For this class discussion, I have chosen to do what kinds of licenses are there? There are more than one types of software licenses. We all know that we have some type of software licenses but some may not know what they do so here’s a list of a few, individual licenses, perpetual licenses, subscription license, freeware licenses, shareware licenses, OEM (original equipment manufacturer) and more. Each license has it’s on meaning and do different things such as for the freeware license you get it for free and you don’t have to pay for anything. For shareware license, you get a time period where you don’t have to pay for anything until that time period is up you have to pay the fee or stop using it. Another example is the OEM for this license it covers software for all standalone PC’s and notebooks. With the computer systems, they all have to be bundled with the software.

Do you have to re-license each time a client or system server is upgraded?
With a retail license you are able to use the license key to activate Windows after your client or system is upgraded several times (Huculak, 2018). An OEM license is only available for one use only (Huculak, 2018). You can use the command prompt in order to uninstall a license key with the slmgr.vbs /upk command in order to uninstall the current key (Course, n.d.). Then you can reinstall the license with the
slmgr.vbs /ipk #####‐#####‐#####‐#####‐#####
command on the new device in order to reactivate your license (Course, n.d. & Huculak, 2018).
