Question description

Respond to these two discussions.

A) By Allyssa

The purpose of Evidence-based practice (EBP) is to improve quality of care and patient outcomes to reduce not just the costs of care across healthcare but also to provide better service for our patients and for the betterment of healthcare (Melnyk, 2015). Over the past 10 weeks, I have to be very honest, it was really an intense and very challenging one. Coming and graduating from a different country was one of the few barriers I encountered this semester. I took my last research subject almost 10 years ago now, and it was not really fun being blindsided on how to get through things, especially when the subject became so technical and I had to involve statistics in as well. I had to re-educate myself or at least I tried to really read articles and previous notes so I can move more forward each week. I also get anxious as weeks pass by because I know for myself that I can do better if I know the right tools, the right approach with the right guidance. It took me 4 weeks in class before I realized that I really need a refresher course since I started off wrong and my research question was not approved right away. Now I plan to enroll myself in an Excel short class because on the last week assignment it made me realize how important it is to know Excel. It’s a great tool, and I will be able to utilize it well enough in the position I currently hold, which is currently related to nursing leadership. I want to thank everyone, most especially Dr. Diana, for extending their patience when it comes to my posts.

I wish everyone Good luck and Congratulations in advance.

Reflecting on this class took me through a lot of thoughts. I was overwhelmed at the beginning and several times through the process I wasn’t sure what I had gotten myself into. A research project or paper is a multi-step process that needs lots of time to complete. Each week the information provided by Dr. Diana was informational, and the discussion questions helped me with the week assignments. Picking my topic was not difficult for me, patients present to the ER in pain all the time. I decided that picking a topic related closely to the field I work in now and may possibly work in the future would benefit my research project. Looking for literature was not my favorite part, but I will say that I enjoyed reading about my topic and the different studies that have already been completed. Evidence-based practice is the groundwork for nursing, and the more research that is completed, the better we can provide the most effective care and improve patient outcomes (Turner, 2017). There will always be ethical issues in nursing. Protecting our patients is a goal for all nurses. Providing the best care for any situation is also a priority. A difficult portion of the research process was the statistics. Picking a proper test and process to analyze the research data was difficult, to say the least. I am certain that I am more comfortable with nursing research now at the end of this course.

In my career as an ER nurse, there is no research being currently done in my department or at the facility where I work. I am hoping that once I complete this program I will be able to use the knowledge I gained from this nursing research class in my career as a nurse practitioner.

I love the nursing field for the fact that we can learn something new every day, we can care for our patients on their best or worst day, and nothing beats the feeling of caring for a patient and seeing what a difference you made in their lives or care.

Thank you, class, for your responses to my posts and questions. Thank you, Dr. Diana, for leading this research course and providing us with information to succeed.
