assignment; 1 page):

  • Develop a brief research-based report demonstrating research theory and methodology by analyzing the scholarly literature related to substance abuse, including theories explaining the problem as well as research studies and their associated methods and outcomes.

Part III: Best Practices Related to Substance Abuse (Week Three Assignment; 1 page):

  • Apply a working knowledge of U.S. health and human services delivery of care by explaining best practices related to substance abuse. What interventions, strategies, or approaches have been shown to be most effective as evidenced by research?

Part IV: Human Service Professionals Related to Substance Abuse (Week Four Assignment; 1 page):

  • Explain how and where human service professionals are involved in direct practice with populations affected by substance abuse.
  • Examine effective oral and written communication skills needed for these professionals to be successful.
  • Analyze culturally competent health and human services elements necessary for service delivery related to clients facing substance abuse.

Part V: Model Intervention (four to six pages):

  • Lastly, apply your knowledge of U.S. health and human services delivery of care as a whole to develop a model intervention in the form of a service, program, or initiative (from your Week Three Assignment proposal) for human service professionals who are working directly with clients facing substance abuse. This intervention must be unique in its approach and must be sufficiently supported by scholarly sources.

Specifically, you are to do the following:

    • Describe the intervention in detail: what it is, how and why it will be used, what makes it unique to other approaches, the population that will receive it, and how the best practice will be integrated into the intervention.
    • Describe aspects of the delivery setting in which the intervention will be used, such as location/setting (e.g., social/human services agency, healthcare facility, in the field, etc.) and professionals involved (e.g., roles/duties, necessary competencies and skills required, etc.).
    • Determine the components of successful health and human service delivery relationships at the (a) individual, (b) family, (c) group, (d) organizational, and (e) community levels. How will these components be used to support your intervention?
    • Describe how you will apply technology (i.e., specific tools and resources) to deliver the intervention to clients facing substance abuse.
    • Assess the intervention’s perceived strengths and limitations.
    • Explain how the intervention will be evaluated to determine its effectiveness.

Social Media Profiles

Social Media Profiles

(Social Media Profiles)

Facebook is a social media networking service that currently boasts over 1 billion users worldwide. For this assignment, you will analyze the Facebook page of Jacob Smith.  More specifically, analyze Jacob’s page using:

•At least three of the theories we explored in this module. Use the theories to describe what you learned about Jacob.

•Which of these theories do you find the easiest to apply? Why?

•Provide an example of a schema that Jacob demonstrates.

Cultivation theory explains that regular and frequent exposure to certain types of social media information have an effect on a person’s attitudes and behavior. Cultivation theorists believe that social media has effects that are small, gradual, indirect, and cumulative – they add up over time to change a person’s attitudes and behaviors, kind of like a stalagmite building up on a cave floor over the years.

Social learning theory explains that we learn through observation. According to social learning theory, the three pieces of this puzzle are the person, the modeled behavior, and the environment. We form a model of behaviors without needing to actually do it ourselves – we can see someone almost being hit by a car in the street and know that we need to be very careful in the street without being (nearly) hit ourselves. We can watch a YouTube video on makeup application or car repair and then go on to try the process in real life.

Agenda setting theory explains that social media influences people regarding what to think about rather than what to think. This theory holds that social media influences and amplifies our existing beliefs, and that people are willing to look to social media to cue us as to where we should focus our attention. You might see this as waves of people on your social media sites tend to post about similar issues, which gets you (and them) thinking about them more and leads to more posting for a while. Then the attention goes somewhere else. For example, for a while, the gold and white / blue and black dress was lighting up social media sites (google it if you don’t know), which led to a lot of discussions on visual processing and the work our brains do. Then along came the next big item on the agenda.

Uses and gratification theory identifies that people look to social media to escape from challenges or be entertained. This theory assumes that people are not passive, but are actively searching out and using the information they are consuming from social media sites.

Schemas are ways of organizing our world. We all have stereotypes that help us classify people and things. Schemas are not a theory, per se, but an explanation on how our memory organizes information. Jean Piaget developed the use of schemas to explain not only how we categorize our knowledge, but how we utilize that knowledge as well.   For example, if someone asks you to describe a Republican or a Democrat, how would you do that? You may have a particular schema of a person belonging to one or the other political party. Your information on political parties may be extensive or limited, so how you explain a person from each party will reflect that level of expertise. If you were someone who routinely watches a particular 24-hour news network, your schema may change toward a particular party as you assimilate the new information into your original framework (schema) of that political party.   In the same light, viewing the social media networks may alter or accommodate your existing schema to fit the new information.

Cultural Media Portrayals & Communication Values

Cultural Media Portrayals & Communication Values

(Cultural Media Portrayals & Communication Values)

Cultural media portrayals and communication values intersect in complex ways, shaping societal perceptions and behaviors. Media, including television, film, literature, and digital platforms, serve as powerful vehicles for disseminating cultural narratives and values. These portrayals influence how individuals perceive themselves, others, and the world around them.

Communication values, such as empathy, respect, and inclusivity, play a crucial role in shaping media content and audience reception. When media accurately reflects diverse perspectives and experiences, it fosters understanding and empathy among audiences. Conversely, misrepresentations or stereotypes can perpetuate harmful biases and reinforce social inequalities.

Moreover, media has the potential to challenge existing norms and promote positive social change by highlighting marginalized voices and advocating for social justice issues. As such, media producers and consumers alike have a responsibility to critically evaluate and contribute to media representations that align with communication values of authenticity, equity, and cultural sensitivity.

Ultimately, the intersection of cultural media portrayals and communication values has profound implications for shaping cultural norms, fostering intercultural dialogue, and promoting social cohesion in an increasingly diverse and interconnected world.

Applying Principles of Project Management

Applying the Principles of Project Management to Everyday Life, marketing homework help

(Applying Principles of Project Management)

Question description

Applying the Principles of Project Management to Everyday Life

Select a project as the basis for your final portfolio project. The project may be one that applies to your work or your personal life. The project must require multiple resources, and be large enough in scope to apply project management principles, but limited enough in scope to be completed in 8 weeks. Examples of projects that may work well are remodeling a kitchen, or planning a graduation ceremony for an online university.

In paper format, develop the following information:

1- Background and statement of need: Briefly describe the organization and the expected benefits for completing the project successfully. At a minimum, your project should include the information on who the stakeholders are and the person who controls the budget and resources; project goals in terms of triple constraints; the start and end dates for your project; the budget; performance criteria; and project scope statement to clarify what is and what is not in the project.

2 – Identify the specific tasks required to complete each item listed on the SOW/scope statement. Develop a WBS, team-building strategies, negotiation, and conflict management techniques for when issues arise.

3 – Develop an RACI. Identify the resources required to accomplish each task. Arrange the tasks into a schedule that takes into consideration the required dependencies between tasks. If you have computerized project management software and feel comfortable using it, you may. It is not required, and you may complete all steps manually. Develop either a PERT or Gantt chart and identify the critical path through the network. Include your PERT or Gantt chart as an appendix, but describe the information contained in the document in the body of your paper. Compare the network results to the project’s triple constraints. Note any concerns about time, budget, and scope.

4 – Assess project control techniques for your selected project. Describe the purpose of control, the types of control processes, and what will be in place for your project.

5 – Explain project termination and how the final success will be determined in measurable terms, the communication plan to see project closure, and how project history will be kept for knowledge sharing on future projects.

Your paper should be 9-10 pages in length and conform to CSU-Global Guide to Writing and APA Requirements. Include at least five scholarly references in addition to the course textbooks. The CSU-Global Library is a good place to find these references.

Navigating Client Perspectives

Navigating Client Perspectives: Interpretation & Support

(Navigating Client Perspectives)

Read Two Cases And Answer Questions Below .

Client C: I am nervous about meeting this woman tonight. I answered an ad in the personals because I really want to start dating, but I don’t know if this is such a good idea. I mean, what kind of people advertise in the personals? She might be a real wacko. I have pretty high standards for who I go out with, and I don’t want to waste time if we don’t get along. My past experiences have been pretty bad with dating. I go out and find someone I like, but then they never want to go out with me again (Hill, 2009).

Client D: I just got back from visiting my family for Thanksgiving, and once again, I felt inadequate. My older brother was there, and he talked the whole time about how wonderful he is doing in his new position in a law firm. He entertained the family over dinner with all the cases he is working on. I just felt like I couldn’t get a word in edgewise and that nobody was interested in what I was doing. It reminds me of my whole childhood where I felt like I couldn’t compete with him because he was always the older, better brother (Hill, 2009).

task:

In a minimum of 400 words, post to the Discussion Area your response to the following:

Part A

  • Review the client statements provided above and select two to interpret. Identify each statement you chose and provide the interpretation as you would share it with the client. You may wish to start with a reflection statement followed by the interpretation. In your answer, identify which two cases you selected by including the case name (e.g. Client A or Client B) preceding your interpretation.
  • Articulate the intention of your interpretation and what you hope it will facilitate with the client.

Part B

  • Articulate what you believe will be the most challenging part of terminating with your client and how you will address that challenge.

Support your rationale and analysis by using at least two resources from professional literature in your response. Professional literature may include the Argosy University online library resources, relevant textbooks, peer-reviewed journal articles, and websites created by professional organizations, agencies, or institutions (websites ending in .edu or .gov).

Your discussion posts and all written assignments should reflect graduate level writing skills and appropriate use of APA style, including in-text citations and references.

an example(Navigating Client Perspectives)

Client C seems to be grappling with anxiety and uncertainty regarding meeting someone from a personal ad. They express concerns about the potential mismatch in expectations and fear encountering someone who might not meet their standards. Through interpretation, it’s crucial to validate their apprehensions while also exploring underlying patterns in their past dating experiences. By acknowledging their past struggles and highlighting their courage in seeking companionship, I hope to foster a sense of empowerment and confidence in navigating future encounters.

Client D’s narrative revolves around feelings of inadequacy and comparison, particularly in the shadow of their accomplished older brother. Their experience triggers childhood memories of constantly feeling overshadowed. In interpreting this, it’s important to validate their emotions of inferiority while also reframing their perspective on self-worth and success. By exploring their unique strengths and accomplishments, I aim to cultivate a sense of self-esteem and resilience in navigating familial dynamics and societal expectations.

The intention behind these interpretations is to provide clients with a safe space for reflection and validation, while also fostering insight into their thoughts and emotions. By acknowledging their experiences and exploring underlying patterns, I aim to facilitate a deeper understanding of themselves and their relational dynamics.

As for the most challenging part of terminating with these clients, it’s likely to be ensuring a smooth transition while maintaining their progress and emotional well-being. Termination can evoke feelings of loss or abandonment, especially if clients have developed a strong therapeutic alliance. To address this challenge, I will employ gradual closure techniques, such as discussing termination goals early in the process, reviewing progress made, and providing resources for continued support post-termination. Additionally, I will encourage open dialogue about their feelings regarding termination and validate any emotions that arise during the process.

In addressing these challenges, I draw upon professional literature that emphasizes the importance of termination planning and addressing termination-related issues proactively (Ebert et al., 2015). By integrating evidence-based practices and maintaining a client-centered approach, I aim to facilitate a positive and empowering termination experience for both clients.
