Question description

Akron Childrens Hospital, children battling cancer/Leukemia. Cited from your point of view.

All students, both residential and online, lead busy lives—full of work and family obligations. The Service Learning Project has been required in the Signature Series since the year 2000. Previous students have found it a focal point of the course and one of the most significant things they did the whole term. The Service Learning Project is the major requirement for one of the three courses in the Signature Series, LA 420 Freedom and Responsibility, and the accomplishing of the project and writing about it seem a fair requirement for the earning of nearly three hours of course credit. The Service Learning Project is, ultimately, an assignment in the course. If this assignment did not exist, another assignment, equally tasking in terms of time and energy, would.

The Ten Entries of the Service Learning Project Report:

Note: These entries will be combined in a single document and turned in during Week 11.None will be turned in before.

Entry 1: Write an entry of 400 words minimum on why you chose your project. Discuss the life or work experiences that may have influenced your selection, including whether these experiences were positive or negative. Consider how issues of community, government or individual responsibility, leadership, productivity, problem solving, work ethic, and/or ambition might have affected your project selection. Most importantly, explain why your project is important to you, as well as to the larger community. Label this entry “Selection of the Service Learning Project.”

Entry 2: Write an entry of 400 words minimum explaining how your project relates to two of the course objectives, Objective 12 and one or two others between 1 and 11 (do not choose objective 13). See the list of course objectives in the Introduction Above. Be sure to explain why you think these objectives are important. Label this entry “Service Learning Project Objective.”

Note: The purpose of this entry is not to tell what you think the objective of your Service Learning Project was; rather, it is, as stated above, to relate your project to specified course objectives.

Entries 3-9: Narrate your experiences on the project each week for seven weeks—unless you combine entries, which is allowed, as long as they meet the minimum word count requirement. Integrate brief references wherever possible to the six values studied in Week 1. Be sure to relate your project experiences briefly to specific ideas in each of the Week 11 readings. Ideally, you will synthesize ideas from these readings in entries 3-7; however, you may also do so in entries 1, 2, and 8. You may also briefly reference ideas from earlier weeks in the course, as well as up to four additional sources you have found in your own research.

A minimum of 500 words must be written each week.

Entries should simply be labeled with the appropriate entry number(s), for example, Entry 3, Entry 4, Entries 5-6, Entries 5-8, and so on.

Entry 10: For the concluding entry of 400 words, labeled ”Conclusions,” summarize your project, its relation to the course themes and readings, and your feelings about your project experiences.

Health & Medicine Homework

Topic 1: Reflection, Health & Medicine Homework

(Health & Medicine Homework)

Question description

Think back upon your first topic question in Unit 1 and the four assignments you completed in this course. What do you believe about the influences of theory on nursing practice? What value do you place on using a model for practice as an advanced practice registered nurse? How has your philosophy of advanced practice nursing changed over the last nine weeks? Question should be 3-4 paragraphs and have 3 references please. (I attached the 3 papers I did for the class)

This is my topic 1 answer:

“A philosophy of science is a perspective-a lens, a way one views the world , and in the case of advance practice nurses, the viewpoint the nurse acts from in every encounter with a patient, family or group” (Butts & Rich, 2015, p.3). It is the responsibility of nurses to be able to view science from various perspectives, including scientist, providers, patients, family and the society in which they live (Butts & Rich, 2015, p.11).

As a nurse working in a large teaching institution, I have had the opportunity to work with many novice and quite experienced nurses. I observe them and reflect on myself as a somewhat seasoned nurse. There are many nurses that I work with that are from different countries, religious backgrounds and hold different value systems. As a Christian, Ghanaian nurse, at times I have to really evaluate situation without bias and understand what the patient, co-worker or family member needs from me as a nurse. An interesting article I read published on nurseinteruppted.com says it best, “we walk alongside the patient as they continue to interact with and “within” their environment (hospital or home, young body or old body, and spiritual realms) and we enhance their ability to interact with it “better” (Nurseinterupted, 2012).

Two years ago my sister passed away from a rare condition and I was no longer the nurse, I was the concerned family member. It really put things in perspective for me and I realized how vulnerable we all are when we are ill or caring for our sick family members. I observed all the nurses that cared for her and saw first-hand how important empathy and compassion from nursing can improve the patient’s outcome. “As patient advocates, APNs should identify patient preferences in an emphatic and non-paternalistic fashion in order to navigate, coordinate and facilitate multi-disciplinary and patient-centered treatment plans” (Guia-Rayos, 2014).

Question description

Bringing It All Together

This Assignment addresses this course outcome:

MN502-4: Develop a philosophy that supports advanced nursing practice reflecting the values, beliefs, and cultural competencies relative to nursing practice, science, and theory.

Now that you have spent the last 8 weeks discussing theory development and exploring models and philosophies that guide advance practice nursing, it is time for you to put it all together. In this Assignment, you will create a presentation using any form of presentation software (e.g., PowerPoint®, Prezi™, Movenote™, Powtoons™, Slidedog™, and so on). Your presentation should bring together the theory that best fits your concept of advance practice nursing, the model that you will use to translate this into practice, and your final philosophy of advance practice nursing related to your role after graduation.

Please remember that your presentation should contain slides that have bullet points. The bullets should number no more than four to six per slide. The bullet point is not written as a complete sentence. It contains key words. You, as the presenter will explain in depth what each bullet point means in the audio portion of the presentation. Slides may contain graphics, but should be uncluttered. Background and font colors should be of sufficient contrast to make reading them easy on the eyes. Attention to colors should be paid so that a person who is colorblind can easily read the presentation.

Assignment DetailsThe presentation should consist of a series of slides that include:

  • Title Slide: A title slide that identifies the title of the presentation and name of the student.
  • Introduction Slide: An introduction slide that includes brief information about you and your program track. The slide should also explain to the audience the purpose of the presentation.
  • Model Slides: The third and fourth slides will address your chosen model. The bullet points should consist of the specific characteristics of the model. You will need at least one citation that identifies where the model came from. Your audio will expound upon the model and what the characteristics mean. The fourth slide should include why you chose the model and how you will apply it in practice.
  • Theory Slides: The next three slides will focus on your chosen theory. The first slide should present your theory and why you chose it. The next slide would present the key concepts of the theory and how it has been used to date in past research no older than 5 years ago. The third slide will discuss how you will use this theory in practice as an advance practice nurse upon graduation.
  • Philosophy Slide: The next area will consist of one slide that presents your philosophy of advance practice nursing in the post-graduate role you will assume. The philosophy statement will consist of one to three sentences that distill the essence of what you believe advance practice nursing is and your conception of nursing as a profession. It is written in the first person and present tense. It is a personal statement of your beliefs about the profession of nursing. This should present guiding statements for your future practice in the advanced practice role.An example of a philosophy statement might read this way:Advanced practice nursing takes the art and science of nursing to a level of “other” and “self” interacting together to reach a state of optimal wellness guided with compassion and love for the culture of the “other.”
  • Graphical Slide: The next-to-last slide will be a graphical representation of how the model, theory, and your philosophy fit together.
  • Conclusion Slide: The last slide will be a conclusion that brings together everything you have presented. It is not a summary that just reiterates what you presented. It is a judgment about what you presented and bring the audience home, ending the presentation on a positive note about the future.

You will need supporting citations for your theory and model slides, and possibly for your philosophy, as appropriate. You will include the citations where appropriate and your very last slide will be a reference slide.

The total slide count should not exceed 15 slides. This does not include the reference slide(s) or the title slide.
