Instructions:

In the online lectures in Module 3 and your textbook readings (“Training and Development”, Leadership”, and “Motivation, Job Satisfaction, and Job Involvement”) you learned about the importance of training your employees.  However, training is only effective when employees can retain the information and incorporate what they learn to improve their job performance.

You have just learned that your company is looking for ways to cut back expenses.  One of the cost cutting measures being considered is to terminate the training department, as the company considers this an expense and they do not believe training is contributing to the profitability of the company.  As the head of the training department it is your job to defend the value of the department.  You realize that well trained employees perform their jobs more efficiently and consequently can contribute to higher productivity and profits for the company. One way to show the value of training is to have tools that will allow a manager to track the performance of an employee both before and after they have received training.

  • Report
    Write a report that will be shared with senior management on why training is a very important part of the company’s overall financial success.  Discuss the advantages of having well-trained employees.

    Using what you have learned about transfer training and the evaluation of training programs create an evaluation tool which can be used to evaluate how effective any given employee training program is in terms of:

    • Increasing the level of transfer of knowledge (knowledge retention)
    • Monitoring the effectiveness of the skill performance in the job performance improvement
    • Include common attributes in your evaluation tool which could be applicable to most employees at the organization such as: employees showing concern for saving the company money or consistently turning in error free work.  Your training tool should contain a minimum of 10 evaluation criteria.

Your training evaluation tool must be included with your report defending the value of the training department.  You know that your report will be shared with senior level managers and eventually to the board of directors.  However, you are uncertain whether or not you will be allowed to present your work at a later time or in a different manner.  Therefore it is important that your report is well written and professional.

The report should be 5-7 pages in length and include:

  • Executive Summary highlighting all the factors in the scenario.

  • The company received correspondence from the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) requesting additional supplemental information regarding the financial statements submitted with the IPO.

Write an eight to ten (8-10) page paper in which you:

  1. Evaluate any damaging financial and ethical repercussions of failure to include the inventory write-downs in the financial statements. Prepare a recommendation to the CFO, evaluating the negative impact of a civil fraud penalty on the corporation as a result of the IRS audit. In the recommendation, include essential internal control procedures to prevent fraudulent financial reporting from occurring, as well as the major obligation of the CEO and CFO to ensure compliance.
  2. Examine the negative results on stakeholders and the financial statements of an IRS audit which generates additional tax and penalties or subsequent audits. Assume that the subsequent audit and / or additional tax and penalties result from the taxpayer’s use of an inventory reserve account, applying a 10 percent reduction to inventory over three (3) years.
  3. Discuss the applicable federal tax laws, regulations, rulings, and court cases related to the inventory write-downs, and explain the specific relevance of each to the write-down.
  4. Research the current generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) regarding stock option accounting. Evaluate the current treatment of the company’s share-based compensation plan based on GAAP reporting. Contrast the financial benefits and risks of the share-based compensation stock option plan with the financial benefits and risks of a share-based stock-appreciation rights plan (SARS). Recommend to the CFO which plan the company should use, and provide the correct accounting treatment for each.
  5. Research the reporting requirements for lease reporting under GAAP and International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS). Based on your research, create a proposal for future lease transactions to the CFO. Within the proposal, discuss the use of off-the-balance sheet financing arrangements, capital leases, and operating leases, and indicate the related business and financial risks of each.
  6. Create an argument for or against a single set of international accounting standards related to lease accounting based on the global market and cross border leases of assets. Examine the benefits and risks of your chosen position.
  7. Examine the major implications of SAS 99 based on the factors you discovered during the initial evaluation of the company. Provide support for your rationale.
  8. Analyze the potential for a material misstatement in the financial statements based on the issues identified in your initial evaluation. Make a recommendation to the CFO for the issuance of   restated financial statement restatement. Identify at least three (3) significant issues that can result from the failure to issue restated financial statements.
  9. Examine the economic effect of restatement of the financial statements on investors, employees, customers, and creditors.

Throughout your education, you have been asked to research topics and write papers, engage in thought-provoking discussions, consider diverse perspectives, and a host of other challenges that have required you to use both your discipline-specific skills as well as your soft skills to show proficiency of content-related topics. These are called transferable skills. Transferable skills are skills that you develop that can betransferred and applied within your chosen career. Transferable skills are highly valuable and essential for career success.

It is now time to submit your “exemplar project/assignment” and “transferable skills reflection”. To complete this assignment, you will need to do the following:

Exemplar Project/Assignment(s)

  • Please review your student “Transferable Skills Project Portfolio” folder for important details regarding your Capstone Portfolio and a review of the six transferable skills.
  • Select an exemplary project (or assignment) from your Transferable Skills Project Collection that demonstrates your mastery of at least threetransferable skills during your time as a student at Rasmussen College; or select your project from this course if you feel that it best represents your mastery of at least three transferable skills.(Utilize the Transferable Skills Rubrics to help you assess the suitability of an assignment for demonstrating proficiency in any of the six transferable skills).
    • Make sure to compile ALL components of your project/assignment(s) (if the project covers several assignments, compile them all in their proper order). Sometimes a project can span throughout several week of a course. For example, if you have 5 assignments as part of a project, you will need to compile ALL 5 assignments into one document/final project in proper order.
    • You may also use your “Capstone Project” as an exemplary assignment (as long as it showcases at least 3 transferable skills).
    • Compile all of the rubrics that your Instructor used to grade each component of your project or transferable skills assignment. Copy and paste them in proper order to the end of your project. The rubrics should be the last few pages of your project assignment. If done correctly, everything will be one document!
    • You want to make sure that you are submitting your best work or the project that BEST represents the transferable skills. Refer to the scores on the assignment rubrics under “transferable skills section of the rubric” that your faculty member provided for you, for each assignment. Also, be cognizant of the level of the course. The goal is for you to show mastery of the skills. For example, if you are taking a 400 level Capstone, then maybe select a project from one of your 300 or 400 level courses.

Transferable Skills Self Reflection(portfolio for healthcare)

  • In a minimum of 2 full pages, you will need to write an essay (full introduction and conclusion paragraph), and include:
    • A description of each of the transferable skills that you’ve chosen to demonstrate proficiency of for your exemplary portfolio project.
    • Discuss the reasons why you feel that this particular project or assignment reflects your understanding of each skill. Be specific!
    • Describe the knowledge, skills and/or attitudes regarding each of the transferable skills that you’ve gained as a result of completing this particular project/assignment.
    • Discuss the ways that you are going to incorporate the transferable skills (the transferable skills that you showcased in your exemplary project) into your work within your chosen career field.
    • Describe your future goals based on the transferable skills that you’ve chosen to showcase.
    • Make sure to include an APA formatted title page.
    • Write your paper utilizing proper APA formatting guidelines, proper tone and grammar.

If that’s the case then you’ll have multiple files to submit; the PowerPoint and then the combined Word documents. Save these to one folder, zip or compress the folder, and then submit the zipped folder.
