    Our text tells us, “Self-regulation refers to the self’s capacity to alter its own responses. It is quite similar to the everyday term “self-control” (pg. 131). Self-regulation enables people to be flexible, to adapt themselves to many different circumstances, rules, and demands. It enables people to “live together and get along much better” (pg. 132).
    Baumeister points out that there are three important “components” to remember in order to successfully self-regulate: 1) standards, 2) monitoring, and 3) strength or capacity to change.

For the Paper portion, you must write a 700- to 1,050-word paper in which you create a program to improve the relationship between two groups. Examples include between police and a community, managers and subordinates, the city council committee and a special interest group, and unions and management. Be specific in identifying what community, company, or organization you are writing about.

The paper must cover the Nature of the Conflict and fully discuss the following key elements:

  • Describe the context of the conflict. What kind of community or organization is this? Who are the stakeholders in the outcome of the conflict?
  • Identify the overt and covert issues presenting both sides.
  • Describe the effect the conflict has on the organization within which it exists and, if applicable, the surrounding community.
  • Identify attribution errors and how they will be addressed in the program. This includes dispositional and situational attributions.
  • Analyze the dynamics within each group and between groups. Who are the leaders? Does anyone stall or undermine the group? Is there a relationship between two subgroups?

The Program Design is part of your paper portion for this assignment. Be sure to include the following for your paper portion:

  • Describe the central strategy you will use to resolve or diminish the conflict.
