Respond to at least two colleagues who identified a different case and provide feedback on the client’s stage of development. Identify another area that should be addressed, based on developmental stage.

Support your responses with specific references to this week’s resources. Be sure to provide full APA citations for your references.

I will send other post due this Thursday once someone else posts

Response to Mary

In the assessment of Brady and whether he has mastered the stage of identity within Eriksons fifth psychosocial development are somewhat complex. Brady has suffered an extreme loss, that of his mother. Brady’s father has also suffered this loss and is having an overwhelming hard time to understand his son Brady (Plummer, Makris, & Brocksen, 2014). Brady seems to be handling some of his grief by acting out, but has also lost the attachment of his father and in turn, has gained fear. Brady is experiencing below average intelligence and emotional functioning (Plummer, Makris, & Brocksen, 2014). Brady’s father, Steve, has also portrayed similar characteristics and becomes frustrated quickly and angry with Brady.

According to author Berk, she states that “Adolescent identity formation begins a lifelong, dynamic process in which a change in either the individual or the context opens up the possibility of reformulating identity (Kunnen & Bosma, 2003). A wide variety of factors influence identity development (Berk, 2013).

Within Erikson’s stages of development, the identity versus role confusion starts between the ages of twelve and eighteen years of age. Adolescence in this stage are yearning for a sense of self and personal identity through personal values and goals (McLeod, 2018).

Brady has not yet achieved this “personal goal or value” in a sense to secure it as a personal identity yet. Brady is still struggling with other factors that have contributed to his frustration and lack of motivation. I would use the strength’s based approach with Brady and draw up a eco-map to better learn about his interest and dislikes. I would like to learn more about his relationships with family members, friends and his hobby life. From there we would build upon his interests and identify strength’s. I would then help him set goals for what interest him or what he feels good about involving himself in. We would also work on better, healthy relationships with his father.

According to author Berk, she explains that teenagers identity is enhanced when families serve as a “secure base” (Berk, 2013). It is when the adolescent has this secure base that they will be better at widening their horizons and will have opportunity to voice their opinions (Berk, 2013).
