(Behavioral style/Leadership)

Question description

Part 1

  • In the early 20th century, rural areas of China experienced deplorable health conditions. Due to extreme poverty and lack of access to adequate medical care, nearly 80% of China’s population, the percentage living in rural areas, teetered on the verge of death. In an attempt to solve the public health crisis, the Chinese government commissioned doctors, known as “barefoot doctors.” These doctors used specific behaviors that connected to and were understood by residents in the community. With specific behaviors that shaped a style of leadership, these doctors educated rural residents on basic healthcare practices. Although “barefoot,” these doctors projected a wealth of knowledge, leading others to better health and a better way of life (Valentine, 2005).
  • Previous to the 1990s, an individual’s Intelligent Quotient (IQ) remained an unquestioned, central standard of learning. With a high IQ, it may be assumed an individual might be well-versed in knowledge in order to tackle any problem, making effective and efficient decisions. Yet, contemporary research also indicates that good problem-solving and quality decision making did not always stem from one’s IQ, but more importantly one’s Emotional Intelligence (EI). In fact, a variety of studies have shown that “emotional intelligence competencies account for anywhere from 24 to 69 percent of performance success” (Lynn, 2008).

For this paper, select an article depicting a behavioral perspective to public health leadership. Think about particular strengths and limitations of this perspective. Consider how this perspective relates to Trait Theory of leadership.

  • WRITE a brief explanation of the behavioral perspective reflected in the article you selected. Then explain the strengths and limitations of this perspective. Finally, explain how this perspective you selected relates to both Trait Theory and the Skills Approach.

For this PAPER, select a current event that relates to emotional intelligence and public health leadership. Consider whether emotional intelligence impacts public health leaders and event outcomes.

  • WRITE a brief description of the current event you selected. Then, describe emotional intelligence portrayed by leader(s) in the event. Finally, explain how emotional intelligence may have affected the final outcome of the event. Be specific.

Explain any insights you have gained about the relationship between emotional intelligence and effective leadership. Then explain how you might integrate those insights into your role as a current or future public health leader.

PART 2(Behavioral style/Leadership)

  • For this Project Assignment, think about common trends in public health leadership, or critical areas of need for leadership in the field. Prepare a literature review of scholarly articles related to your topic. This review should contain a minimum of 10 peer-reviewed or scholarly resources. Additionally, based on your conducted review of the current literature, create a problem statement that addresses identified gaps while incorporating implications for positive social change. Located within the Learning Resources for the week, you may find the information from Walden’s Online Writing Center helpful for your completion of the assignment.
  • It may appear as a hopeless cause to provide health programs in an area suffering severe health disasters and coping with internally displaced populations. For Htee Moo, cofounder of the Backpack Health Worker Team, hope was a driving force behind instituting more than 20 health clinics in Burma. With numerous health disasters, and countless human rights violations, there was no single, perfect style of healthcare leadership for this situation. Despite this challenge, Moo created the Backpack Health Team and various clinics throughout the country. Using a situational approach in public health leadership, Moo was able to provide primary health care services to more than 80,000 Burmese residents (Beyrer & Pizer, 2007). Though different situations exist among leaders, the skills and characteristics to adapt to particular situations are essential as a public health leader.
  • As pressures and demands for more standardized business structures fluctuate in society, leaders may experience challenges in developing consistent methods for solving public health problems. Though consistency may be necessary for enacting change, within many areas and localities, consistency may not be an option. As a result, a leader must be able to use a systems thinking approach to evaluate the best method for leadership contingent upon the circumstance.
  • This week’s self-assessment, located in your text, is a brief individual leadership assessment entitled, “Emotional Intelligence.” As mentioned in Week 5 of this course, understanding one’s emotional intelligence may increase a leader’s effectiveness in interacting with others to achieve organizational goals.
  • For this Project Assignment, think about common trends in public health leadership, or critical areas of need for leadership in the field.
  • Prepare a literature review of scholarly articles related to your topic in public health leadership. This review should contain a minimum of 10 peer-reviewed or scholarly resources.
  • Based on what you find in the current public health leadership literature, Create a problem statement, (Learn how to write a good one) It must addresses:
    • Identified gaps while incorporating implications for positive social change.
    • Located within the Learning Resources for the week, you may find the information from Walden’s Online Writing Center helpful for your completion of the assignment.

Organize the project in the following manner. Each section should be represented for a comprehensive overview

Literature Review and Problem Statement (5–7 pages):(Behavioral style/Leadership)

  • The Literature Review section should be written in the narrative form integrating concepts from the articles you find. The section should include:
  • A synthesis of a minimum of 10 peer-reviewed, scholarly resources that give the reader a good overview of the issue. The section should show the reader common trends in public health leadership, or critical areas of need for leadership in the field
  • A description of theoretical gaps in the research area – Based on the research you just did in leadership, what seems to be missing (Theoretical gaps)?
  • Problem Statement should include:
    • An explanation of the specific problem that addresses identified gaps within the literature – If you are not sure of what a problem statement should include look it up. I’ll be looking for good comprehensive statements
    • An explanation of how your problem statement incorporates implications for positive social change – As students at Walden, “We” are preparing to become agents of social change, based on your leadership topic, the research you just did and the gaps you found how would you be a social agent for change?

False Memories

False Memories

(False Memories)

The US legal system places a lot of importance on eyewitness memory. Most people would report that they can accurately convey what they saw in a particular situation. However, these ideas are not supported by research. Instead, research shows that memory is quite malleable and is affected by many factors. This research repeatedly demonstrates that people do not remember exactly what they experienced. This module’s experiment will show you firsthand how memory for events is not always one hundred percent accurate.

Access the CogLab demonstration False Memory. Follow the instructions to complete the demonstration to familiarize yourself with false memory. Then locate at least one research study from a peer-reviewed journal that examined how eyewitness memory can be affected by false memories.

Based on your research, respond to the following situation:

You are considered to be an expert in false memories, and a local district attorney has therefore requested your expertise on the following case:

On Tuesday, March 6, 2007, a bank was robbed in Slidell, LA. It was just after opening time, 9:04 a.m., and there were barely any customers, when a car arrived and parked in the side parking lot of the bank. Two men came out of the car and walked to the entrance. Both wore dark clothing. Upon entering the bank, they held out guns and asked for the manager. When the manager identified herself, the smaller of the two robbers ordered her to open the safe. Meanwhile, the other robber, a tall, and burley man, walked around holding his gun in his outstretched arm, and threatening the remaining employees and customers. The manager complied and the smaller robber collected all the money and valuables from the safe. After five minutes, the big robber asked if his companion was ready to go. When he was, the two ran back to their car, and drove away.

The district attorney has asked that you create a presentation about false memory and explain how it might influence this case. He asks that you specifically address the following:

  • Describe false memory and false memory experiments. Use the CogLab experiment to illustrate false memory experiments, special distracters, and normal distracters.
  • Describe at least one research study from a peer-reviewed journal that investigated how eyewitness memory can be affected by false memories.
  • Explain how false memory might influence this particular case. Use specifics from the description of the case, the CogLab experiment, and research to support your answer.
  • Using evidence from the case, the CogLab experiment, and outside research, justify why eyewitness testimonies should or should not carry weight in criminal proceedings.
  • Discuss any procedures which can increase or reduce the occurrence of false memories when reporting eyewitness events.

Remember, your presentation is designed to help the jury understand false memory and how it might influence the eyewitness testimony of this case. You will have ten minutes to present.

Since this is a legal case, you must include formally written slide notes (proper grammar, proper paragraphs, APA formatting, and academic tone) with research to support your claims. The presentation will be a legal document in this case, so make it worthy of being legally binding!

Develop an 5–6-slide presentation in PowerPoint format. Apply APA standards to citation of sources. Use the following file naming convention: LastnameFirstInitial_M3_A2.ppt.

Preparing For Informational Interview

Preparing For Informational Interview

(Preparing For Informational Interview)

An informational interview is a recommended tool for exploring career options. This assignment is designed to prepare you for an informational interview of a professional in the field of psychology. You will conduct this informational interview during Module 2. Here, in Module 1, you will create a script, design a list of questions, and identify the person you hope to interview. You also need to schedule the interview.

In M3 Assignment 2 LASA 1, you will submit a written account of the informational interview you conducted with the psychology professional.

You will ask the interviewee to describe the educational and training steps (the career paths) he or she took to reach the current position. You will also ask the interviewee to describe, in some detail, the job responsibilities associated with the position. The interview must be at least thirty minutes long. Ideally, it should be conducted in person. If that is not feasible, a phone interview is adequate.

For this assignment, do the following:

  • Begin to prepare for this informational interview by identifying the professional you plan to interview. Ideally, the professional should be engaged in a career that you hope to pursue. (You may want to identify a second candidate in case your initial choice is unable to complete the interview with you.) This professional may work in your local area, but that is not necessary. If you cannot identify a professional easily, ask your friends and family if they know anyone who works in the field of psychology. You may also want to phone your local community mental health center or social services agency to ask for names and contact information of potential professionals you could interview. Contact your facilitator for guidance if you have difficulty in identifying someone.
  • Provide the following identifying information about the individual you have selected:
    • The name
    • The job title (licensed psychologist, social worker, or case manager)
    • The level of education (a bachelor’s, master’s, or doctoral degree)
    • A description of job responsibilities or day-to-day tasks
    • The type of license, if applicable
    • The state of residence and practice
    • The e-mail address or phone number
  • Develop a list of at least fifteen questions to ask in your informational interview. Research possible questions to include using the Argosy University online library resources and the Internet. Refer to the “Job Resources” document to do an Internet search using the search terms “informational interview questions” in order to find suggested questions. Be sure to put them into your own words for the purpose of this assignment and to give credit to your source by using in-text citations and a reference list in APA format.
  • Ask the interviewee about his or her work, academic preparation, and advice. In addition, include the interviewee’s answers to questions on the following topics:
    • The experience, skills, and knowledge necessary for success in a career in psychology or in graduate school
    • Relevant professional organizations
    • His or her views on professional ethics and academic integrity
    • The role of psychological research in his or her work
    • His or her greatest challenges and rewards
    • His or her reasons for choosing the field
  • Develop a script (word-for-word written statement) that you will use during the warm-up (meet-and-greet) portion of the interview. What will you say to the interviewee when you meet him or her? What will you do? For example, will you shake the person’s hand and introduce yourself? Include small talk of a professional nature that will serve as an introduction and explanation of the purpose of the interview. Demonstrate in your script your ability to interact professionally and effectively in a professional environment.
  • This assignment is preparatory work for the interview to be conducted later in this course. Do not conduct the interview for this assignment.

Submission Details:

  • Write a 1–2-page paper in Microsoft Word format. Apply APA standards to cite sources. Use the following file-naming convention: M1_A3_Lastname_Firstname.doc.

Research Project-Career Investigation

Research Project-Career Investigation

(Research Project-Career Investigation)

Question description

RESEARCH PROJECT –Career Investigation (Social work/criminal justice)

Length: 12-16 pages.

Overview:

The remainder of the semester will focus on a major research project. This project will be broken up into parts to make it manageable and keep you on track.

Complete the assignment fully and follow all directions for page length requirement for each part of the project.

Assignment Description:

For this assignment, you will complete a major research project in five partsYou will investigate different aspects of your (future) career field, analyze the process of becoming a professional in that field, interview someone currently working in that field, keep a detailed annotated bibliography, and reflect on your research process.

Each part of the project will have specific guidelines for you to follow. Pay close attention to the guidelines for each specific part of the assignment.

Although you will complete this project in different parts—the final draft needs to combine all parts into a single document. Review the student samples for examples of what the finished product should look like.

Here are some general guidelines regarding your research:

  • You should synthesize information you learn during the research process.
  • Do not simply cut-and-paste a collage of source material—that does not demonstrate any critical thinking.
  • All sources should be discussed, properly integrated, and cited appropriately both in-text and in the annotated bibliography.
  • Do not use a quote more than two lines in length.
  • The majority of the work should be written by you—that means you must have something to say (again—no collage of what others have said).
  • YOU MUST HAVE A MINIMUM OF 5 SOURCES (of which only 2 can be websites)

**READ and FOLLOW DIRECTIONS for each of the parts of the project listed below.**

Part 1: Research Report:   20%

Part 2: Process Analysis  20%

Part 3: Interview:     20%

Part 4: Annotated bibliography:     35%

Part 5: Reflection:       5%

Total:   100%

Below are the instructions for each part of the research project.

PART 1—Research Report 20%

Length: 2-4 pages

Instructions:

Part 1of this research project is a research report. Don’t let the name fool you—you are not simply reporting information—that does not require much critical thought!

Think of Part 1 as an essay in which you will have the dual purpose of both informing and arguing a position regarding your future career. You will provide some history and background information about the career field (the informative part) and argue who is the most significant person is in that field OR who you think is significant but does not receive enough recognition for their contributions to the field. You need to back up your claims with evidence to prove your points.

Remember that you will learn a lot through research and it is vitally important to keep track of your sources so that it is clear what information came from you and what came from a source. You have to figure out what you have to say about the information—form your own thoughts. You are NOT just reporting here—you must have something to say!

Part 1 criteria:

  • information on the history and background of the career field from its beginning (this should not take up more than 1 page of the 2 page minimum)
  • argue who is the most significant person is in that field OR who you think is significant but does not receive enough recognition for their contributions to the field
  • clearly distinguish the thoughts/ideas/words of others from your own by discussing and integrating sources appropriately
  • cite all sources correctly both in-text and in the annotated bibliography
  • follow an essay structure (introduction with thesis statement, body paragraphs, conclusion)
  • maintain a formal tone and use third person point of view only
  • avoid major grammatical or spelling mistakes

PART 2—Process Analysis 20%

Length: 3-5 pages(Research Project-Career Investigation)

Overview:

Process analysis is a technique that explains the steps or sequence involved in doing something which satisfies our need to learn as well as our curiosity about how the world works. There are two types of process analysis: directional and informational. Informational process analysis goes beyond recipe or formula to explain. Your purpose is not only to explain a process but also to convince the reader that the process you explain is the best way to do what you describe—this involves analysis and argument.

Instructions:

For Part 2, you will write an informational process analysis which should go beyond a simple “how to” in order to help your readers understand how something happens even though they won’t actually follow the steps outlined. You will have the dual purpose of analysis and argument. When analyzing the process, you also need to convince your audience that the process you describe is the best process to take to reach the goal of becoming a __________ in this particular career field.

You will write an informational process analysis explaining how a student of ___________ becomes a successful ______________.

For this essay, you should continue to develop a formal academic tone and use third person point of view to help establish that tone. All of your writing is based on your perspective but you must learn how to present your perspective without using “I” or “you” to do it.

Example of a thesis:

In order to become a successful radiology technician one should first complete the radiology program at North Central Texas College, then work for Advanced Medical Imaging of North Texas, and finally get promoted to Director of Operations.

*The thesis states the subject (steps to become a Rad Tech) and the point of view (specifics to be a successful one).

*Note that the thesis lists three major steps. Not every small step should be included in the thesis statement only the major points to be covered in the essay should be in the thesis.

This essay should be organized, logical, formal, and persuasive. No one wants to read an essay explaining how to be a mediocre nurse or teacher for example. Your essay should also persuade readers to follow your process to become a successful nurse or teacher (or whatever profession you’re discussing).

Part 2 Criteria:

  • Provide clear, logical, well organized informational process analysis
  • Process is explained and is convincing to the reader
  • Include a clear and focused thesis statement
  • Exhibit a formal academic tone—third person only
  • Meet the length requirement of 3-5 full pages
  • Format sources correctly both in text and in the annotated bibliography

PART 3—Interview 20%

Length: 2 ½ -4 pages

Instructions:(Research Project-Career Investigation)

For Part 3, you will interview someone currently working and/or teaching in the career field. You will need to develop at least 10 interview questions for them to answer. The questions should be thought provoking and interesting and require detailed answers. The person you interview should not be related to you.

For Part 3 you should include:

  • A brief one paragraph introduction of the person (their credentials, experience, demographics)
  • Your 10 (minimum) questions and the person’s answers in Q: A: format (see example)
  • INCLUDE CONTACT INFORMATION—PHONE OR EMAIL for the person being interviewed

Format Examplelo:

Your interview section should be formatted with the question and answer clearly marked like the example below.

Q1: When hanging a show in your gallery space, what is your process for deciding where and how to display the artwork?

A: First, I study all the pieces to determine if there are any complimentary themes, colors, and sizes. I have this

space projected in my mind and I play around with different combinations trying to visualize what will work best together. When you walk in the gallery, what will be the first thing someone sees? What will the focal piece of the show? I try to visualize these things first before I even start physically moving the art around.

PART 4—Annotated bibliography 35%

Length: 4-6 pages

Instructions:

For Part 4, you will submit a detailed annotated bibliography. The annotated bibliography is the works cited page for this project—it should include ALL sources used. Each source should have a proper MLA citation, a 4-6 sentence summary, and a 2-3 sentence evaluation of the source (how useful and/or credible the source is and how it will fit into your project).

This will require a significant amount of effort and is an integral part of the research process.

AS SOON AS YOU BEGIN YOUR RESEARCH, YOU SHOULD BEGIN THE ANNOTATED BIBIOGRAPHY. This is something you work on as you go to document your research process and help you to keep track of all your sources.

Part 4 should:

Group Crisis Intervention

Group Crisis Intervention

(Group Crisis Intervention)

Serving Multiple Constituencies

Due: End of Unit 9.

This assignment will walk you through the steps to create crisis response plans, which is a critical job skill for counselors of children and adolescents. Using the Group Crisis Intervention Template, you will:

  • Develop a one-time group crisis intervention plan that will help children or adolescents deal with the loss of classmates.
  • Develop a one-time group crisis intervention plan to assist their parents and other concerned community members.
  • For each intervention plan, describe how you will adapt these groups so that they are beneficial for individuals from different cultural backgrounds and are inclusive of individuals with exceptionalities.
  • Use the Group Crisis Intervention Template to complete this assignment. Follow the instructions for formatting your plan, as indicated in the template.

Counselors who work with children and adolescents rarely work only with children and adolescents! They are often asked to help with prevention efforts, consult with schools or other groups that serve children, educate parents and teachers about children’s mental health needs, and advocate for changes in communities and schools. Therefore, any counselor must understand how these multiple systems operate and must be knowledgeable about the programs and networks that support the mental health of diverse children and adolescents in the community.

For this assignment, you will describe how you would work with diverse individuals and two different constituencies by developing a group crisis intervention proposal for the Middle Valley Consortium. The intervention will include counseling components, education and prevention components, and follow-up plans to connect individuals to other programs or networks, if needed.

Your proposal is being requested because the community is still reeling from the shocking death of two middle school students, who overdosed on prescription drugs. Your proposal will include plans for holding two crisis intervention groups, one for the classmates of the deceased children and one for parents and community members who are upset by the event and concerned about the growing epidemic of prescription drug abuse among children and adolescents.

Your community is diverse, so your crisis groups will include members from several different racial and ethnic backgrounds. You also have been informed that there is one middle school girl who has a hearing impairment, as do her parents, and one middle school boy affected by a motor neuron disease resulting in orthopedic impairment; he requires a wheelchair. His father is also affected by this heritable disease and requires a wheelchair. Additionally, from previous experience in the school, you know that two of your group members are medicated for ADHD.

You will implement your crisis counseling groups adapting the Group Crisis Intervention plan offered in Counseling Children, pages 610–612; however, you will tailor your plan to meet the needs of your attendees. Your proposal will include the following:

Introduction to Group Crisis Intervention

Discuss why group crisis counseling is helpful for children and adolescents who experience crises and how this meets important mental health needs. Discuss why group crisis counseling is also helpful for parents, teachers, or community members who work with children, using a systems theory perspective.

Counseling Theory

Select a counseling theory that will guide your crisis interventions and state your rationale for using it for this purpose.

Skills Required in Diverse Groups

Discuss the counseling skills and techniques, based on your selected theory, which will be genuinely helpful to both groups. How will you build and maintain rapport throughout the group? How will you ascertain that you accurately hear and sensitively respond to the group’s emotions?

Sample Group Outlines—Counseling Phase

For each group, describe the Introductory Phase, Fact Phase, Feeling Phase, and Client’s Current Symptoms Phase with brief elaborations of what you as a counselor will do or say in each phase.

Teaching Phase

The teaching phase will differ for your middle school group and your concerned parents and community members group. In addition to teaching your groups about common responses to crises, including helpful and unhelpful responses, you will need to include a prevention component to briefly address substance addictions, including why and how they develop (etiology), how they can be prevented, and how to intervene when a peer (or a child or adolescent) is suspected of using drugs, and where group members can go for further information.

Summary Phase

The summary phase will help support group members going forward. Describe how you will help develop individual or group action plans. Describe how you will inform the group of several hypothetical school or community resources where they can turn for additional help. The resources should be somewhat different for the adolescent group and the parent and community members groups. Including resources that are available in your own community as part of your resources for your groups will help prepare you for your own future!

Assuring Cultural Appropriateness for Diverse Individuals

One responsibility of counselors is to use multicultural competencies to ensure that individuals from all background benefit from our services. In group settings, this can be even more challenging due to differences among the group members. Even group members from the same race have different levels of acculturation, and so might respond to counseling strategies differently. What will you do to remain alert and responsive to needs of the group? How might you need to modify your counseling skills, techniques, and the group crisis counseling intervention to make it culturally appropriate for diverse individuals?

Assuring Appropriateness for Individuals With Exceptionalities

All individuals have the right to receive mental health services that meet their needs. How will you adapt or modify your groups so that children and adults with unique exceptionalities or disabilities can benefit as involved members? Are there legal considerations that will inform your group crisis counseling plans?

Conclusion

Briefly describe what you have learned about how counselors—particularly counselors who serve children and adolescents—need skills to influence community systems, family systems, and school systems on behalf of their clients.

Requirements

  • Prepare your paper in accordance with APA style and formatting. It should be 6–8 pages long, not counting the references and title pages. No abstract is necessary.
  • Succinctly address key points in each section of your plan. Counselors must develop plans to share with other professional that are clear and concise.
  • Your paper should have at least 4 references, including the Counseling Children textbook.
  • Use the Group Crisis Intervention template provided in the Assignment Resources.

Impact of PPACA on Nursing

Impact of PPACA on Nursing

(Impact of PPACA on Nursing)

Please Answer According The Comments. Thanks. Remember 100 Words For Each. Reference Between 2013-2018.

Comment 1

The PPACA was aimed to improve the health care system, offering affordable health insurance to more Americans, expand the Medicaid program to cover all adults that live below the poverty level, and to support innovative medical care delivery methods designed to lower the costs of health care generally (Lampert, 2009). The PPACA mandates that everyone that is legal will have health coverage in the United States or a penalty will have to be paid at the end of the year. With the influx of people now receiving healthcare, they will be seeking medical attention where in the past they would not. The increase in people seeking medical attention will result in a needed increase in nurses to take care of these patients and more training to gain more expertise and skills to be able to manage the emerging needs and diseases.

A key nursing provision is the health care workforce loan repayment program (Section 5203). This section focuses more on children. It has a focus on pediatric medical or surgical and children mental and behavioral health care. The repayment program will offer psychiatric nurses, social workers, and professional/school counselors up $35,000 a year in loan repayments for their participation in an accredited pediatric specialty residency program.  A second key provision is public health workforce recruitment and retention programs (Section 5204).  This provision is aimed at eliminating the shortage of public health agencies. This provision has offered a one third repayment of loans for an exchange of a contract of employment acceptance with a public health agency for three years. This program is offered to eligible public health or health professions.

I know my nursing career will be affected by the provisions that were listed above along with all the other provisions listed in the PPACA. Offering loan repayments will give nurses the incentive to obtain higher degrees. Recruitment and retention would likely decrease the nurse shortage by new nurses coming in and showing loyalty to the season nurses.

Comment 2(Impact of PPACA on Nursing)

The effect of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) resonates profoundly in the U.S. healthcare environment and among the public. Two key provisions of the act include: 1) Guaranteed issue prohibits insurers from denying coverage to individuals due to pre-existing conditions; 2) Section 5204 Public health workforce recruitment and retention programs.

With the first requirement, health care setting experienced a rise in the number of new patients, as expected. Many of these patients were probably afraid or restricted from going to the hospital or seeking medical care due to the lack of healthcare coverage. The impact is that more people are seeking medical care. From my nursing practice, I observe some of these patients have chronic illnesses that have been neglected and thus require more care. Also, more patients come for medical services; emergency rooms fill with more patients. This increases patients’ population. In return, this affects nurse to patient ratios. Nurses have to care for more patients. They have to work extra time due to shortage of staff. The downsides is that nurse morale is low and the risks for medical errors are high.

The second nursing provision (Section 5204) retained refers to the established “Public Health Workforce Loan Repayment Program.” This provision gird to assure an adequate supply of public health professionals to eliminate workforce shortages in public health agencies. The positive impact of this provision is that government will repay up to “1/3 of loans incurred by a health professions student in exchange for an agreement to accept employment with a public health agency for at least three years” (CDC). Ultimately, this provision makes it easier to attract young people to the field of nursing. This will have a positive impact on the nursing shortage. It is an attract incentive for many current nurses to pursue their studies and opt for advanced degree in nursing. This is exactly what I am intended to do.

Comment 3(Impact of PPACA on Nursing)

Nice post! Some important aspects of the ACA, include the consumer assistance program, which is a program that helps people enroll in coverage as well as file complaints if a person is denied payment for any type of healthcare service. There are also preventative healthcare services if eligible, paid by insurance. Seniors that are on Medicare who are struggling with prescription costs, can find assistance with discounts and rebates as well. The ACA also offers more options when choosing insurance coverage. There is also a pre-existing condition insurance plan for people who may have a disability or chronic condition, that were previously denied coverage under regular insurance options. In addition, parents are able to cover their children under the age of twenty-six if they are unable to get insurance. The ACA has given people the ability to choose any doctor they wish to see, whether or not they are affiliated with a network or not. Additionally, the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) will be extended from 2015 through 2019, providing coverage to children in low-income families (KHN, 2018).
