Complete this week’s Practice Activity.

Matching exercises give you an opportunity to practice definitions and develop logical and critical thinking skills. By using such techniques as inversion, diversion, and the process of elimination, you are able to greatly increase the probability of answering questions correctly. This is an important skill to have, as it is commonly found on nearly all standardized tests and increases critical thinking.

The objective of this exercise is to understand restitution, parole, mandatory release, and parole.

respond to class mate Karen:

Probation is a type of sentence given to offenders to serve in their community rather than spending time in jail. Offenders given probation can either be supervised, unsupervised, community-control, shock probation, and crime-specific types (McKenna, 2018) and acquire certain conditions the offender must abide by.

Probation should only be given to those who have committed petty crimes such as vandalism, possession of marijuana (very small amount), drunk driving if it’s their first time breaking the law. An individual who has been charged with sexual assault, molestation, or murder should not be given probation as they pose a threat to society. Although, McKenna (2018) states that crime-specific types probation may be given to sex offenders. What is done here is that the government installs a monitoring software to track what the offenders do on his computer. I would not argue if this type of probation is given to sex offenders after they have served their time in prison.

Thinking back at one of our seminars where we discussed how probation or parole can come in conflict with the jobs individuals hold because probation may require you to show up in a specific time that you start work causing the individual to lose his job. If I were a probation officer, I would want copies of the client’s work schedule so that he is able to do both (if probation officers can do that). The goal is for the offender to not offend again and we should not pose another obstacle in their path to do better. I would also want to check on them regularly (as a pop-up), proof of what they are doing to turn their lives around, provide them with counseling, and ask my permission when they want to leave their county. For me, these conditions are important to bring safety to society and help reinstate offenders into society as a functional citizen (unknown author, 2013).

respond to susan:

According to Schmalleger (2017) probation is “A sentence of imprisonment that is suspended. Also, the conditional freedom granted by a judicial officer to a convicted offender, as long as the person meets certain conditions of behavior.” When someone who has been found guilty Is being sentenced they can be given probation. This is a set number of years that they have to report to a probation officer and follow a set of rules given. Some of these rules are things like no drinking, no drugs, and no leaving the state. Probation can also be given to serve after a sentence. So, someone can get 3 years jail time and 3 years’ probation. The probation starts once they are released. The federal government no longer has probation it is now called supervised release. The difference is probation you have an officer that supervises you and it is up to them if they want to report a violation to the court. Supervised release also has an officer, but everything has to be reported to the courts. I personally had t serve 3 years supervised release and it was no fun at all. I personally think that setting guidelines depends on each person’s crime. The courts actually set the guidelines but if given the opportunity the main ones would be no drugs, no excessive drinking, and they must report when scheduled. These main ones will help with tracking each convict and hoefully keep them out of trouble.

The Psychological Impact of Cyberbullying on Adolescents

In today’s Internet age where an online presence is as important to the individual as their offline activities and life, the threat or dangers posed by activities such as cyberbullying are increasingly becoming an international public health concern, especially as this vice affects the development of adolescents. The victimization arising from cyberbullying can be so intense as to result in depressive symptoms in adolescents and even suicide attempts.

Indeed, those adolescents prone to cyberbullying are also susceptible to school bullying, and these victims will often have lower school performance and school attachment. There is need, therefore, to examine in detail the psychological impact that cyberbullying has on adolescents and their mental health, as well as various suggestions for therapy for affected victims.

Overcoming Barriers: Nurse Empowerment

Overcoming Barriers: Nurse Empowerment

(Overcoming Barriers: Nurse Empowerment)

I NEED A POSITIVE COMMENT BASED IN THIS ARGUMENT..BETWEEN 100-120 WORDS

The health care sector is experiencing major changes due to extensive research and development activities. As nurses play a crucial role in the delivery of health care, they need to embrace new and innovative techniques to provide effective and best possible treatment to their patients. Several institutional and personal barriers can hinder nurses from adopting EBP (Wood, 2013).

The two potential barriers that can prevent continuation of my evidence based practice change proposal in the future is poor coordination among the clinical team and staff turnover. My project focuses on Coronary Artery Bypass Graft patients and working with these high-risk patients need the best coordination and team work from the whole clinical team including devising appropriate discharge planning. Poor communication between the clinical team members can affect the outcome. My strategy is to recommend three interventions: staff appreciation events, monthly review of the continued adherence to the changes made, and monitoring the staff compliance by the administration. These interventions can motivate the clinical team to continue to pursue the change proposal. The second barrier I assume is staff turnover. There is lot of staff turnover in our hospital. Floating nurses and agency nurses on contract can affect the continuation of my change project. My strategy is to promote ongoing training which is absolutely necessary. These training needs to be scheduled and to be listed in the calendar every week.

Hospital management can help to overcome these barriers. The nurses preferred to consult their supervisors and colleagues to obtain needed information. Hospital management can create a conducive environment and provide socializing opportunities for nurses to promote peer-to-peer information and knowledge sharing (Melnyk & Overholt, 2011).

Nursing Shortage: Impact & Solutions

Nursing Shortage: Impact & Solutions

(Nursing Shortage: Impact & Solutions)

Comment1

The nursing shortage causes nurses to have to take on larger caseloads, work longer hours and overtime, creates nurse fatigue and ultimately lends way to burnout, injury and medical errors. The impact of reimbursement, legislation, regulation and technological advances must also be considered. A failure to consider the relationships among all these aspects limits the full appreciation of the complexity of the nursing shortage today (ANA, n.d.).

Some of the ways specifically the nursing shortage is impacting the public are higher mortality rates, increased hospital acquired infections, higher medication errors,  patients being diverted to facilities farther away from their families, surgeries being postponed longer than they should be and longer wait times (ANA, n.d.).

To facilitate improvements in nurse staffing, now and in the future, healthcare organizations must focus on recruitment, maintenance, and retention. In an attempt to address nurse burnout and shortage healthcare institutions are offering incentives  such as providing sign on bonuses, offering competitive wages, providing tuition reimbursement; implementing nurse patient ratios protocols and providing ongoing training and CE’s for their employees. Nurses in general can help work toward the shortage by providing appropriate and thorough education to their patients, decreasing hospital admissions and office visits (Minority Nurse Staff, 2013).

Coment2

The nurse shortage almost seems to be used to promote many other issues besides nursing.  In my previous places of employment, I have felt that the nursing shortage was more of an issue of a short staffing pattern, not that nurses were not available.  And I also think that phasing out the LPN/LVN is a mistake.  Many nurses that are LPN/LVN do not want to advance to being and RN and many cannot.  I have talked to many LPN’s who do not want the added responsibility and I understand that too.  I believe there will always be a need for LPN/LVN and I love working with them.  I have often thought that in hospitals there should be teams consisting of three-member teams; a RN, a LVN/LPN and a CNA. I do realize that this is not needed everywhere but our profession is continuously being burdened with added responsibilities.  If you supply a RN with these qualified positions, the RN can handle more cases while learning gaining experience in leadership and educating.  What are your thoughts with your experiences thus far as a RN?

Managing Schizophrenia Diagnosis Impact

Discussion1: Managing the Impact of Schizophrenia Diagnosis

(Managing Schizophrenia Diagnosis Impact)

A diagnosis of schizophrenia most often comes in early adulthood. Often what are called “first breaks” come while an individual is in college. This lifelong and life-changing diagnosis for a 20- or 21-year-old often comes as a shock and causes much dismay for the client and his or her family members.

For this Discussion, consider how you would work with the client and his or her family members to acclimate to this diagnosis. Then consider how you would prepare them for the changed expectations they will now have for their loved one. Finally, using your skills from previous coursework, describe the developmental expectations that have changed since the diagnosis. Consider also the grief and loss the family will experience. Be sure to use a strengths perspective to address potential concerns.

· Post a description of how you, as a social worker, might work with a client and the client’s family in acclimating to the client’s recent diagnosis of schizophrenia.

· Then explain how you might help the client’s family manage the grief and loss related to the changes in developmental expectations since the client’s diagnosis.

· Finally, explain how you might help the client and the client’s family prepare for the changed expectations they now have for the client.

· Be sure to use the strengths perspective to address their concerns.

Policy Process and Public OpinionManaging public opinion and understanding the balance between its influence and your advocacy goals is a delicate matter. It is a task fraught with uncertainty because, as a policy advocate, you must navigate through the territory of politicians, bureaucrats, and lobbyists whose primary goals are to appease and please their constituents.

In this Discussion, you select a social problem that is of interest to you and identify how public opinion influences the process and political approaches involved in addressing that social problem.

· Post a description of the importance of public opinion in addressing the social problem you have selected.

· How does public opinion influence political approaches to the problem?

· Explain.

· What policy advocacy approaches and skills can you use to address the problem with political leaders?

· What are the social justice implications of your approach?

Generating Support: EvidenceBased Practices

Discussion 1: Generating Support for Evidence-Based Practices

(Generating Support: EvidenceBased Practices)

When treating clients, social workers must ensure that the evidence-based practice is appropriate for the client and the problem. Then, the social worker must get the client and other stakeholders to support the selected evidence-based practice. To earn that support, the social worker should present the client and stakeholders with a plan for implementation and evidence of the evidence-based practice efficacy and appropriateness. Social workers must demonstrate that they have carefully considered the steps necessary to implement the evidence-based practice, identified factors in the current environment that support implementation of the evidence-based practice, and addressed those factors that may hinder the successful implementation.

For this week’s Discussion, you will take on the role of the social worker in the Levy case study. You will choose an evidence-based practice and attempt to gain the support of both the client and supervisor. To do so, you will address its efficacy, appropriateness, and factors that may impact implementation of the evidence-based practice that you chose.

To prepare for this Discussion, review Levy Episode 2 (TRANSCRIPT ATTACHED). Then using the registries provided in this week’s resources and the Walden Library, locate an evidence-based practice that you believe would be appropriate for Jake’s case. Then, review the Evidence-Based Practice kit for Family Psycho Education from the SAMHSA website from the resources. Note all the steps and considerations involved in implementing the evidence-based practice and which of these considerations apply to this case. Consider issues such as agency support, resources, and costs that might support or limit the application of the evidence-based intervention that you select.

(Generating Support: EvidenceBased Practices)

· Post an evaluation of the evidence-based practice that you selected for Jake. Describe the practice and the evidence supporting it.

· Explain why you think this intervention is appropriate for Jake.

· Then provide an explanation for the supervisor regarding issues related to implementation.

· Identify two factors that you believe are necessary for successful implementation of the evidence-based practice and explain why.

· Then, identify two factors that you believe may hinder implementation and explain how you might mitigate these factors.

Be sure to include APA citations and references.

Discussion2 : External Factors Impacting an Organization (Generating Support: EvidenceBased Practices)

Last week, you explored how systems theory and the ecological perspective emphasize the interaction between a human services organization and its environment. Any change in one part of the system effects change in another part of the system. Because organizations are not immune to their environment, local, national, and global events affect them.

Social workers in administrative roles must be able to identify and analyze the external factors that affect the function of the human services organizations for which they work. Though you may apply leadership and management skills as you assume an administrative position, you may also be able to repurpose many of the assessment skills you use in clinical practice for macro social work. Just as you gather information about a client and develop strategies for treatment at a micro level, so too, at a macro level, you gather and analyze information about a situation or program and identify appropriate strategies that will support positive organizational functioning.

For this Discussion, you address the Phoenix House case study in the Social Work Case Studies: Concentration Year text.

· Post an analysis of the supervisor’s role in the Phoenix House case study and identify leadership skills that might help the supervisor resolve the issue.

· Identify which aspect of this situation would be most challenging for you if you were the supervisor.

· Finally, explain how you would use leadership skills to proceed if you were the supervisor.

The Phoenix House Case Study:(Generating Support: EvidenceBased Practices)

I am the senior social worker at a program called Phoenix House. Phoenix House is an after-school program supporting at-risk middle school youth. It is funded in part by local school districts. Students are generally referred to Phoenix House by school administrators or parents.

I supervise a staff of four full-time social workers and two social work interns from a local university. Staff responsibilities generally include helping students with homework, individual and group counseling, field trips, and recreational games and activities.

Students are usually referred to Phoenix House when school administrators feel that the student is on the cusp of expulsion or long-term suspension from their school, usually due to disciplinary issues. Parents of students may also enroll their children in the Phoenix House program if they feel it will be beneficial. Parents are made aware of Phoenix House and its services through PTA meetings and via school administrators when a disciplinary incident takes place. Although it is free of charge and funded primarily through school district funds, parents are discouraged from using Phoenix House as an after-school or extracurricular activity for their children.

The average clients of Phoenix House are boys and girls between the ages of 11 and 14. The clients possess a range of presenting issues, mostly relating to inappropriate behavior. Some of the clients have been involved with the juvenile justice system in some form or fashion. Almost all of the clients have been suspended from their school at one point or another. Common problems with clients at Phoenix House include fighting, bullying, stealing, and vandalizing.

The staff I supervise have quite a bit of experience working with juveniles with behavioral issues. Some of them have worked in juvenile detention facilities and others have worked at court-mandated youth programs.

We have recently accepted a new client named Daniel. Daniel is a 13-year-old, Caucasian male. Daniel was enrolled by his mother when he was suspended from his school after a marijuana cigarette was found in his book bag by school security staff. It was the first time Daniel had been suspended from his school and the first time a disciplinary report had been filed on him.

Sarah, one of the social workers, asked to speak to me concerning Daniel. Sarah had spoken to Jim, one of our social work interns, about Daniel and the appropriateness of his presence at Phoenix House. Jim is concerned that Daniel is not a “good fit” at Phoenix House because he does not seem to match up with the character and attitudes of the other clients. Sarah shares Jim’s concern and is also concerned that the other clients may be a harmful influence to Daniel.

Sarah is Daniel’s counselor, as well, and has gotten permission from Daniel to share some of his statements from their counseling sessions. The statements indicate Daniel has no idea how the marijuana cigarette got into his book bag and that Daniel suspects it was put there by another student as a joke or as a means to get rid of it during bag searches. Sarah, who has years of experience working with at-risk youth, indicates that she believes Daniel. Daniel has also gone on to state that his mother has a tendency to overreact, and this may be the reason why she enrolled him in the Phoenix Houseprogram instead of listening to his explanations.

In response to Jim and Sarah’s concerns, I contacted Daniel’s mother, Lisa. Lisa listened to my concerns but did not feel that it would be right to remove him from the Phoenix House program. She said that even if he had done nothing wrong, Daniel could learn a valuable lesson about consequences by being in the Phoenix House program. I attempted to explain to Lisa that this is not really the purpose of the program and also indicated that Phoenix House is not meant to be a typical after-school or extracurricular program. Lisa retorted that it is her right to enroll her son in the program, and in her opinion, the end result of Daniel being in the program will be positive in nature.

I have shared this conversation with the staff at our weekly meetings. The staff seem convinced that Daniel will not have a positive experience at Phoenix House and feel he is being picked on and bullied by the other clients despite their efforts to prevent it. Some staff members have also pointed out that this may be an ethical issue because they feel the situation violates the social work value of “Do no harm.”

Revising Writing: Structure & Transitions

Revising Your Writing: Structure and Transitions

(Revising Writing: Structure & Transitions)

Structure refers to how you begin and conclude a paragraph, whereas transitions are the subtle ways you guide the reader, compare, and connect ideas. These concepts are represented in the “M” and “L” (main idea and lead-out) sections of the MEAL plan for paragraphs. They are also necessary in scholarly writing to ensure your reader’s engagement and interest.

This week’s Learning Resources provide a useful framework for better understanding ways to use structure and transitions in your writing to create flow between paragraphs and overall cohesion for your essay.

Project Deliverable6: Project Plan

Project Deliverable6: Final Project Plan

(Project Deliverable6: Project Plan)

Question description

This assignment consists of four (4) sections: a written project plan, a revised business requirements document, a project plan PowerPoint presentation, and the finalized project plan. You must submit the four (4) sections as separate files for the completion of this assignment. Label each file name according to the section of the assignment it is written for. Additionally, you may create and / or assume all necessary assumptions needed for the completion of this assignment.

While taking all business and project parameters into consideration, make quality assumptions to support the following requirements.

Section 1: Written Project Plan

You are now in the final stage of the project plan development. All previous documentation should be combined into one (1) document that will serve as the statement of work for the project. Your goal is to have the project approved by the executive team. The project plan should be very detailed, which is appropriate to accomplish the monumental task of implementation; however, the executive team is only interested in a thirty (30) minute summation. Therefore, you also must create a compelling executive summary that is supported by your detail that convinces the executive team that it should move forward with your solution.

Develop a thirty to forty (30-40) page project plan in which you:

  • Write a five to ten (5-10) page executive summary in which you provide a high-level technical overview of your project where you address the following:
  1. Describe the scope of the project and control measures.
  2. Describe the goals and objectives of the project.
  3. Give a detailed, realistically estimated cost analysis of the entire project, including technical resources (human capital) that may be needed to complete the project.
  4. Relate the value of the project plan solution to the competitive advantage that information technology will afford the organization.
  5. Provide all aspects of the information technology implementation into the project plan.
  6. Recommend solution providers who can assist with development and implementation. Include a cost analysis of at least three (3) providers.
  • Combine all previous documentation for Project Deliverables 1-5 in which you:
  1. Provide all aspects of the information technology implementation into the project plan.
  2. Revise the documentation based on feedback from the earlier evaluation of the deliverable.
  • Use at least five (5) quality resources in this assignment. Note: Wikipedia and similar Websites do not qualify as quality resources.

Your assignment must follow these formatting requirements:

  • Be typed, double spaced, using Times New Roman font (size 12), with one-inch margins on all sides; citations and references must follow APA or school-specific format. Check with your professor for any additional instructions.
  • Include a cover page containing the title of the assignment, the student’s name, the professor’s name, the course title, and the date. The cover page and the reference page are not included in the required assignment page length.
  • Include charts or diagrams created in MS Visio and MS Project as appendix of the Word document. Make reference of these files in the body of the Word document.

Section 2: Revised Business Requirements Document

  • Document all revisions made to the written project plan in the Document Control section of the business requirements document from Project Deliverable 2: Business Requirements. Note: This documentation must outline the revisions made to the previous deliverables required in Section 1: Written Project Plan.

Section 3: Project Plan PowerPoint Presentation

  • Additional to your detailed executive summary you must present your findings to the executive team and the venture capital group that along with the executive summary will convince the group that your solution is optimal.
  • Create a ten to fifteen (10-15) slide PowerPoint presentation in which you:
  1. Illustrate the concepts from the executive summary in Section 1 of this assignment.
  2. Create bulleted speaking notes for your presentation to the executive board in the Notes section of the PowerPoint. Note: You may create or assume any fictitious names, data, or scenarios that have not been established in this assignment for a realistic flow of communication.
  3. Use a professional technically written style to graphically convey the information.
